What are your extravagant spends that you have zero guilt about

My mum lives about 130 miles away from me. I visit her three times a year. I always get an Uber there and a first-class train back.

My friend nearly fell off her seat laughing at my extravagance when I told her about this earlier today😅😅😅

My DH has a bit of a tinned fish habit and can easily spend £70 a month on it.

What ridiculous, extravagant things do you spend money on with zero guilt?

Bloody loads of animals and stupid injectables.
I’ve also started getting “luxury” pedicures and the idea of giving them up upsets me. 😅

Money is never wasted if it's spent on music, or musical instruments. It is an eternal joy 😊

Too right!!! Or that's what I keep telling myself... 😊

Trixibell1234 · 06/03/2026 21:08

Getting my hair done.

Bread from a bakery.

HelloFresh every week.

I get luxury pedicures, I think it's money well spent - don't neglect your feet!

I have been thinking about wishing my teeth were straighter it never even occurred to me getting braces, does it work well when in adulthood? Are they braces you only wear at night or during the day too? I didnt ideally want them visible. What are composite bonds?

Yes braces do work in adulthood; I was mid forties when I had mine fitted. I had Damon braces - a type of train track that are fixed on and yes they were visible and horrible. I felt very self conscious at first, but I got used to them quickly. I could have had Invisalign, which is probably what most adults have, they are the ‘invisible’ ones, but my orthodontist advised me to have train tracks for my particular issues. Now, three years in from having my braces removed, I wear a retainer but only at night.

Composite bonds are like veneers, but less drastic because none of the enamel is etched away to fit them. They aren’t as long lasting or quite as realistic as porcelain veneers, but they are the choice these days for most people as they are cheaper and as I said, less permanent and drastic. I only had the veneers because they were replacing existing ones.

Holidays. I've never seen them as a waste of money.

As long as all the bills are paid and we can eat. We don't drink, don't dine out much, have a cheap car. No expensive tastes generally in clothes, tech or anything else. However, holidays are a weak point!

Well... I did. And not one person said it was fabulous. Not one!!! It is quite possible that it's a hideous garment. But I don't care, I would have crawled to the ends of the earth on my hands and knees to possess it. And now I do. And it is in my wardrobe, where I can take it out and stroke it whenever I want to, and sometimes even put it on! I should mention that it weighs an absolute ton - astonishing, must be the fringes (you'll see what I mean if you find the pix). It hangs on the body like a dream.

There is now a social event on my calendar later this year!!!!!!!!!! A 90th birthday celebration. I am planning to parade my finery. If anyone comments on the dress will attempt an airy "Oh, this old thing...!" 🌞

Omg, so so sorry, I didn’t add IT’S FAB to my post telling you to WEAR IT (got carried away by the boots) but it’s spectacular and if I could carry something like that off, I’d deffo wear it to Tesco’s and for dinners at home. Prime your DH to make flattering comments*, and bask. Please do that!

*Yes, sometimes you just have to. But only the once if he’s a keeper.

In that case, you both need to experience a Russian pedicure?

You're welcome.

God, everything. I spend a lot of money. Picking out the things I feel no guilt at all about -

My hair. Had to cut the whole family’s hair for 12 years or so and hated it, so I love having hair that looks good now.

My cleaner.

My wedding. I’ve just spent 4 figures on my wedding dress, which is an evening dress rather than a classic wedding dress, and I probably love it about equally with my fiancé.

My shoes. I have apocalyptically bad feet. I now only buy two brands of shoe, my feet never hurt and I never have blisters. For the first 40 years of my life I assumed that all shoes were agony until they’d fallen to pieces.

What are the shoe brands please?

I have very soft nails so a gel polish every four weeks is my regular extravagance.

I’m currently looking at this food mixer.

Tinned fish is so trendy and expensive these days!! 😂

What kind of fish, tuna? Or caviar?

Car lego sets, mainly Ferrari and my sky sports package, I literally only use it for the Formula 1. I will 1 day get to Silverstone with my eldest son as he is also F1 mad.

I took my late OH to Silverstone for the British GP as a birthday present, it was sooooo disappointing! You see so much more on the TV, at Silverstone you see each car once for every lap but at the speed it's sometimes hard to know who's who!

ThatMintMember · 06/03/2026 22:19

Holiday accommodation. We got a 3 bedroom detached lodge with 3 bathrooms and a steam room at Centreparcs even though my DS was in a travel cot and we all slept in the same room! At Haven we got a 3 bed gold lakeside caravan and then only used 2 of the rooms, we just put the suitcases in the 3rd room.

A little extravagant but we have a detached home and I miss it when on holiday so we like to go for some of the nicer accommodation.

meikyo · 06/03/2026 22:22

Tickets to see my two favourite bands. I will travel overseas to see them and will see them both multiple times a year when they are touring. I love hearing/seeing them play live.

Hecatoncheires · 06/03/2026 22:25

It’s got to be live music. Have been to 8 gigs so far this year and loved every moment. Got another 10 lined up before the end of June. Very exciting!

DopeyS · 06/03/2026 22:38

Holidays in glamping type places. Spent £2,500 for 10 days in UK but unusual places. Also both me and partner work away a lot so don't see each other much or do things during week.
Mine is probably cake after that. I have dietary requirements and the supermarket choices aren't great so I order from specialist bakeries.

MeTooOverHere · 06/03/2026 22:59

I have one of these. Yes I got the pink one. Doesn't get used for long distances or for long times but I love it! Safe and easy to get around the paddocks and to carry materials, and in tropical Australia anything that reduces my exposure to the sun and heat is brilliant.

Use it for carrying mulch to the chook pen.

Collecting tree trimmings and carrying to the skip bin.
Carrying fencing materials to the boundary fence.
Carrying pallets to the goose yard.
It cost me nearly $6,000 to have delivered to my front gate but I don't care!
As a retiree who lives alone with my arthritis, it is worth every cent.
