What are your extravagant spends that you have zero guilt about

My mum lives about 130 miles away from me. I visit her three times a year. I always get an Uber there and a first-class train back.

My friend nearly fell off her seat laughing at my extravagance when I told her about this earlier today😅😅😅

My DH has a bit of a tinned fish habit and can easily spend £70 a month on it.

What ridiculous, extravagant things do you spend money on with zero guilt?

Holidays, gym classes, takeaway coffee, eating out regularly

Omg, so so sorry, I didn’t add IT’S FAB to my post telling you to WEAR IT (got carried away by the boots) but it’s spectacular and if I could carry something like that off, I’d deffo wear it to Tesco’s and for dinners at home. Prime your DH to make flattering comments*, and bask. Please do that!

*Yes, sometimes you just have to. But only the once if he’s a keeper.

Thank you for the encouragement! I was a bit worried that perhaps there was a tumbleweed moment when I shared my dream dress. (One person's dream is another's nightmare!) But I'm so chuffed you think it's fab too! 🤩

Re priming DH, he's thrilled that I'm so happy with it, and says it's a lovely dress, but that's about as far as it goes. He wouldn't care if I went around in a bin liner. Which is just as well really because most of the time I more or less do!!!!!!

Just being nosey to ask why you only visit your Mum 3 times a year?. We are all different but if my adult children only saw me 3 times a year I'd be so depressed.. l visit my sister once a month and she lives 200 miles away.. anyhow to answer your question.. people think im extravagant for flying abroad 8 times a year for a 5 day break.. although its always SC but l do get a villa with it's own pool. I eat out 3 times a week for late lunch/ early tea.
But to me this is just normal .. l think it all depends on our own money situation. I take ubers everywhere if not being driven by family members... even had far as 200 miles .. there and back.

How do you have time for all these visits / holidays??

worcesterpear · 06/03/2026 23:04

Mine are a gel polish pedicure in a Vietnamese type nail place every few months as they have good chairs and it lasts ages as my toenails grow slowly.
Also coffees from coffee shops, sometimes nearly every day. I am loathe to buy a coffee machine as had a pod one that made rubbish coffee.

Booksandsea · 06/03/2026 23:09

Crikey this thread shows how little I spend! Mine is my necklace I brought myself for Mother’s Day last year. It cost about £150, has both of my girls birth stones and my (now ex) and mines. It was very much an impulse purchase. But I love it and haven’t taken it off since I brought it.

emmetgirl · 06/03/2026 23:10

My hair, nails and eyelashes

itsthetea · 06/03/2026 23:11

Well at 150 miles it’s easily done in a weekend and most people have 2 days off a week

Nat6999 · 06/03/2026 23:11

My vape juice, due to the new vape laws coming in in October which meant my juice will more than double in price I'm buying in bulk to build up a stock.

In love tinned fish but am more of a mackerel in spicy tomato sauce lover and we had tonned anchovies last night. What sort of fish is he getting? Might broaden my horizons

Find the Tinned Fish Reviews guy on Instagram - it's such a wonderful corner of the internet Grin Smoked oysters, spider crab, barnacles, octopus, and so on... I've picked up some amazing suggestions.

I love small batch, botanical perfumes. Ffern is a new find for me - the 2025 winter fragrance was exquisite.

Private reassurance scans during pregnancy.

Niceeeee chocolate and hot chocolate.

This thread has actually made me quite sad. Id say nothing. Our combined salary is £100k, and we have £275 each per month for spends and clothes. But that includes things like gifts for friends and each other. Twk mates are 50 and another friend has invited me to her wedding, so basically every penny is being saved.
No nice things. Lidl and Aldi shop, vinted for clothes, basic supermarket makeup.
Don't even get the gin box any more.
It is all being poured into pension and savings. But I'm clinging on by a thread.
I want haircuts, Mounjaro and eating out (presumably I'd save money on portion sizes anyway😂) as normal things. I want to go to comedy shows and gigs. Id like nice trainers, not Primark ones.
I don't know how we got in this position really. We are so incredibly frugal that I think it's sad
DH does discuss finances with me. But I definitely feel like a crazy lady if I suggest we need to relax.
We do go on good holidays every couple of years.

Socks. I'm so sick of cheap rubbish socks that I spent a fortune and replaced them all with decent quality socks - 9 pairs for each member of the household.

Those and high thread count bedding are all but wonderful changes.

ive been looking for good socks for ages. Any recommendations pls?

When you get your nails done, do you get those shiny bits added?

do you mean like gems or something? Nope. Occasional chrome top coat but no adornments etc!

OneRedSquid · 06/03/2026 23:38

Piano lessons with an excellent and expensive teacher.

You need to leave him and take charge of your own finances.

My house. The mortgage is horrendous, but I work from home and the enjoyment I get out of the light here is insane.

i’m pretty low maintenance apart from that but do love a beauty advent calendar.

Stickytoffeetartt · 06/03/2026 23:48

Charlotte Tilbury makeup and hotel chocolat velvetiser (and pouches)

savvy7 · 06/03/2026 23:50

My extravagant spends are on travel and wildlife adventures. I'm not interested in first class or business class travel - I could have another adventure for the extra cost of that!

DreamTheMoors · 07/03/2026 00:08

My shoelaces.

People always compliment me on my shoelaces and ask me where I get them done.

I have a man in every morning to iron my shoelaces.

Worth every pound to have them look so crisp and perfect and perfectly tied.

Lurkingforalaugh · 07/03/2026 00:12

hair appointment to stay blond and cover the greys also upper leg and Hollywood wax,
het alone is 7% of my income the same as council tax?!? Disgusting habit 😂 I have started to work out the cost of everything as a percentage to my income to genuinely understand where the money goes and it’s frightening lol

AlwaysRoomForGin · 06/03/2026 20:28

Too many things that I should feel very guilty about but don't🙈
Some £££ relate to DH - he's very expensive to keep !😊 A few years ago as a treat I bought him loose leaf long jing green tea from Fortnums in a tiny caddy and their honey with walnuts ...now that's all he will use...we live nowhere near F&M so I feel zero guilt at signing up to their membership scheme which gives me free delivery over £25 spend...easily done as the piddling tea caddy is £16 a pop & the honey £23 a jar!
He has a penchant for expensive cars & I think that's why after years of being very careful I feel it's lovely to splurge a bit on:
Molton Brown handsoap in all bathrooms and utility, Molton Brown shower toiletries for DH & Dyptique for me.
Botox twice a year, luxury hotel stays in UK few times a year with Michelin dining, a family holiday, a 10 day break just the 2 of us, long haul with business class seats, nails every 3 weeks, facials every 3 months, Sophia Webster shoes, Aspinal, Chanel and Chloe handbags. It's not always been this way and I know how vey fortunate we are.

One dog costs us a fortune at the vet every month so our pet insurance is eye watering but he (& sister) bring us (well me) inordinate joy so that doesn't count!

And this spending is from your earned income and not cc? Fair play bloody enjoy it 😂

deedeemegadoodoo · 07/03/2026 00:20

I never do a big shop. I have 3 Gousto meals a week, eat out twice a week, and two take aways. I walk to the small, local shop for essentials every now and then,

I go on a holiday every 6-8 weeks - I have a holiday home in Europe and lucky to have relatives who live in Scotland and Cornwall so stay with them for free.

Ihave lots of clothes I wear for work or home only, including probably 10 or more Bella Freud cashmere or similar jumpers.

I grew up wearing hand me downs or second hand clothes and had quite a tough childhood. I don’t have children. It’s only in the last ten years I have felt at peace with myself and my upbringing and I now enjoy life. I know people might scoff at my liking material things, but I would be happy without these things because I am now happy with my husband.

My hair (7 weekly with colour root top up)

Beauty and skin treatment

catlover123456789 · 07/03/2026 00:45

The cats, greedy buggers.
Chocolate... its really soared in price.
Wegovy (perhaps if I cut down on the chocolate both of these costs would go down).
We also bought a ridiculous chandelier for over our stairs. No regrets.

TheyreStillGoingWithThemPlumsKerr · 07/03/2026 01:37

An outrageously expensive vit C serum.
I do love skincare products!
Also, (seeing it mentioned by others) I did have a fixed brace to straighten my teeth as an adult, 20-odd years ago. Wasn’t cheap, but not loads - and still so pleased I did it
