Things I'm sad I'll never do again

Ride a horse - too old and too many dodgy bits to risk a fall and nervous riders more likely to come off.

I'm sure there are loads of others but this is mine today.

Anyone else have one?

Where there's a winch there's a way.

Then you have to hope the winch is still there when you get back...

This could also be used for the hot sex too😁

CoastalCalm · 08/03/2026 22:10

Poop from my bum hole and pumping as I have a stoma now sorry but I miss it and find myself watching the dog pooping thinking how satisfying it must feel

Why are people not riding a horse anymore? Confused I am in my mid-late 50s, and still have no problem riding a horse. Ditto sailing. Still do that. Age doesn't stop that either! Many friends and acquaintances of mine (around my age and older) still go horseriding and sailing...)

I do miss clubbing in the 1980s though! Used to love it. Used to go on the bus with my mates, and have a great time til 1.30am, then walk home together (as it was (roughly) about a 20 minute walk back to where we lived...)

Can't do that anymore, as it's a bit sad for anyone over 40 to be clubbing! 😆

Definitely sad that I will never have - and raise - my 2 beautiful children again. I loved it so much! I do have 2 beautiful, intelligent, and successful young adult children though!

.

Edited

I am in my early 70's and have two dodgy knees and an awful back. I didn't even get on a horse till my 40's and rode till i was almost 60. The back is due to my work in the NHS before hoists and handling equipment was freely available and my crappy knees got crappy when i walked into a bog hip deep when walking my dogs and twisted both knees getting myself out. Maybe the folk who have stopped riding have similar issues to myself?

I’m also sad I won’t get married again. I loved the dress, the aisle, the love. Everything. I’m still happily married but will never have that day again. Lovely memories.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 08/03/2026 22:17

Have another baby 🥺

I have nightmares that im stuck taking care of two rather than enjoying my life with my one, so I'm definitely sure I'm one and done

But to just hold my newborn in my arms 🥺

Applecup · 08/03/2026 22:18

To eat what I want without worrying about

  • high cholesterol
  • heartburn
  • putting on weight
MapleSyrupOnToas · 08/03/2026 22:19

Looking great and attractive and just smiling at the world. Having hope for a wonderful future (I'm thinking 20s, where I hoped for a happy marriage, home, kids, career).

I have accepted my 'lot' in life and I work hard and am grateful for what I have, I'm sad I dont have the hope and optimism of my early 20s though.

Roastagainitisthen · 08/03/2026 22:22

Have another baby-only had one through ivf
Breastfeed
Dance all night to old school house, off my head
Flirt
Kiss another man for the first time
Be slim & young

Bit of a depressing thread tbh!

Lovemycat2023 · 08/03/2026 22:25

Be very drunk, in a club, dancing at 2am and looking fabulous (well, at the start of the night anyway). I am just too tired for that now! I do still love going to gigs but it’s not the same.

(I do go horse riding with lots of older people, most of who have variously broken bodies including hip replacements)

Lovemycat2023 · 08/03/2026 22:27

And I do understand why people can’t ride - I have a sore back and ankle from riding this weekend just do an hour, and I do it every weekend! It does motivate me to go to the gym and stay strong as I get older.

Cryingatthegym · 08/03/2026 22:27

I miss breastfeeding too. My boobs ache for it sometimes even though I stopped ages ago.

My youngest is 3 and I'm so, so aware that I'm in the very last of my 'baby days'. I'm going to miss it so much when it's gone.

Seawolves · 08/03/2026 22:42

Hear my husband's voice or see his smile.

Sprogonthetyne · 08/03/2026 17:12

MDMA, sorry to lower the tone. I'm older, more sensible and have people who depend on me to not die stupidly, so it's totally off the table.

But wasn't it fucking amazing at the time...

EmeraldDreams73 · 08/03/2026 22:45

Great sex. Being a size 10 and having energy and lovely clothes.

AllSlippersareBanned · 08/03/2026 22:50

I loved being pregnant, giving birth and breast feeding so much I’ve always felt a pang I’ll never do them again. It’s the only time in my life that I felt I was brilliant at something.

mrlistersgelfbride · 08/03/2026 22:52

Hold my newborn.
Run a marathon.
Snog and have sex with a new man.

Viviennemary · 08/03/2026 22:56

Ski
Have sex with a man who knew what he was doing
Ice skate

Burntout01 · 08/03/2026 23:00

Experience intense sexual/ physical attraction and ‘fall in love’
Nurture my own baby.
Live free of chronic illness and fear off sudden deterioration.
The future stretching out do far it seems infinite.
Strangely like many others here, ride a horse, at least ride properly/ with confidence.

StJulian2023 · 08/03/2026 23:01

Hmm, do we need a thread of things we are just discovering at middle age?

I went skiing for the first time at 46 this year and I LOVED it, and am planning a trip to Ibiza with my girlfriends for this summer

ChocolateCinderToffee · 08/03/2026 23:02

Be desired. I miss lust.

Love the username. Also a big Gene Hunt appreciater. ❤️

WorryingWendyDarling · 08/03/2026 23:08

Riding…I cannot afford it and I can’t risk coming off being a single mum to young DC.

I considered looking for a plod to share but I think I’d get bored. I’d also struggle for time.

Have another baby (or at least a first baby), get married for the first time…all the things I don’t regret but with I hadn’t done with XH!

WorryingWendyDarling · 08/03/2026 23:09

Feeling sexy/lustful is another one…and being sexually attracted to anyone.

XH has killed that part of me

Wishitwas1996 · 08/03/2026 23:20

Live with a bunch of friends with no responsibilities beyond ourselves and dragging ourselves to the tube still drunk at 8am. As long as you made it to work life was grand.

A few years ago I would have said fall in love but since the menopause I find the process of falling in love a bit ridiculous (despite being very happily married!)

Wishitwas1996 · 08/03/2026 23:23

And I’ll never be the harassed Mum of a gang of small children again.
