What song gets you every time

For me it’s Bryan Adams - “Heaven.” It has such a powerful tug on my heart and soul. It says something profound. It’s so intimate and musically simple but beautifully composed. It feels raw somehow.

I have always loved it, will always love it. Never get tired of listening to it and feel the same deep pulls of profound emotion when I hear it.

What song has this effect on you?

Sinead O’Connor - Troy
I can’t explain what it does to me, completely stops me in my tracks.

Brody77 · 15/03/2026 16:12

Winter by Tori Amos makes me cry like no other song… love to sing it but can’t before I am wracked by sobs

Goingbacktoit · 15/03/2026 16:14

Caledonia by Dolores Keane, we played it as my mums funeral so every time I hear it I remember being in the crematorium.

U2 - With or without you

Who Knew by Pink. Like many songs it depends on the context in which you listen to them, but for me this is a song that resonated with my daughter when her boyfriend of 3 years took his own life, she was 19 and he was 24. Makes me sad for what could have been.

This Woman's Work, Kate Bush

There are a few for me, but one that immediately comes to mind is Nimrod by Edgar Elgar. It's not a song, as in no lyrics, but the music moves me each and every time. It's played at Remembrance ceremonies. I can't cry on cue, but put an earpiece on me and play Nimrod, guaranteed I'll be in floods of tears.

Greenfingers37 · 15/03/2026 16:42

Tears in heaven, Eric Clapton.

StationJack · 15/03/2026 16:43

Creep - Radiohead

Nimrod by Edgar Elgar definitely reminds me of Remembrance.

Kristy, Are You Doing Okay? - The Offspring.

Slipping Through My Fingers, Abba.

Impossible to listen to without crying.

Hey Jude by The Beatles was a struggle for YEARS as it was played at my DB's friend's funeral. They were 17 when he died and it broke everyone's hearts, I couldn't listen to it without crying for years but cope better now.

tartyflette · 15/03/2026 16:59

I can’t listen to Tears in Heaven.
I lost a baby at birth. I think it would be the same for anyone who has ever lost a child. It may have helped him when he wrote it, though.

Slipping through my fingers for me too.

I remember going to see the mamma Mia film with my mum right before I left for university and we balled our eyes out together during that song. She died when I was 26 and I can’t even think of the song without crying.
