What do you put in your mash potatoes?

I usually put a knob of butter but trying full fat mayo tonight due to accidentally opening two jars, so need using up. Wondering if I am missing other good alternatives?

Sometimes, I make sweet potato mash, the I put a little dark soya sauce and chopped green onions in the mix.

I can’t have dairy so I use vegan bouillon and a bit of parsley.

MaidOfSteel · 26/03/2026 21:12

Only milk!

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 26/03/2026 21:13

Double cream - absolute game changer!

Could you write that post in another language?

Probably, but I would almost certainly make mistakes… and be happy to be corrected by native speakers.

That is how you learn.

WilfredsPies · 26/03/2026 21:14

Nothing. I can’t taste any difference so it’s wasted calories.

I do like a tiny bit of whole grain mustard and a tiny bit of cheese in with it though.

treacledan71 · 26/03/2026 21:16

An egg if being good but butrer and milk if not!

AlwaysRightISwear · 26/03/2026 21:18

Butter. Lots and lots of butter.

My grandmother used milk.

canonlydoblue · 26/03/2026 21:18

An obscene amount of butter.

ItsNotUnusualToBe · 26/03/2026 21:24

Butter and milk but this next bit is IMPORTANT! After mashing, always beat well with a wooden spoon. Game changer.

TessSaysYes · 26/03/2026 21:25

Fried onions/tomatoes, grated cheddar.

wifty · 26/03/2026 21:26

butter, milk and sometimes an egg yolk! makes it super creamy…

edit: ooh! and sometimes a bit of dijon if i’m feeling fancy ;)

i actually use an electric handheld whisk to get super fluffy smooth potatoes too - delish!

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 26/03/2026 21:26

Butter, milk and a good spoonful of creamed horseradish

Not the point of this thread at all, but when did mashed potatoes become mash potatoes?

A raw egg - it gets cooked by the heat of the mash and makes it really smooth and soft mmm. Doesn’t taste eggy and you would never know it was there. Plus butter, milk and cream obv.

LydiaFunnyGums · 26/03/2026 21:30

sanityisamyth · 26/03/2026 20:42

chattyness · 26/03/2026 21:39

Melted butter and sometimes depending on what we're having with it some grated cheese, or very occasionally wholegrain mustard .
