What are your extravagant spends that you have zero guilt about

My mum lives about 130 miles away from me. I visit her three times a year. I always get an Uber there and a first-class train back.

My friend nearly fell off her seat laughing at my extravagance when I told her about this earlier today😅😅😅

My DH has a bit of a tinned fish habit and can easily spend £70 a month on it.

What ridiculous, extravagant things do you spend money on with zero guilt?

Just being nosey to ask why you only visit your Mum 3 times a year?. We are all different but if my adult children only saw me 3 times a year I'd be so depressed.. l visit my sister once a month and she lives 200 miles away.. anyhow to answer your question.. people think im extravagant for flying abroad 8 times a year for a 5 day break.. although its always SC but l do get a villa with it's own pool. I eat out 3 times a week for late lunch/ early tea.
But to me this is just normal .. l think it all depends on our own money situation. I take ubers everywhere if not being driven by family members... even had far as 200 miles .. there and back.

You answered your own (very rude) question within four words as soon as you asked it.

The question didn't really need to be asked did it...
Not everyone has a great relationship with their Mother

I spent £140 on a duvet last month. (menopausal desperation).

My heart rate increased on the way to the till and I felt a bit sick paying for it.

Since I've had it home? Zero regrets.

If it’s super lightweight please could you share the link?

Toooldfordebt · 06/03/2026 19:45

Just wondering what your credit score is. I use clear score it’s 799…. Late 50s. Just applied for a small mortgage to move home.

Just wondered if anyone has a great score and how.

Theatre tickets, and getting my eyebrows done. I have been buying more pricey skincare more as my skin ages, too.
And fruit, like cherries and nectarines. Special treats.

ForQuirkyFawn · 06/03/2026 19:56

Tinned fish expensive? I got some sardines in tomato sauce the other day for 45p, top gear...

PrawnofthePatriarchy · 06/03/2026 19:58

Buying my old, skinny cat KatKins food. I used to be able to count her vertebrae, she was so desperately thin. Now she has flesh on her back and in other bony places. She's also glossy and even seems more energetic. There's nothing left on her plate and she walks away purring after a meal. Way more expensive than the stuff I used to give her but well worth the money.

Oohd · 06/03/2026 20:00

Not extravagant but I buy fresh flowers every week. Probably spend about £10 but they cheer me up and sitting room looks homely.

Merch.

If I go to a concert or the theatre, I buy over-priced merchandise . It’s my thing. I love it.

Me too. I wear my band merch t-shirts as pyjamas! 🤣

Books. We have a limited income but when I really get on with a writer I have to keep going until the end. Although only up to 34 of the Rex Stout books. And my ShiTzu. She has her Butternut Box delivered monthly and her jumpers are hand knitted.

Please…we need a pic of your pooch in its jumper!

I work out a lot so I have a HUGE number of cute matching gym outfits. I could go to gym every day without doing laundry for weeks. Do I need all those sets? Of course not, 2 random ones to rotate would be enough. But they make me happy.

Ooo from where? This is a habit I’d like to acquire!

An extra seat at the theatre/opera/cinema/concert, so that we dont have someone sitting next to us- always book an aisle seat, and try to get the back row where possible. Have booked a full box just for the two of us once, but that was an extravagance we decided not to repeat. Its lovely to have the extra space, somewhere to put our coats, and not have people breathing on us.

This reminded me of an episode of the tv show Elsbeth! 😂 edited to add, my extravagance is whatever craft activity ice currently taken up! I go overboard. That and 1 day craft courses.

I'm disabled and on benefits so my extravagance might not be the same.

A couple of years ago I got theatre tickets and invited my dad to visit to see the show. I'm so glad I did, it turned out to be the last musical he got to see.

Currently I am using 'Hello Fresh', I've not been very well, last year I lost 20Kg without trying to. I seem to be on the mend so my carer is learning to cook using the meal kits.

I’m so glad you got to share the theatre with your dad… a lovely memory xx

Jsmck · 06/03/2026 20:13

Dr Martens.. have 26 pairs ( includes 3 pairs of sandals and 1 pair sliders the rest boots )
Jellycats - have 20
and started on Harry Potter Lego have 5 built and 4 still to be built.
also have a large Harry Potter Collection including 23 wands, there’s too much to list, although not buying anymore for that ( it’s the HP Lego now though lol )

Nomotivationanymore50 · 06/03/2026 20:13

Definitely my horse. If I added up how much I spend on him annually I think id pass out! I'm a mature student to living on a shoe string but as my late dad bought half of him there's absolutely no way I would ever part with him.
I also love to travel and save up hard for my trips away but holidays are worth every penny.

My vehicle, ex demo model only 60 miles on the clock...........retirement present to myself. Rarely spend money on myself, totally unnecessary extravagance, i do very low mileage and one for a tenth of the price would have done the job but it makes me smile everytime i get in it😍

And why not! I have a sparkly red car that makes me smile, yes I could have bought something smaller and cheaper but I love it and its MINE!

Gardenquestion22 · 06/03/2026 20:15

Never flying long haul economy again…premium or business class.

Shark Depuffi....best beauty gadget I've ever owned

Ooo is it really that good. Im tempted!

BeringBlue · 06/03/2026 20:17

Silver jewellery. Do I spend a lot on it? No; I usually buy it at brocantes. Do I have more than I actually need? Definitely. Never feel guilty about buying a piece that I can afford.

Perfume. I rarely wear makeup, so apart from my Victoria Beckham Kajal eyeliner (which I love) I spend very little on it and about eight years ago I hit on a great skincare routine that is actually very cheap. But I wear perfume every day; it's my thing.

Our cleaner, she’s not cheap and she comes weekly, and I’d argue she’s an essential not an extravagance but I admit we could do it ourselves easily.
I spend a lot on fashion and have one of those clothes & accessories personal shopper delivery subscriptions.
My car, it’s top of the range with every bell & whistle… I don’t really need a car anymore.
Our dog gets spoilt - again arguably essential expenditure.
DP spends a lot on craft beers.
Flowers for me and my mum - ‘ordinary’ bunches weekly and huge spendy bouquets every couple of months.
Concert tickets, best seats, hate crap seats.

Ooooo. Where have I been? What are these? Which one do you use? X

Waheymum · 06/03/2026 20:18

I had my hair cut/restyled today with the idea that it'll be easier and cheaper to maintain than a pixie (my usual professionally-cut style) and more feminine than a buzz cut (which my husband has done for me for years). I chose a stylist that I love and it cost over £60, which I think is extravagant, but it looks really nice...

Even this makes me happy that she walks away purring after her tasty food, bless her ❤️

BurtsBeefCrisps · 06/03/2026 20:22

M&S. I get a lot of yellow sticker items but always buy my fruit there as I actually want to eat it then rather than feeling obliged!
Posh bakery items (maybe once a week)
Posh Torres crisps.
Jewellery, although i always lose one earring!

GameOfJones · 06/03/2026 20:25

@BurtsBeefCrisps funnily enough I tried the black truffle Torres crisps today for the first time. They were AMAZING and I'm now going to have one packet a week with my G&T on a Friday night 🤣
