It ain't nothing but a heart-breaker

Unless, of course, your name ends in Trump, when it ain't nothing but an opportunity to grift, deflect and destroy.

Meanwhile US citizens are in danger of losing their vote if this bill passes.

The Senate will take up a strict voter identification bill that President Trump has demanded Congress deliver him, and that he and his Republican allies groundlessly claim is needed to combat mass voter fraud by noncitizens.
Passed narrowly by the House last month, the legislation, which Republicans call the SAVE America Act, would normally seem to have little chance of enactment given near-solid Democratic opposition. That means it lacks the 60 votes required to move to a final vote.
But Mr. Trump has ratcheted up the pressure on Republicans to push ahead anyway, vowing that he would refuse to sign any other legislation until the bill was sent to his desk. He has called the measure his “No. 1 priority,” saying it would “guarantee the midterms” for his party.
“If you don’t get it — big trouble,” the president told Republicans last week.
...
Many eligible voters would not meet the requirements.
An estimated 9 percent of eligible voters, or 21.3 million Americans, either do not have documents that prove their citizenship, such as passports and birth certificates, or cannot retrieve them in a day or less, according to a study by the Center for Democracy and Civic Engagement at University of Maryland and the Brennan Center for Justice. And 45 states do not issue the kind of enhanced driver’s license indicating citizenship status that would be needed to verify voting eligibility.
Citing those limitations, Democrats and election experts say that many voters would be disenfranchised by the measure. They have also raised concerns that women who change their name upon marriage and lack documents reflecting their current surnames could find it more difficult to register to vote.
...
States would be required to submit their voter rolls to the Department of Homeland Security, to be cross-referenced with citizenship data and purged of those deemed ineligible to vote. And election workers who fail to properly verify an applicant’s eligibility to vote could face criminal penalties.

WTAF is wrong with these bastards? It's unreal. As if we're living in a bad dystopian novel. I didn't realise when I read Margaret Atwood's books when they were first published deacades ago, that she was even more prescient than George Orwell.

"Mr. Trump has ratcheted up the pressure on Republicans to push ahead anyway, vowing that he would refuse to sign any other legislation until the bill was sent to his desk."

And any bill sent to his desk and left unsigned by him passes into law after is it ten working days?

You got it.

CWOs receive commissions from the POTUS, just like commissioned officers. They take the same oath as commissioned officers. They are considered officers and are saluted by lower ranking personnel. The main difference is that they usually serve in 'technical' positions rather than 'command' positions.

Apologies. I never knew US CWO's got commissions. I am thinking UK ranks.

Has anyone compiled a timelapse of the amount of cold coverage in the WH ?

I just saw this on Sky, and I am rather amazed Churchill has not been "gold foiled" yet.

And what is it with the model planes ?

The husbad is aeronautically inclined, have asked his opinion as to what that model aircraft is and why it is not gold-plated. Will revert if his reply makes sense.

"Trump: US-UK relationship was 'always perfect until Keir came along'
Reporters have been asking Donald Trump about his relationship with Sir Keir Starmer, and the US president has used the opportunity to repeat his criticism of the prime minister.
He says the US has a "tremendous long-term relationship with the UK" that "should be the best".
Trump goes on to say it was "always the best until Keir came along".
"I like him, he's a nice man... he's a very nice man with a beautiful family, everything's perfect," he says.
"I just said 'you don't have to send me aircraft carriers, send me a couple of minesweepers, we don't need your aircraft carriers', but even the aircraft carriers, he would only send them after we essentially won.
"He's sending them when there are no planes left, when the missiles are down to 8%."
Trump also turns and points to a bust of former wartime prime minister Winston Churchill.
"Unfortunately Keir is not Winston Churchill," he adds."

Don't quote me, but there was a poll on sky earlier where UK support to Trumps war was about 17%, and support for Starmer on this about 59%.

Re the minesweepers. We don't have any. We have an experimental drone system that is in testing before the next design stage.

We do not have 2 carriers to send. Just one. The other is in "the garage", as is most of our navy.

The US also scrapped it's minesweepers last year, and it's two LCS vessels that are fitted with stopgap modules are in Malaysia.

Just throwing this in the pot without factchecking... Iran had minesweepers.. but Trump sunk them.

Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin defended Starmer to Trump. Said he's done a lot to repair the UK/Irish relationship.

I can image he is as angry as he’s ever been. That’s what happens when nobody, including your parents, ever say no or put boundaries in place or smooths everything over.

Admittedly, most of us learn this lesson as toddlers. It’s a bit trickier for the rest of us if the toddler in question is 80 and happens to be POTUS. The tantrums can be quite far reaching.

Could someone please remind me why this woman is not considered a reasonable candidate for President by the Democratic party? Aside from her being a young, intelligent, Hispanic, woman, and therefore not an old, demented, orange white man?

The alternative would be for Starmer to tell Trump he had sent some minesweepers and then never mention them again.

Joe Kent is a lunatic but has real political ambitions. He's trying to distance himself from this shitshow so he can ally with the Tucker Carlson/Megyn Kelly/Candace Owens/MTG tribe. Let's not fool ourselves that this is anything meaningful.

VERY valid point! He and JD are apparently playing from the same rulebook. Disavow just enough to appeal to the MAGAts who disapprove of the war, yet don't stray too far from the MAGA path.

Yeah. That's not gonna happen.

I watched an old WW2 film today. "Battlecry". Lots of ships, battleships, carriers and all that.

And I was thinking that even with the power of the US navy today it is no match in numbers with the "total war" scenario of that era. Trump does seem to be thinking in WW2 terms.

The Falklands was touch and go really. And I think that was at the very tail end of the post WW2 "numbers matter" thinking.

And now all of a sudden we are in the drone age. As Ukraine has shown us. But our navies are still in post USSR mode.

But Trump is still in "The sands of Iwo Jima", doing a John Wayne. Anything after that age, esp Vietnam, does not register with him at all. And how would Trump know about Vietnam.

HE WASN'T THERE.

Please ignore spelling mistakes as husbad is illiterate (ESL).
I am perplexed as to why the orange turd would have that very model on display?

A seconds glance at a map shows that the concept of "invading Iran" is best with difficulties. It is bordered by countries that are either hostile to the US, or that are simply unable to act as the bridgehead for the 2 million or so men it would take.

For what should be obvious reasons, a naval assault - no matter how many ships you have blagged - is a non starter.

It's simply not feasible.

Remember Iraq (which actually borders Iran) was unable to prevail after 8 years. And they had grown up US support too.

SerendipityJane · 17/03/2026 17:54

The Falklands was touch and go really.

Well, that's what you are meant to think. Not all of it was conducted in public.

I honestly think that they believe that the 'right people' (whites and GOP) will have the proper form of ID and that the 'wrong people' (brown, black, and liberals) will not. And that there are HUGE numbers of 'illegals' all voting Dem. It's been proven over and over to be a minuscule number of illegal voters and IIRC the ones in the news recently have all been Repugs.

They probably don't consider that all naturalized citizens are given a certificate and many naturalized citizens also have US passports because they travel 'home' or simply because of the times we are living in. And whilst obviously any 'born' citizen should have a certified copy of their birth certificate I wonder how many MAGAts actually know what a certified copy is or how to get one. And how many of them have passports?

Hopefully this 'ACT' will be doomed to failure. But just in case I will have my BC, passport, AND enhanced driver's license ready to wave in their faces whilst I give a taunting "Nee-ner, nee-nee, neee-nerrrr!" at the polls.
