I’m kind of ok with sending defensive stuff to shoot down missiles/drones to our gulf partners. I’d rather it wasn’t necessary but mostly they didn’t start this war.

I’d prefer if we closed our airspace to US bombers if we are focusing on something.

It would be criminally negligent if UK was not trying to quietly engage with Iran diplomatically to it's best interests.

To jaw jaw is better than to war war.

As someone who is not in hock to the coven that is US politics I would happily agree with Iran not to attack or not to assist an attack in exchange for securing some nice Euro priced oil.

Hopefully goodish relations with Pakistan will stand us in good stead.

Of course Iran might demand an explicit renunciation of the UK-US alliance ....

If all of this can be done in concert with other (EU ?) nations, so much the better.

Helping with defence is ok but my problem is mission creep.

Well of course denial of use of bases in the UK for bombing operations was the UK PMs initial stance, then there was a U turn to allow them to be used for (to paraphrase) bombing for defensive purposes.

Not sure the PM would dare perform a U turn again on their use.

I hear they've placed massive orders for The Art of the Deal and Mein Kampf to pack the shelves.

Maybe he should get a copy of "The Art of War"

Absolutely. Every time I see Trump post about this my first thought is it’s US and Israeli boats that are definitely not allowed through. Our best way of getting boats through is negotiating with Iran) via Pakistan) and not through joining Trump in whatever stupid idea he has next.

I sincerely hope someone is doing that. Preferably before we run out of jet fuel.

SerendipityJane · 31/03/2026 17:54

Trump telling the world America has plenty of oil has started some Americans asking "Why is gas so fucking expensive then ?"

I hope the UK follows the lead of Spain, Italy, and France on the question of air-space.

I hope the UK closes air space to members of the UK Royal Family. 😉

Anyone know how easy it is for refineries producing domestic kerosene to switch to producing jet fuel?

Poor King Charles doesn't get a pass from being UK tribute to Trump. Maybe Queen Camilla might be willing to write him an excuse note.

logicisall · 31/03/2026 18:06

Refineries can convert to producing jet fuel by modifying their hydrotreating and separation processes, but it's not a simple switch. The process involves increasing kerosene yield and improving product properties through steps like hydrocracking, which blends differently sourced kerosenes to meet jet fuel specifications.

Oooooh, I know a refinery with a hydro cracker plant...

The principle is the same.

However I'd wager in the name of cheap fuel maximum profit, refineries are hard engineered to a certain fraction. It would cost a lot to change.

Oh, please let someone advising the King/working at the Palace suggest he takes multiple uniforms and ALL of his medals and a Crown 🥇👑

As usual, experience was as correct as researching but quicker and didn't need the internet 😀

We need an industrial chemist for the details but I think at a basic level Kerosene is pretty much jet fuel (aka Jet A-1, Jet A or generically "Avtur").

ETA just seen your further comment, tks.

FWIW someone used "Avgas: on MN earlier as a shorthand in this context - that's definitely not jet fuel, that's fuel for piston engined aircraft.

If anyone was in any doubt about the orange loon's narcissism, telling others to sort out their own oil supplies just about proves it.

He started the argument (war), then twisted the narrative to say the oil shortage is their fault because they didn't side with him, and therefore it's their problem to sort out. Sick.
