Would you be annoyed if your partner didn’t help when you felt unwell?

So I normally do everything, cooking ,cleaning etc
Since yesterday I’ve had a stinking cold.
Today I woke up and normally I will Make the cups of tea in bed and bring it up to him on Sundays and I feed the cats.
This morning I asked him would he do it this once as I felt terrible.
He moaned and moaned then after a hour got up,he said he wasn’t coming back to bed ,he would Make me a cup of tea but it would be downstairs and we should get up.
Any other weekend he will lie in bed till 11.
Anyway I got up,put the washing on and made us sausage sandwiches then I hoovered (all the while having to blow my nose every 5 seconds and sneezing.
I said “can you please Make tea tonight ,it’s literally chicken in a seasoning bag with mash “
He said no he wasn’t making it,don’t be ridiculous, you only have a cold and I bet you are still going out to the shop tomorrow (i need to go to supermarket)
Anyway I got up and made tea ,whilst he’s on the sofa watching television.
Im literally cutting the chicken and my nose streaming down my face and coughing my guts up.

i was annoyed.

Would you be the same ?

Why don’t you think you deserve better than this? What exactly does this prince amongst men add to your life?

He's not a partner, you're just a replacement for his mother. Surely he hasn't only started being a dick since you've been ill.

Could you start a new thread about your pups.

I’ve had a migraine this afternoon/ evening. It’s just started to clear. Partner has:
Finished work at 5 & come straight home, taken over dinner for DC.
Sorted them out, done books, bedtimes etc without even asking.
Got me painkillers, left me on the sofa, turned down all the lights etc.
As it’s cleared, made me a cuppa.

I don’t expect it, he’s had a full day at work, he’s just done it off his own back. Don’t get me wrong, he can be a lazy sod a lot of the time! But he knows when I am struggling & need help.
Your partner sounds like he needs a strong wake up call, please stop with any cuppas in bed, make it really clear he is shit & needs to seriously grow up!

He could suck my fucking balls! Why would you do any of this?! I’d have stayed in bed and I’d still fucking be there. If I’d needed anything I’d have gotten it, taken it back to bed and left him to fend for himself. He’s an arsehole but you’re an idiot.

BauhausOfEliott · 08/03/2026 21:45

Yes. But I’d be annoyed if my partner didn’t help when I didn’t feel unwell, too. You lost me at ‘So I normally do everything’. Why do you do everything? Doesn’t sound like a partnership to me.

It would be depressing

Think the thing you need to ask is why you treat him like a toddler incapable of doing basic things.

No wonder he doesn’t respect you. Stop being his slave!!

I have no idea why you are even with this man but you have to take some responsibility for this as you have ran around and done everything for him 🤷‍♀️

Nowpause · 09/03/2026 07:26

Ok so you’re really ill

and you decide to get up and vacuum and clean.

Then you decide you want a cooked breakfast, your partner says no, so you (snivelling and sneezing) weakly make you and your partner breakfast.

Then you weakly ask for him to make a lemsip, and he, having seen you vacuuming, cooking and cleaning, says to make it yourself.

Then you weakly ask for a cooked dinner, he declines to make it, so you shuffle to the kitchen, weeping quietly as you chop the chicken.

He is an arse

but my word… a) you don’t sound remotely ill and b) you come across as the most pathetic martyr on mumsnet. And that is saying something
