And 45 of those languages were Scottish dialects :-)

Mine is one of those 45, ye ken.

DD got in ipad thing from school, and part of it is English lessons with voice recognition, It don't recognize mine.

Voice recognition doesnt do the Aiberdeen accent no matter how posh you try to do it.

Preston isn't that far north from me, it's just a bit further than Haydock and I've been there loads of times...would they be ok to live in a shed and eat lawns..? 🐑

So the 400W one, over a year, can generate enough power to cover the laundry I've done today (washed and dried - it's pissing down and I have a messy bed wetter)

I imagine Saudi Arabia want a return on their investment in Trump & family - and not be left with Iran in charge of the strait.

I feel that if it was said then it would be more in the context of ‘Oi, you don’t just walk away and leave this mess that you made in my backyard - clear it up and do it now’ - like to a recalcitrant teen.

I have left relationships when it became clear that truth would be a rare and unstable commodity - it confuses my small brain! I just need to leave planet earth for a bit I guess, as it is all just blowing my mind that anything I hear about this war from one of the players, or supporting actors, or even onlooking countries, might just as well be a fantasy drama I’m listening to on the radio.

CNN (TV) breaking news: 100 'rapid response' paratroopers from 82nd Airborne preparing to be deployed to Middle East.

CNN online article is paywalled for me. But found this article:

https://www.wvtm13.com/article/us-deploy-82nd-airborne-division-mideast/70838112

including;
"the soldiers of 82nd Airborne are trained to parachute into hostile or contested territory to secure key territory and airfields"

AcrossthePond55 · 24/03/2026 23:27

Word to the wise; be sure you investigate the capacity of any 'portable' solar power system you buy. As an RV'er I can tell you that they are prone to exaggerate their abilities.

We bought one for our Trailer in case we went 'off grid'. It appeared to all intents and purposes to be enough to power the lights and the water pump for a decent amount of time. Nope. It trickle charged so took forever and never actually had the ability to do more than power 1 light OR the water pump for any decent length of time.

And be sure to research its abilities to charge if not in direct sunlight from dawn to dusk. Cloud cover and shade affected charging ability.

HAHAHAHA!! This is the district that Mar-A-Largo is in. This is a STATE legislative election so doesn't affect US Congress. But I still think it's great!

Hahaha, 'that poster' has just opened up a new 'other thread'. I'm now wondering if it's a Maga plant!

Had a look and I think I found it. Someone explaining how Trump is playing 5D chess, that he is somehow the greatest mind in the universe and that his methods and reasoning is beyond the comprehension of mere mortals. That one ?

Meanwhile, I saw a clip of him speaking, and I could not find a full quote so I transcribed it myself:

"They are gonna make a deal, they gonna make a deal. They done something yesterday and it was amazing actually, they gave us a present, and the present rerrived today and it was a very big present worth a tremendous amount money."

I have no idea what "rerrived" means. He was slurry. The clip I saw ended there, but per CNN, he continued :

"and I’m not going to tell you what the present is, but it was a very significant prize,”"

I notice MSM that I see have tidied up what he said a little and are not fully quoting him. The bit I transcribed above is from RTE. The following from CNN is sanitising him, but here it is. His words in bold:

The present, Trump said, was “oil and gas related.

It was related to the flow, to the Strait,” the president said, referring to the Strait of Hormuz, a critical oil thoroughfare that’s been effectively shut down.
He said the gift indicated that the Iranian negotiators talking with his administration were willing to follow through on their promises.

They gave it to us, and they said they were going to give it, so that meant one thing to me: we’re dealing with the right people,” Trump said, later adding, “They’re the only ones that could have done it.

And he described what’s happened in Iran as “regime change” for the country.
We have, really, regime change. You know, this is a change in the regime, because the leaders are all very different than the ones that we started off with that created all those problems,” he said.

MSM really do need to stop with this tidying up they do, and publish his lunatic ramblings in all their depressing and confusing glory. They are effectively doing half the posters work on the "other thread" for them.

RedTagAlan · 25/03/2026 02:13

Qatar took a hit, pretty bad hit. Qatar is very close. You know, they essentially can walk right over the border,” he added.

Drone thoughts again sorry.

Sky has a bit of a fluff piece about HMS Dragon, and what it can do. And yes, the type 45 destroyer is without doubt one of the best air defence destroyers in the world today.

This snip from Sky:

"He says the Sea Viper system on board the ship can engage eight targets in 10 seconds.
"If there are a range of ballistic missiles and drones or aircraft coming at it, it will be able to look around, work out which one was the most immediate threat, and then take out the immediate ones," he explains.
"It makes its own decisions and it's very good.
"So anything coming towards RAF Akrotiri from any direction should now be picked up by the system which Dragon has got on it.""

It really is fantastic but for the one obvious flaw. It only carries up to 48 sea vipers ( Source Royal navy site).

So yes, it can deal with practically anything thrown at it, so long as it's no more than 48 of them. I suspect that's why it has the RFA replenishment ship with it, to carry spare ammo.

But even then, each missile is between 1 and 2 million GBP. And I don't mention the cost because of the money, but because the cost is an indicator of complexity and time to manufacture/ manufacturing capacity. And yes, it has two Phalanx guns ( Gatlings), good for close in drones, but again, limited ammo. It's last line of defence is really a couple of GPMG. Cold war era manual machine guns.

I reckon these drones really have caught the west out. And the rest of the world too really when it comes to defence.

indeed
and if you consider roof solar, make surd to get a battery and not grid only. if there is s power outage you will have no energy if you only feed the grid.

countrygirl99 · 25/03/2026 06:01

It amazes me that the west seems to be so caught out by the drone developments. Back last century I worked in a university aeronautic engineering dept and drones were seen as the way forward for military use so why do we seem so surprised? We had a technology transfer company whose main focus was drones.

Ahh, mission creep.

We start off thinking about a small folding solar panel to put on the windowsill to keep a phone charged up, and we end up with an all singing all dancing off grid system that could power half the block through a nuclear winter.

I think this is why we ended up with a Navy we can't afford to use.

I am joking :-)

Yup. I think it changed when someone had the bright idea to sellotape a bit of TNT onto a DJI drone and crash it into things.

Remember back just to the start of Ukraine. They were first being used to drop hand grenades onto individual soldiers. So it was a system for re-use. It was the concept of mass produced single use drones that changed it I think.
