What simple thing do you have to psych yourself up for?

For me it's going to the gym and putting on fake tan. Feel infinitely better after doing them, but for some reason both feel like insurmountable tasks until I get started.

What's yours?

But a portable tyre inflator - game changer!

It's not the actual inflating , I do that when I get petrol but I need to wear gloves as the caps are so manky and not lose them !

Putting food shopping away.

By the time I’ve picked it off the shelf, put it in the trolley, unloaded it all at the checkout, put it all in bags as it gets scanned, loaded it into the car and unloaded it from the car, I’ve had enough of the bastard stuff.

I always used to put everything straight into bags and not load it back into the trolley at Aldi, as that meant another round of handling to put it into bags.

Labelledelune · 23/03/2026 11:16

Everything and anything and it’s getting worse.

Emeraldforest · 23/03/2026 20:37

The phone, especially if I need work done in the house etc. Its a real phobia.

PearlsTeapot · 23/03/2026 22:03

Showering. I just hate doing it. But feel better once I’ve done it. I’ve always been this way.

ThePoshUns · 23/03/2026 22:09

Speaking to people on the phone.

Dyeing my hair. It’s so easy and quick too

Going for a run. I get over this by either going first thing in the morning at the weekend, or by being dressed for it first thing and then going on my lunch break (wfh)

Putting a box dye on my hair. I’ve had a box sitting on the side for about 2 weeks and only just did it yesterday. I was practically half grey at this point. Managed to dye my face too which is nice and a reminder of why I hate doing it so much.

Putting clothes away. DH does all the laundry, all I have to do is put mine away but it is such a mammoth task and my wardrobes are already too full and it stresses me out.

Sometimes just having a shower. Especially at the weekend when I’ve been up for a bit before having to get ready.

Organising work on the house. We actually have a builder in now but took me 2 years to sort.

I am the same (replace run with other exercise).

Do you have ADHD? It’s why I struggle to make myself do this stuff. I have to leave the box dye out for two weeks to psyche myself up to doing it.

SkaterGrrrrl · 23/03/2026 22:18

Ringing my mum :/

Lavender14 · 23/03/2026 22:18

Washing my hair.

Delighted and love it when it's done. Absolutely despise the thought of it!!

bubbletubble · 23/03/2026 22:19

Emptying the dishwasher. Completely ridiculous as it takes less than 5 minutes but I absolutely can’t stand doing it and put it off for as long as I can 😂

Ordering/collecting medication (repeat prescriptions specifically). I have SUCH a block about it 🙈

Apologies if you've had this response already, but I signed up to an online pharmacy. My gp prescriptions get sent to them and they post it for free, I just pay for the prescription. It's so efficient. The other day my gp changed the dose of a medication, the pharmacy automatically filled it and posted that day, I had it a couple of days later.

ForPearlViper · 23/03/2026 22:38

Once my most hated job was washing up. I was thrilled to get a dishwasher. But now my most hated job is emptying the dishwasher.

daisydalrymple · 24/03/2026 09:19

@ForPearlViper we didn’t have dishwasher for years, and I had to listen to a colleague rant about her and her husband arguing about whose turn it was to empty the dishwasher. I used to be so envious she had that problem when I was washing everything up by hand.

now I have had a dishwasher for some time I totally get it 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣🤣🤣

Gizlotsmum · 24/03/2026 09:21

Stripping and making the beds, after yesterday walking the dogs ( really bad walk) , going to the gym, decorating

Getting my hair cut.
At the point when I become desperate it takes another week of trying to decide which salon to choose and which person to cut it. I get so anxious when someone else is combing through my wet hair because of the tugging. I don’t like sitting in front of big mirrors, I hate the drying process which feels so rough as my hair gets twirled around a brush and blasted with hot air. The music is usually too loud for me to chat and chatting is awkward. I wish I could be relaxed and chatty like every other woman seems to be. I dread this so much that I leave my hair for sometimes two years between cuts and I always get it cut to or above my shoulders. Updos don’t suit me so I have even more anxiety if trying to care for my hair when it is long. I’ve always cut inches off myself before going to a salon, to try and make it easier for them. I wish it didn’t feel so painful.

I absolutely hate getting my hair cut.

I dread it. Build myself up for it. Got just twice a year but then I do actually enjoy going in the end.

then I dread the next time lol

Ihad2Strokes · 22/03/2026 21:56

Since the stroke pretty much everything🙇🏻‍♀️it's all a negotiation with myself to do even the most simple/mundane things & doing them feels like I've done something huge, when I haven't. I miss my old life.

I can empathise - I've not had a stroke but I do have spinal stenosis in both my lower back and my entire neck and even doing simple household chores which I used to get done without a second thought, now take me hours and I have to take strong pain relief beforehand to let it kick in enough to reduce the chronic pain and afterwards I need more.

the80sweregreat · 24/03/2026 18:02

Exercise
washing and trying to dry my hair which takes a while as it’s so thick and still looks a mess afterwards.
Mopping the floors.
Sorting out the washing.

TheTortiePuffinNeedsHerBreakfast · 24/03/2026 18:05

Deep cleaning the kitchen cupboards. It's such a chore but I love the results afterwards.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 24/03/2026 18:07

Peeling potatoes. I really dislike doing it.
