US has destroyed only a third of Iran’s missiles, intelligence suggests.
Reuters report contradicts Trump’s claims that Tehran’s arsenal has been largely wiped out.

Didn’t Trump claim the Iranians hit that ship in his rambling speech last night? Clearly he’d forgotten the line was supposed to be a laundry fire.

For some reason the western media don’t seem to be keen on reporting this. Pentagon have denied it and say it definitely wasn’t hit. It was an electrical/mechanical fire in the laundry room.

Admittedly, I don’t know where you’d be running to to save your lives on a ship that had been hit 17 times.

Actually he may not have said that at all. I think someone’s spliced together a video of a comment he made about Venezuela.

Yeah. If I didn't want to die for Trump, that's where I would think about starting a fire. A lot of high current electrics to go wrong.

All I can say is that I'm glad that on this thread news like this can be posted without it descending into a toxic fight between opposing parties. (Yup, my eyes were opened today re a deleted Gaza thread.)

I would really like to know the behind the scenes of how Israel is able to kill targetted people so accurately. It's frightening how a mix of intelligence and technology can lead to deaths/murders with no thought to collateral damage and no apparent consequences to their actions.

Is Israel now a rogue state?

To clarify, I had heard that news earlier today on LBC and was curious there was no mention of it on this thread. Your above comment made me understand why that might be, @logicisall. This news struck me profoundly as I have many Lebanese friends who are either in Beirut at the moment, or whose family members are living there, some of whom are Christian, some of whom are not. But they are people, first and foremost and I am so tired of the ordinary people of Lebanon being subjected to this from all sides, whatever their cause or affiliation.

The lawsuit alleges BofA provided banking services to Epstein and his sex-trafficking operation, along with accounts used by associates including Ghislaine Maxwell.

I also wonder why, if they have that ability, they need to raise entire neighborhoods, hospitals and schools to the ground.

There seems to be two positions - one is You Cannot Hide (Hezbollah leadership and their radios come to mind), but the other is - we cannot find them and therefore have the need/right to flatten every body and every thing.

I just had a look - he’s been to Texas and to Michigan but really, very few states since taking office this time. Nothing past the Midwest, mostly just shuttling back and forth between Washington and Florida.
It was the whole farmers coming to him at the WH that got me thinking - like why wouldn’t he go out to e.g. Kansas or Idaho? Our survey says he’s actually never been to Idaho, even during his first term.
Oooo that would be a fun game - asking him to name all 50 states!

According to this map rollcall.com/factbase/trump/calendar/map/

there are twenty-eight American states Trump has not set foot in since he was sworn in this time round, a further nine in which has been for a single day, five he's visited for two days, two he's been in for five days, one for six, one for eight, one for nine, and one for sixteen.

But I must be miscounting, because that is only 48 states. And one of them, Puerto Rico, isn't a state really (he hasn't been there in this term). He's been in DC for 358 days, so the number of days since he was sworn in is right, though.

To be fair it's not either/or. Even before the current shit show that is Trump, America had a policy of taking out foreign enemies via drone strikes if needed. Including one strike on a wedding. If you identify the "bad guy" you then hit them when they are somewhere you know they will be, whether that's entering their girlfriend's appartment block or attending a funeral. And of course, the weapons you use to tale them out will take out everyone close by. But there's presumably some sort of calculation involved in how many innocent lives are worth saving to take out one bad person. You can see the argument that if the bad guy is a threat to Americans then you are killing maybe 5 innocent people in order to save 100 Americans.

This isn't something I approve of by the way. But Trump/Hegseth/Nettenyahu have such a careless view of human life, especially foreign human life, that there isn't any careful balancing at all. Its taking the template of assassination from the air and dialling it up to a 100. And then boasting about it (Hegseths post about a drone strike which killed 50 people was flag emoji, fire emoji, fist emoji). So if course America isn't going to be reigning Israel in. If they know a "target" is in am appartment block they will take out the appartment block. It's grotesque,, but there is a logic to it. If course its not the sort of logic that wins wars. Since generally if you kill one adversary and a load of children you create 10 new adversories.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 28/03/2026 20:28

The thing I find slightly strange is that Netanyahu was apparently chummy with Fred Trump originally, rather than Donald. Netanyahu is three years younger than Trump.

50 states (the 48 contiguous plus Alaska and Hawaii). Puerto Rico is a territory. DC is a stand alone 'federal district' belonging to no state.

Funny that a lot of the states he's ignored were midwest states that voted heavily for him.

DC, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa .... etc

Where the Republican war chant of " No taxation without representation" falls on deaf ears. Funny how that works. I heard it is because of the 2 senators per state thing. TBH, I don't know what the current "hand wave away" narrative from the repugs is today. Is it still " But they have the best of both worlds" ?

Just imagine it. A US senate that would never again be under repug control. At least not the repugs in their present form.

Did you see that the USS Tripoli, the amphibious assault ship that arrived there from the far east, is not actually an amphibious assault ship ? It's a helicopter landing ship, that can do F35 SVTOL operations.

It will eventually form part of an amphibious landing group, but the other ships that will have the well deck needed for landing craft are not built yet. This is the air support part. It can helicopter marines in, but it still can't launch the landing craft that are needed to consolidate a beachhead. The US can't get armour ashore.

We have to see what is on it's way from the US pacific coast.

It's another demonstration of how the most powerful navy in the world is still lacking. Or at least how it is lacking when it comes to doing a major unplanned operation.

The only thing I take issue with there is that it is the US under Trump’s dictatorship which has done this. The blame for this dangerous shambles should be squarely assigned to him and his “advisers”, not yer average US citizen.
