The US defence budget is already about 900 billion. If they left NATO I would expect that the balloon. As would all the other budgets.

And yet with the massive US budget this war has shown their military to have massive shortcomings. No Minesweepers for one. And a navy that can't escort tankers through a drone blizzard.

Is it even a joke ?

He's not the 'boss' of NATO. He can't just walk in and say "Right, this is the rule from now on". He can propose whatever he likes, but it still has to be agreed upon by the other NATO members.

It may be that earlier, when the US had sane a POTUS, that where the US led, the others followed because the US could be trusted to be considering the welfare of all the NATO countries. But Scrotus has alienated other NATO nations and they've learnt that the US can no longer be trusted AND that there may be 'options' other than NATO to consider.

Yes! I was reading about this and it needs sorting.

Gavin's 'termed out' and there isn't (at this point) one strong front-running Dem candidate to replace him, but six. The Repugs have two strong frontrunners, including that Sheriff in Riverside County who has stolen 'confiscated' the ballots from last year's (passed) ballot measure to redistrict parts of CA.

I think after the June primary Gavin will do his endorsement and things will become clearer. But as with 2020 and 2024 in the end it's all going to depend on Dem voter turnout.

Unless Iran confirms it, I would remain a little sceptical.

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) described the bombing as a "targeted strike" and claimed that Ali Shayeb was "a terrorist in the intelligence unit of Hezbollah’s Radwan Force".
It added: "Additionally, the terrorist engaged in incitement against IDF troops and Israeli civilians, using his position as a channel to disseminate Hezbollah propaganda materials."
