I couldn't stand TW and his smugness, like some of you were in some special club that I wasn't part of.

I also found Ken Brucd underwhelming and didn't get all the weeping and wailing wwhen he left.

Each to their own.

catipuss · 30/03/2026 17:35

I have no idea, someone popping up from his past, do they have proof of anything? It's so easy to allege stuff once all evidence on one side or the other is gone

The question is did he do something to get sacked, not if you (or anyone else) liked him. I've never heard of him...

@untailored It’s possible he was dismissed without notice for gross misconduct, with no compensation. But for that there would first need to be an investigation followed by a disciplinary process and usually an appeal process, and there’s no way they could have fitted all that into three working days between coming off air and being let go.

An alternative explanation is that the deed was serious enough to count as gross misconduct but not serious enough to warrant suspension during the investigation, and the whole thing has been going on under total secrecy for weeks. Until Tuesday last week, when he might have been informed of the outcome of the disciplinary, suspended pending outcome of any appeal, and the appeals process was then squeezed into three working days (unusual but possible, if he ultimately decided not to appeal).
That scenario would be feasible if he’s done something like fiddling expenses, which doesn’t present a possible safeguarding risk to colleagues. However the BBC will have done incredibly well to keep the whole thing secret for so long, if that is the case.

I am not sure normal employment law applies for the types of contracts BBC talent has though ...

You've not heard of Scott Mills?

Don’t rise to it!

Yes. Because what he said was racist!

How? Explain please. Look up a transcript of what he said and pinpoint exactly where he refers to anyone's race or colour and then argues that they should not be allowed into the country (or to stay here once already arrived) on the basis of those characteristics. I've just watched it on youtube and let me save you the bother. There is absolutely nothing he said that comes even close to being arguably racist.

This makes me think of Cheryl and Liam wasn’t he 14 when she met him ?

Harry and Caroline was far more inappropriate

Same - he'd be so good

dapsnotplimsolls · 30/03/2026 18:13

I've been enjoying Gary Davies. Never been much of a fan of Mills, mostly tolerated him. I still miss Zoe.

You think the BBC would have sacked him without proof or without him admitting it? For they’re to be no suspension while an investigation happens, I would think he has admitted to it.

thinkingofachange · 30/03/2026 18:19

Scott and Chris on R1/Scott Mills daily were a part of my life and we still speak a lot of “Scott Mills language” was delighted to drive under Scott Mills bridge 🤣 etc…. but I just couldn’t get on with him on other shows/platforms. obviously I know nothing of if/what he’s done

Pancakeflipper · 30/03/2026 18:21

Gary Davis is the main supply teacher for Radio 2.
Please no to Ritchie. Irritating.

TBH I've always thought Scott Mills was quite anxious and struggles with MH. I'm a little concerned how he will get through this.

I'm certainly not saying he shouldn't have been sacked as I dont know what's gone on. But people aren't black and white, we are all grey - decent people do really crap stuff too.
Though - get back to me on this when the truth unravels.

storminabuttercup · 30/03/2026 17:19

I listen to the radio most of the day in between work calls.
today’s had a very weird vibe, the news landed in Vernons show, he probably knew at the start of his shift, none of the presenters have mentioned it apart from Jeremy who made some ref to it being breaking news and they would bring more as they had it.
Its been the first item on the news all day which I don’t get, its big but you know wars and stuff, but then maybe people would complain if it wasn’t

I thought the very same.. it’s like everyone is treading on eggshells know some sort of horrid secret and frightened to speak. Vernon wasn’t his usual self and Sara also seems off this evening. Whatever has happened has rocked the foundations at radio 2 🤨

Silverbirchleaf · 30/03/2026 12:30

I really lived Scott Mills and will miss him on the radio. He seemed to genuinely appreciate being on radio 2.

We did notice that Gary never revealed why Scott was off - holiday, illness etc.

wonder if they’ll move Greg James over, or Nic Grimshaw?

I can’t imagine Grimmy giving up 6Music for Radio 2!

OonaStubbs · 30/03/2026 18:35

Just another reason why the BBC should be shut down.

the80sweregreat · 30/03/2026 18:35

They do push the whole ‘ bbc radio 2 family ‘ don’t they so maybe the others are upset and don’t want to give too much away and feel awkward. It’s the main news on at six and they must be hearing rumors and things.

laundryhamper · 30/03/2026 18:37

@KidsDoBetter I don’t know whether SM is an employee or a contractor but even if he is the latter, there will still be very careful BBC policies and processes that have to be followed in situations like this. Eg contractors have the right not to be discriminated against (eg Forstater v CGD!) plus they can potentially sue for breach of contract. Also reputational damage to be considered if the public thinks the BBC has acted unfairly.

What a stupid thing to say!

All employers or shops, or businesses or organisations that have someone working for them who needs to leave after a misconduct issue or even worse a crime, should be shut down?

We wouldnt have an NHS, police service, social services, schools, prisons, judiciary, highways services, theatre industry, supermarkets, need I go on?

Yes, Ive never worked with someone who's been sacked or in trouble, it must be awful.
