What song gets you every time

For me it’s Bryan Adams - “Heaven.” It has such a powerful tug on my heart and soul. It says something profound. It’s so intimate and musically simple but beautifully composed. It feels raw somehow.

I have always loved it, will always love it. Never get tired of listening to it and feel the same deep pulls of profound emotion when I hear it.

What song has this effect on you?

Yes, agree with A Different Corner, also Jesus to a Child, and You Have Been Loved, by George Michael. No singer has the emotional impact for me. What a voice, what a wonderful soul, what a loss.

💛

I've been waiting for you from Mamma Mia
Survive by Lewis Capaldi
Unchained Melody
See you again by Wiz Khalifa (this one really speaks to me after losing a close friend last year)
Everytime by Britney Spears
Dancing in Heaven
Heaven by DJ Sammy (slow version)

Yes to Survive by Lewis Capaldi, when this song came out I was going through a very tough time. The lyrics could have been written for me, and spurred me on every day.

Theme from Schindler's List.
The Drugs don't work. The Verve.
Too Much, Too little, Too Late, Johnny Mathis and Denice Williams. I came out of the Church after my friends funeral and this was playing on the car radio. My friend died following a battle with Cancer. " Too much , too little, too late, we knew it had to end. It's over..."
Don't laugh at me cos I'm a fool by Norman Wisdom. One of my late fathers favourites.

Can’t listen to theme from schindlers list 😢

Wake Me Up When September Ends - Green Day

No Need To Argue - The Cranberries

Silent Night - Sinead O'Connor

In The Ghetto - Dolly Parton

MissSkate · 15/03/2026 22:10

This is me by Keala Settle from the film The Greatest Showman always makes me teary. It was playing during an assembly that my child with additional needs was participating in (for the first time ever)

This song was being played on the radio alot when my friend died and it's really the first few lines of the song that speak to me the most.

'How long does it feel like the wounds finally starting to heal'.
As soon as the song starts I instantly feel a lump in my throat.

TruJay · 15/03/2026 22:16

Unchained melody - Righteous Brothers
Nothing compares - Sinead O’Connor
What a wonderful world - Louis Armstrong
Goodbye my lover - James Blunt
Wasn’t expecting that - Jamie Lawson

HoobleDooble · 15/03/2026 22:16

Forever Autumn. I could cry myself to powder form to this song.

clarabowlips · 15/03/2026 22:19

So many! But to echo a PP .... Adagio For Strings by S.Barber. No lyrics but there's a point in the music when it swells with emotion and I get teary.

CheeseWisely · 15/03/2026 22:20

How To Save A Life by The Fray always gets a lump in my throat, it reminds me of a time that I was very low.

The Way You Look Tonight always gets me too, but I’ve never been able to put a finger on a reason.

GoldenNuggets08 · 15/03/2026 22:21

See You Again by Wiz Khalifa came out the year I left college and I played it on repeat my entire journey home after I finished my last exam and cried my eyes out. Still get the sad pangs when I hear it now!

SerendipityCat · 15/03/2026 22:23

Gillian Welch - Tenessee

Such a dark and sexually-charged song, beautifully sung.

"Even so I try to be a good girl
It's only what I want that makes me weak
I had no desire to be a child of sin
Then you went and pressed your whiskers to my cheek..."

Makes me shiver (in a good way) every time.

Same, came to post this. I always think of my Sister and how desperate she was when she killed herself ❤️

Edited

I’m so sorry - This Woman’s Work is right after I’ll Stand by You (Pretenders) on my playlist for my sister who also ended her life. The morning after, I sat in my parents’ garden with Skeeter Davis’ The End of the World on repeat.
Makes Mother’s Day tough, eh? x

Sunshine on Leith by The Proclaimers.
Spiegel im Spiegel, which is an instrumental piece that is heartbreaking in its simplicity. I cannot listen to it because I remember it being played on the radio a few weeks after I’d lost a child.

Jellytotsapplepie · 15/03/2026 22:30

Definitely this women’s work 😢

UnderThePressure · 15/03/2026 22:30

The Eternal - Joy Division
Endsong - The Cure
Strangest Thing - The War on Drugs

suburburban · 15/03/2026 22:04

I know it’s controversial but

Two little boys with the battle scene

It’s a shame of the association but I feel the same about that song. It’s both the childhood memories of it, the tune and theme of futility of war.

Swissmeringue · 15/03/2026 22:36

Halo by Beyonce. It was played at the funeral of my friend who took her own life. It's been 12 years and I still can't listen to that song.

TreadingIn · 15/03/2026 22:37

Fast Car - Tracey Chapman. Just the sheer hopelessness of it.

HeathenPlayingHouse · 15/03/2026 22:37

Light by Sleeping at Last has me bawling every time I listen to it.

The word are everything that I’d ever want my kids to know how I feel about them.

Kickinthenostalgia · 15/03/2026 22:38

I’ve got a few that instantly give me the feels…
iris - the goo goo dolls
demons - imagine dragons
right here waiting for you - Richard Marx
here - Tom grennan
bring me back to life - evanescence
how do I say goodbye - dean lewis
stole -kelly rowland
hurt - Christina aguilera
mockingbird - Eminem

Omg yes No Need To Argue has me every time.

Acoustic version of Wings by Birdy, reminds me of the babies I lost.

Because you loved me - Celion Dion as my Nan chose it for my Grandad’s funeral because the words resonated with her for their relationship, married at 16 and never spent a day apart ☹️

Adele - When we were young; my Nan’s funeral song

Coldplay - Fix You as it reminds me of my grandparents battling cancer
