What simple thing do you have to psych yourself up for?

For me it's going to the gym and putting on fake tan. Feel infinitely better after doing them, but for some reason both feel like insurmountable tasks until I get started.

What's yours?

Hate doing my nails. Brushing my teeth.
Hated it as a child… My DS hates it too!

RosesAndHellebores · 22/03/2026 21:52

Disposing of half a mouse and its entrails (cat kill).

Honestyboxy · 22/03/2026 21:54

Making a Superking bed. Food shopping, cleaning out the shower drain are definitely up there.
Mopping floors, cleaning toilets. Cleaning out the fridge. Vacuuming the car.

Ihad2Strokes · 22/03/2026 21:56

Since the stroke pretty much everything🙇🏻‍♀️it's all a negotiation with myself to do even the most simple/mundane things & doing them feels like I've done something huge, when I haven't. I miss my old life.

Fingalscave · 22/03/2026 21:56

Making phone calls. I'm OK when I get going but the thought of phoning someone makes me worried for ages beforehand. No idea why and I've always been like this. Luckily I communicate by messenger/WhatsApp/text with most people but I have an elderly relative who I can only speak to by phone and I have to psych myself up to ring her.

Grumplechops · 22/03/2026 21:59

Speaking to people on the phone, replying to text messages, ordering medication, booking appointments, washing floors, brushing teeth, taking make up off. Blimey, I could go on and on.

That's a good one. I'm okay in my personal life but HATE calling customers at work. I don't have to do it much anymore thankfully but when I do it takes a lot of mental preparation!

Washing my hair
Unloading the dishwasher
Putting petrol in the car

TheWeekOnTheDalymountSeat · 22/03/2026 22:01

Hoovering upstairs, cleaning the car, going to the tip - did all three today, feeling very proud 😆

skiprun · 22/03/2026 22:03

Everything that’s already been mentioned. And hanging up the washing

Undercovers · 22/03/2026 22:03

It's the opposite with the dishwasher for me, I have to trick myself into it by pretending I'm only unloading one cup while the kettle boils and keep going without thinking about it.

fivefoottwowitheyesofblue · 22/03/2026 22:04

Contacting my Mum.

TeaBiscuitsNaptime · 22/03/2026 22:04

Hoovering the stairs. I always have to psych myself up for that! And changing the bedsheets

Reginaphalangeeeee · 22/03/2026 22:07

Putting clean clothes away… I prefer to live out of the pop up wardrobe aka the laundry basket like I am camping it seems.

and worst urghhh getting out of bed!
