Saw an interesting snip of news. Many ( I have no idea what %) Chinese container ships are going from China around Africa, via the Med and the Suez, to Jeddah. Avoiding where the Houthi are.

My tin foil hat on, when the Houthi were attacking shipping before, China was going the long way then too. But Chinese tankers are using the gulf just now. I can only make 2 conclusions really. Either Iran has no real control over the Houthi, or the Houthi do not like China for some reason. I think more likely the latter. Because I don't think the Houthi like anyone very much. But it does indicate Iran does not have full control of them.

China have quietly bought up a lot of Africa.

Did anyone ever believe that ?

I never did.

Me neither but there's plenty that look across the pond and cite America has free speech unlike the UK.
Which is obviously a nonsense.

Ach. Freedom is always subjective.

I rate freedom of the press higher than individual freedom. Because if the individual is not allowed specific freedoms, then the press MUST be allowed to tell individuals of their limits of freedom, and more importantly they should be able to ask Government why.

As if it would make a ha'peth of difference.

Inside Trump's daily video montage briefing on the Iran war.
The montage, which typically runs for about two minutes, has raised concerns among some of the president’s allies that he may not be receiving the complete picture of the war.

Reminds me of DS watching films on the iPad - so he can more easily fast forward plot/dialogue and get to car chase/lightsabres. Even he had an attention span longer than 2 minutes.

More likely he doesn't have the mental capacity to understand what's being said as well as the attention span of a 2 year old.

If they want him to pay attention, they need to have WWE-style 'placard girls' holding up placards with the information in gold lettering and 'Fortunate Son' playing in the background. If they want him to comprehend, sorry but that ship has sailed.

Every time I see comments like this (with which I agree, by the way), I have a second thought, which is if that is the case, how in God’s name did he get to where he is today? Surely you need some mental capacity to be a sly, cunning, grifter? It can’t all be fuelled by hatred of “other”?

It's age-related incapacity. Like his father, he is becoming demented. Old Man Fred lasted at least eight years with Alzheimer's, and ultimately the brain capacity of a woodlouse.

Wiki offer
"In October 1991, Trump was diagnosed with "mild senile dementia", with his physician citing symptoms of "obvious memory decline in recent years" and "significant memory impairment". A few months later, another physician reported that Trump "did not know his birth date [or] age", amongst other difficulties. Mary L. Trump recounted that as her grandfather's dementia progressed, he failed to recognize people he had known for decades, including her and Donald. According to Fred III, his grandfather needed to be reminded why he was at Donald's 1993 wedding (to Maria Marples) despite being designated the best man. Donald claimed that he first noticed his father exhibit symptoms of Alzheimer's in the mid-1990s." He died in 1999.

I'd suggest that Donald Trump is mentally about where his father was in 1993, at the very best, and we just have to hope he gets fatal pneumonia sooner than his father did.

logicisall · 25/03/2026 15:39

My view.
Trump got where he is today based on an aggressive, vindictive and greedy personality. He is a manipulator of people, so probably understands how approach to get the results he wants; willing to take chances, and quick to litigate. I think that irl, he is probably quite charming when he wants and willing to flatter to get his way. The veneer of wealth and business helped in a 'fake it to make it' way. He knows how to play on the greed of others.

It still pisses me off that the Scottish Gov't overrode Aberdeen City Council's decision, and allowed him to build a golf course that damaged/obliterated, protected 'singing' sand dunes.
I was once in a farm shop cafe where Alex Salmond was eating. DH had to talk me down from wanting to confront him over his betrayal of the Grampian area.

China have quietly bought up a lot of Africa.

Not so quietly.

Bob Geldolf has been ringing that alarm for decades.

Maybe the Chinese are less likely to watch Africa starve ?

Spandauer · 25/03/2026 16:52

Erm...

Trump:
I am so proud of our ICE Patriots! They were unfairly maligned by the Lunatic Democrats for years, and now, at the Airports, in addition to what they are supposed to be doing, they are helping people with bags, even picking up and cleaning areas. They are so proud to be there! The fact is, they shouldn't have to do this, but they are rehabbing a fake image given to them by Radical Left Democrat politicians. The Public is loving ICE, so the Democrats, unwittingly, did us a favor — They are Great American Patriots, they just happen to have much larger, and harder, muscles than most — which is what they're supposed to have.
Thank you to ICE for the GREAT job you are doing. America very much appreciates it! President DONALD J. TRUMP

Arsehole. If Democrat politicians are “Radical Left”, then I’m Che Guevara. (Hint: I’m not.)

I've just read that Trump has taken out a pro-iranian insurgency base in Iraq which actually turned out to be a regular Iraqi military base. The iraqi government are absolutely livid and are planning retaliation.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 25/03/2026 17:05

I take it the photos are of "Great American Patriots, [who] just happen to have much larger, and harder, muscles than most" whose fathers have brought them along on one of those "take your child to work" days?

The Pentagon acknowledged for the first time on Thursday that combat helicopters had carried out strikes against pro-Iran armed groups in Iraq during the latest conflict with Iran. (Aljareeza)

The seven people dead after the US strike on a supposed pro-Iran group are in fact Iraqi military personnel. Others are injured.

This gives me heart that the UK will not be part of the madman's attacking solution to the SoH.

France’s military chief set to hold talks with other armies on Hormuz: Official
Fabien Mandon, the chief of the French Armed Forces, will hold a technical meeting via video conference “soon” with army chiefs from countries keen to play their role in restoring maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, according to a French military official speaking to the Reuters news agency.
The meeting would be unrelated to the United States approach to the issue and would remain in a framework of a defensive posture, the official said.
France has repeatedly said it would not take part in operations until hostilities had calmed in the region. (Al Jazeera)

There is a danger Trump will use any action as "proof" that he's ended the war.

That should really be "ended" too. But I don't have many quote symbols left in my computer.
