What are your extravagant spends that you have zero guilt about

My mum lives about 130 miles away from me. I visit her three times a year. I always get an Uber there and a first-class train back.

My friend nearly fell off her seat laughing at my extravagance when I told her about this earlier today😅😅😅

My DH has a bit of a tinned fish habit and can easily spend £70 a month on it.

What ridiculous, extravagant things do you spend money on with zero guilt?

Not really extravagant but - Renewing both mine and DH passports over a year earlier than we needed to because we were finding that the new airport scanners kept rejecting our old red passports. By the time the new ones expire I reasoned I’d be nearly 78 so maybe this one will be my last so money well spent!

I bought a passport I have zero intention of using. I started the application just before first lockdown, no idea why, just wanted to. There were complications because my expired passport was ancient but I started the application and paid online but shouldn't have done. Lovely helpful staff from the passport office were WFH and I had to call them once a week to check on prgress so I had lovely chats about their pets (barking and mewing in background), the weather ansd how we all were coping while they sorted out the mess.

luxury watches and custom backpacks / EDC gear.
No regrets, as both satisfy my collector and information magpie gene.

Also like molton brown shower gel so will spend on that, and good coffee.

plsdontlookatme · 06/03/2026 12:10

Groceries from Ocado/M&S/Waitrose. Not the poshest things they carry, mind, but I just find the produce so much fresher and the shopping experience so much more pleasant.
Gym memberships - I’m a bit of a gym snob.
Not bringing a lunch to work - I prefer to pop out for something. Lets me go with what I fancy in the moment, and gives me an excuse to have some alone time in the middle of the working day

The inverse of this is that almost all of my clothes are from Vinted, I try to walk and cycle as much as I can to save on travel costs, I rarely holiday overseas, and I rarely have sit-down meals out.

I'm disabled and on benefits so my extravagance might not be the same.

A couple of years ago I got theatre tickets and invited my dad to visit to see the show. I'm so glad I did, it turned out to be the last musical he got to see.

Currently I am using 'Hello Fresh', I've not been very well, last year I lost 20Kg without trying to. I seem to be on the mend so my carer is learning to cook using the meal kits.

Just being nosey to ask why you only visit your Mum 3 times a year?. We are all different but if my adult children only saw me 3 times a year I'd be so depressed.. l visit my sister once a month and she lives 200 miles away.. anyhow to answer your question.. people think im extravagant for flying abroad 8 times a year for a 5 day break.. although its always SC but l do get a villa with it's own pool. I eat out 3 times a week for late lunch/ early tea.
But to me this is just normal .. l think it all depends on our own money situation. I take ubers everywhere if not being driven by family members... even had far as 200 miles .. there and back.

I don't have time to read all the responses but to be fair roads go two ways! My in laws live a good few hours away and it is a major irk of mine that they have only been in our house that we have lived in 8 years twice! We have very busy lives both working full time and an 11 year old who does sports every day of the week apart from a Monday - why should all the effort come from us to see them and our son miss out on his sports competitions at the weekends when they are perfectly capable of coming to us?? 4 or 5 times a year is more than enough, if they matched us it would be 8 or 10 times a year they see us!

I can’t actually think of anything! I live an amazing life but pretty frugally (took early retirement). Everything I want is cheaper here - wine, eating out, meeting friends. This thread has made me realise how content I am for the first time in my life. Money can’t fix the things I’d like to change ie my health

Offleyhoo · 06/03/2026 12:15

Poodle. Costs the earth "to run" but I couldn't be without the fluffy bugger.

Mrssnee16 · 06/03/2026 12:15

Car lego sets, mainly Ferrari and my sky sports package, I literally only use it for the Formula 1. I will 1 day get to Silverstone with my eldest son as he is also F1 mad.

MajorProcrastination · 06/03/2026 12:19

SEVENTY QUID ON TINNED FISH???!?!?!?!?!

Fair play, it is delicious but I feel you buried the lede there.

I work out a lot so I have a HUGE number of cute matching gym outfits. I could go to gym every day without doing laundry for weeks. Do I need all those sets? Of course not, 2 random ones to rotate would be enough. But they make me happy.

I don't have high-end gym gear (well, any high-end stuff I have is from the likes of TK Maxx), but I do have a lot of workout outfits. Like you, it makes me happy, and makes me more motivated to go.

I also have a cleaner, which is the best money I spend, and I treat myself to a coffee once a week. It's a luxury to have a skilled barista make a good flat white for you.
I also use Dermalogica face cream (most of my other toiletries are of the order of Savers, or Superdrug when there's an offer on), and I love Trinny London's See the Light moisturiser/SPF; it smells and feels so luxurious. I suppose I do feel guilt, or anyway exercise some restraint, though, because I usually get it on eBay for cheaper than RRP.

You could see her more often if you didn't waste your money on an uber which probably costs well over £200 and first class train ticket, much cheaper to pay someone to give you a lift or go by coach

Have you completely missed the point of this thread??
Not one person on here needs any of these things, that's the point!
Well done, after 21 pages of a lovely thread you are the first one to make an arsy post having a dig at someone. OP said she doesn't want to see her more often so it sounds like she's making the most of an unpleasant visit!

Mangelwurzelfortea · 06/03/2026 12:25

Botox.

Crystallllll · 06/03/2026 12:26

My 2 are my gym membership and acupuncture for chronic pain. I am so frugal with everything else.

I’ve been to Silverstone once in 2024 for quali day (present from my son) - waved at Lewis as he went past Luffield, so I can die happy. That was the year he won. Fabulous to go once, but you see it better on TV and traffic is a nightmare. (BTW Ladies loos are immaculate). Hope you get to go!

My son is Lewis mad, its Charles for me though 😍 i will get us there eventually. I just hope both our boys are still driving by then lol. Very excited for this season to start this weekend 😁

Theatre tickets, opera tickets, business class flights occasionally.

But the best is when I’m extravagant for my kids occasionally as a treat for no reason whatsoever. I love seeing their surprise.

E.g. I’ve just preordered the new iPhone for DS which I’ll give him next week even though he’s not asked for it and it’s not his birthday or anything. And I bought a pair of very expensive boots for DD last week as a surprise as I know she was secretly coveting them.

Allowingthebreezethroughmyhair · 06/03/2026 13:01

Holidays - the one's this year will come to over £60k - cruise, america and middle east. Next year even more as it will be a tour round australia and new zealand for a month.

And jewellery - it's mad how much has gone on that this year. But it's all stuff that has serial numbers so it'll hold it's value.

And private school for the kids.

Zero fucks given.

BeardofHagrid · 06/03/2026 13:06

Mine is buying fruit to make my own jam. Also expensive alcohol to add to the jam. So, so delicious 🤤

SanFairyAnnie · 06/03/2026 13:20

My subscription to Jarmabox which seems to be defunct now sadly. I loved the pyjama sets every few months and the spa products were great too.

Elsvieta · 06/03/2026 13:24

Mounjaro and Botox.

Jamfirstest · 06/03/2026 13:27

@sashhthis post really touched me. I lost my mum recently.
also I learned so much from hello fresh kits it’s really changed how I cook. Well worth it!!
i can knock out a whole range of veggie dishes now. Simply cook which is just the spices is easily as good in my opinion.

Jamfirstest · 06/03/2026 13:29

Going to add the thousands I have spent on dd2 dance and fitness classes since she was about 2. She is ripped and super strong and seems to have pretty good body confidence for a 13 year old.

Myblueclematis · 06/03/2026 13:32

Sending my duvet covers out to be washed and ironed. This weather has made it really difficult to dry anything so I thought bugger it, I don't like ironing anyway and quilt covers are the worst, so two birds with one stone, washed and ironed and returned. Less than £20.

Midlifecrisisaverted · 06/03/2026 13:32

Good quality protein powder (probably £100/month) and a CrossFit gym membership 💕

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/03/2026 13:39

Cruises (I don't fly so we're either road/train/water) . We did start every other year but then added in some short cruises , did a 3 week trip last year .

Molton Brown shower gel

I don't drink alcohol or eat meat/fish/fowl or smoke .
