What song gets you every time

For me it’s Bryan Adams - “Heaven.” It has such a powerful tug on my heart and soul. It says something profound. It’s so intimate and musically simple but beautifully composed. It feels raw somehow.

I have always loved it, will always love it. Never get tired of listening to it and feel the same deep pulls of profound emotion when I hear it.

What song has this effect on you?

Everybody hurts by REM and Fields of gold by Sting.

Philandbill · 15/03/2026 21:46

Two thousand miles by The Pretenders.

Stigsmother · 15/03/2026 21:47

Another one for A Different Corner, and Moon River 😥

mumofoneAloneandwell · 15/03/2026 21:48

Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls
Say you wont let go by James Arthur
Wicked Games - the weeknd

Janeb1965 · 15/03/2026 21:50

Diamonds and Rust - Joan Baez. Sad and nostalgic for lost love.

Especially at the moment for the 1 who died 4 weeks ago, given that both of us would still call each other from time to time, even after 40 years. And me being very happily married, my ex being very respectful of that and my husband fully aware and fine with it. Love that had properly become deep and true friendship.

Rock and Roll I Gave You the Best Years of My Life by Kevin Johnson. I cry every time he says "she tried to help me realise I'd never be a star". It's all about unrealised dreams and well worth a listen if you've never heard it.

Fernticket · 15/03/2026 21:53

Theme from Schindler's List.
The Drugs don't work. The Verve.
Too Much, Too little, Too Late, Johnny Mathis and Denice Williams. I came out of the Church after my friends funeral and this was playing on the car radio. My friend died following a battle with Cancer. " Too much , too little, too late, we knew it had to end. It's over..."
Don't laugh at me cos I'm a fool by Norman Wisdom. One of my late fathers favourites.

A dragon lives forever, but not so little boys
Painted wings and giant's rings make way for other toys
One gray night it happened, Jackie Paper came no more
And Puff, that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar
His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain
Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane
Without his lifelong friend, Puff could not be brave
So Puff, that mighty dragon, sadly slipped into his cave
😢😢😢😢😢😢

Gordon lightfoot - i you could read my mind

Oh this gets me every time.
It reminds me of my dad 😢, I very rarely hear it but it was played on the radio on the day of his funeral - he was cremated with no one there 😭 (my mum's wishes)

Crystallllll · 15/03/2026 21:55

Such a powerful song @Pascha If you’re going through something now, use it to empower you, I know I did xx

Shufflebumnessie · 15/03/2026 21:58

Little wonders by Rob Thomas. I love it but every time I hear it, it never fails to bring up some very raw emotions.

Theseventhmagpie · 15/03/2026 22:01

Love Is Stronger Than Death
Heard it for the first time at a beautiful friend’s funeral who died far, far too young.

Roberta Flack - The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face

Joan Armatrading - The Weakness In Me

Sinéad O’Connor - Nothing Compares To You

😭😭😭

BlackCat14 · 15/03/2026 22:03

Adams Song- Blink 182

Always Be My Baby- Mariah. Well actually, I like the cover by 3Quency. My boyfriend played it on our way to hospital after my waters broke to calm me down, and I always think of that now

I know others have said this, but I agree with Slipping Through My Fingers- ABBA. Lucky to still have my mum but it makes me emotional thinking of her every time!

Honestyboxy · 15/03/2026 22:03

Fix You Coldplay

JuliettaCaeser · 15/03/2026 22:04

Britney Spears Lucky. It’s a daft song but my two would do endless dance routines to it and sing the lyrics slightly wrong - hearing it takes me immediately back to the pre school years. Both grown up now so is poignant for me. When it came on randomly I actually started crying.

augustusglupe · 15/03/2026 22:04

Forbidden Colours - David Sylvian
My Only Love - Roxy Music
Quite a few Motown songs & Gladys Knight songs get me because they remind me of my mum & dad.

suburburban · 15/03/2026 22:04

I know it’s controversial but

Two little boys with the battle scene

Edited

I just played the introduction to weakness in me and had to turn it off

my sister used to play that Roberta flack song over and over on vinyl when we were teenagers 🥲 that’s how I think of it

Honestyboxy · 15/03/2026 22:05

Yourinmyspot · 15/03/2026 21:44

Everybody hurts by REM and Fields of gold by Sting.

Yes Fields of Gold for me too.

ChocolateHobbit · 15/03/2026 22:05

I've been waiting for you from Mamma Mia
Survive by Lewis Capaldi
Unchained Melody
See you again by Wiz Khalifa (this one really speaks to me after losing a close friend last year)
Everytime by Britney Spears
Dancing in Heaven
Heaven by DJ Sammy (slow version)

Arran2024 · 15/03/2026 22:06

My daughter has a lot of additional needs. She is an adult now but can still have some outbursts - we can calm her by playing one of these songs, which get her crying every time:

Mandy by Barry Manilow
Knocking on Heaven's Door by Bob Dylan
You've Got a Friend by Carole King

It's not the lyrics, it's something in the music.
