A random thought I will file for when next "debating" a MAGA.

They want small government and low tax, but it turns out most "capitalist" countries have significant state owned oil reserves. Japan is the latest to open theirs.

How do MAGA expect to pay for this with ultra low tax ? And are state owned reserves not socialist ?

logicisall · 25/03/2026 07:05

Drones and AI have changed modern warfare. Note also how NKorean soldiers have learned to fight when drones are used.

How will US boots on the ground cope and what tactics will Iran use to engage them at minimum cost to themselves? Which types of game strategy will be deployed?

Will the ordinary man in the street in the US accept the $$$$ being consumed when some gov't workers aren't being paid?

We live in interesting times.

No - but I’ve seen an Iran war film trailer - Judi dench as Starmer - it’s funny but don’t know how to link it.

BruceAndNosh · 25/03/2026 08:38

I suspect Team Trump are quietly asking for another vote on the war in Congress, with MAGA Mike tapping a couple of Repugs to cross the floor (under the bus!) and vote against so that Trump is blocked from further action. He would rage and fume but it would give him an off ramp.
Of course that won't stop Israel attacking

NFPorterkeeponkeepingonNsoul · 25/03/2026 08:41

Iranian military saying the US is negotiating with it's self..BBC news just now.

DuncinToffee · 25/03/2026 08:45

I don't really want to see/share the Iranian videos, their regime is nothing to laugh about.

And the US does not need any help in making them look like fools

Jeepers!! Full on lunacy(pun intended)🧑‍🚀

Justdancevance · 25/03/2026 09:21

I thought the video was interesting

I would guess pitched at maga younger men
Trump was going to war to hide the Epstein files
That he was being lead by others
That it would lead to American death

And had a very catchy ‘loser’ wormhole.

It wasn’t America is bad. It was very specifically saying Trump was bad and the reason for going to war was wrong

As Trump doesn’t have a message about why they went to war, this is far easier to believe fot a key Trump demographics who listen to Joe Rogan etc

whoTFismadelaine · 25/03/2026 09:23

Another worry with drones is that you can easily see how tempting it is for governments to get the student population employed. Multiple news stories show that people trained to use drones say it is similar to a computer game. Drone warfare not only can be done from home but it can be done from a teenagers bedroom without the slightest consideration for ethics.

CNN (TV) breaking news: 100 'rapid response' paratroopers from 82nd Airborne preparing to be deployed to Middle East.

CNN online article is paywalled for me. But found this article:

https://www.wvtm13.com/article/us-deploy-82nd-airborne-division-mideast/70838112

including;
"the soldiers of 82nd Airborne are trained to parachute into hostile or contested territory to secure key territory and airfields"

I have an uneasy feeling I'm watching the charge of the Light Brigade.

The lower-down military commanders may have a very good idea of how to do their jobs.

But the people at the top are off in fairy land. They've gone into the Iran war without a plan and without a clue about the completely foreseeable consequence of Iran closing the Hormuz Strait, and they've repeatedly said things to the effect that they believe "being successful at war" is something you have, not something you do. Fatal mistake. Literally fatal.

That is so good.

I’ve not heard of Emily Gregory, but I’m sure I will hear very dreadful things about her soon. And ditto for ‘loser’ republican Jon - but I’ll take the (hopefully) indisputable win on the voting figures as a good sign.

HAHAHAHA!! This is the district that Mar-A-Largo is in. This is a STATE legislative election so doesn't affect US Congress. But I still think it's great!

>95% of the vote is in.

It amazes me that the west seems to be so caught out by the drone developments. Back last century I worked in a university aeronautic engineering dept and drones were seen as the way forward for military use so why do we seem so surprised? We had a technology transfer company whose main focus was drones.

You underestimate the power greed of arms dealers. Margins on established proven tech will dwarf those on more risky newer developments.

Why do you think you are still using a 1980s operating system ?

So he will use it as proof that mail-in isn't trustworthy. If it was he would have won.

Remember somewhere on MN there is a poster who was convinced that it seemed so unfair to award the position to the person with most votes.

The American military tactics in particular are completely based on having air superiority and full air control when you send in ground troops. Because the American air force is stronger than any other countries they are used to being able to take our the enemies planes etc and control the sky's. And then you can set up military bases etc in the open (with McDonalds and fully equipped medical facilities and even gyms). It's completely different in Ukraine (for both sides) where soldiers on the front line have to account for constant danger from the sky.
Drones completely change the equation because you can take out all the airfields and still have attacks from above. Most of the losses in Afghanistan were from roadside bombs etc which were tragic but you could have a much higher death toll if cheap drones are in play. Plus the mental toll of not being safe even when on base. I don't know if the American public would be willing to accept the potential losses. Or maybe they would. Vietnam dragged on for years.

Spandauer · 25/03/2026 11:29

Away from Iran the criminality continues to be revealed.

I will be amazed if there's any accurate documentation kept by this 2nd Trump administration. We already know that the president's phone calls aren't properly transcribed (if at all) and presumably all his grifting evidence goes straight into the golden shredder under the Resolute Desk.

Trump appeared to have business motive for keeping classified documents, Jack Smith finds.
The special counsel’s team found Donald Trump held onto documents so secret only six people could legally review them — and believed his reason for doing so was personal financial gain.

Don't be silly. The line will be that it's only trustworthy for maga ballots. It's the others that are fraudulent, so we'll just discount them altogether.

Saw an interesting snip of news. Many ( I have no idea what %) Chinese container ships are going from China around Africa, via the Med and the Suez, to Jeddah. Avoiding where the Houthi are.

My tin foil hat on, when the Houthi were attacking shipping before, China was going the long way then too. But Chinese tankers are using the gulf just now. I can only make 2 conclusions really. Either Iran has no real control over the Houthi, or the Houthi do not like China for some reason. I think more likely the latter. Because I don't think the Houthi like anyone very much. But it does indicate Iran does not have full control of them.
