What are your extravagant spends that you have zero guilt about

LittlePrecious · 05/03/2026 15:24

My mum lives about 130 miles away from me. I visit her three times a year. I always get an Uber there and a first-class train back.

My friend nearly fell off her seat laughing at my extravagance when I told her about this earlier today😅😅😅

My DH has a bit of a tinned fish habit and can easily spend £70 a month on it.

What ridiculous, extravagant things do you spend money on with zero guilt?

The mad thing is, I also got some fabulous expensive bright orange underwear, and a Vivienne Westwood orb handbag, and some saucy little boots (Hush Puppies!!!!!!!! - who knewwwww...), so I've got the full kit. Maybe there will be an opportunity to flaunt it all one day. A good Girl Guide is always prepared!

I have never, ever, in my whole life spent this much money on an outfit. I'm sitting here in ancient Primark track pants and a cheap T-shirt from Amazon Basics 🤡

Oh come on! You HAVE to make an event for it.

I LOVE the boots. Would make my day to see you in Tesco in that, but better still on your way to a fabulous meal out!

The thought has crossed my mind to wear it all to Tesco! 🌞 That's my equivalent of a Big Day Out!!!

The boots are remarkable in that as well as being comfy, they somehow make your feet look absolutely tiny, like little hooves. I tell myself this accentuates the devilish feel of the whole outfit.

My Mounjaro prescription £169 a month

Prescription skincare £125 per month

Nespresso coffee subscription £112.50 per month

Blonde foils every 3 months £145

Gel nails every 3 weeks £35

These are my non negotiables… Although I am tempted to try bare nails. I’ve been getting them done every 3 weeks for more than 14 years and I think I’d like a break BUT I think I’d feel undone without them!

you might like to consider buffing your nails for a bare nail but glam look. I never use polish or gels but love the buffed mirror shine look. It needs doing carefully though, you don't want to take off too much nail surface. This is my set. They are very efficient so need using with care. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Glass-Nail-File-Shiner-Professional/dp/B08YRYW75G/ref=sr_1_42?crid=24A1ZHQWHPNQV&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.cilXne9FZ2W0JxOlHTjKWOKx94KHd_UHc73Zl4vOeoG73F5Ib89et8w1oYgZKibHyjmhGkNc4IZyiCWGwUl7nGwrPpiW4D1JEdb2j9a_GmBf8jeouhBtkhiqqrJ4JVh7s5orCL7z1uHnOL5bzV9au4p8Oj_cRh1KzxRAhQOqBF9Gueu2zMrf2469hjhnczxO9ohn3kBJyYUClaVrR54UFDPLmCxQ3PdTuwcUNKzZHE37-omdCRfRaQuLPZfwbcXHvN9dMYN4VD0ES98PxcU8Dv3xLDGvDl6HL8a81f6eEcI.jbe4SVjPkZU4hLnzf0FKVyuF5nHzNEwkG_G-kHSFhIU&dib_tag=se&keywords=nail%2Bbuffers%2B%26%2Bsmoothers%2Bfor%2Bnatural%2Bnails&qid=1772791984&sprefix=nail%2Bbuffer%2Caps%2C304&sr=8-42&th=1

Another one from me - limited edition prints by equine artist Tony O'Connor and wildlife artist Gary Hodges (mostly his elephants and big cats).

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 06/03/2026 10:19

Can I just pop back to thank all those people who were so lovely about my Audible extravagance?

When I say I'm poor and it's a spend I shouldn't really be making - I'm not starving here, and the Audible is a tax deductible expense, so I really don't mind the sacrifice to have a new audio book every month that I get to keep and listen to over and over again.

Thanks again, you lovely people.

Appleblum · 06/03/2026 10:20

I use the parking valet as long as there's one available.

MiniCooperLover · 06/03/2026 10:51

Nice dresses for day wear, I've got quite a lot now and I've just gone off trousers and jeans really.

Frannyisreading · 06/03/2026 10:55

Hair cut and colour
Books
Theatre tickets

I'm very lucky I can afford these things and I really get pleasure from them. The hairdresser is sheer vanity but books and theatre, I'm supporting the arts, darling!

Yes, it does have a devilish feel.

I think you should wear it. You will make someone's day!

Lurpak!

Omg it really is a luxury these days…

Belladog1 · 06/03/2026 11:04

5 star hotels. Once a year myself and my partner stay in luxury somewhere. It is my one holiday a year - just Monday to Friday .... and I don't want to stay in somewhere mediocre. So I save up and splash out on 4 nights in a 5 star pad .... and I enjoy every single second of it. Champagne for breakfast = bliss.

IsThisLifeNow · 06/03/2026 11:14

Mounjaro. I've lost 74kg and my life has changed so much! I was 156kg, and size 26 and now I'm 81kg and a size 14.

I have so much more energy and feel so much better in myself. Yes I have loose skin which isn't attractive, but I don't consider it any more ugly than being very overweight, and I feel so much better too!

Notgoingononlyfansyet · 06/03/2026 11:21

YelloyellowBlue · 06/03/2026 05:13

@Notgoingononlyfansyet I actually did this when I turned 30 (im nearly 50 now) Well worth it, i haven't put it all up but I can see i looked fabulous then!

I was 47. I figured I’d never look that good again. And while I don’t root my identity in how I look, it’s still nice to have a momento of the physical youth.

I just need to figure out a plan of who sanitises my estate if I die so that my mother or daughter don’t see them! 🤣🤣🤣

Freda69 · 06/03/2026 11:24

Theatre tickets and books
Private hospital for 2 hip replacements (couldn’t walk) and eye surgery (didn’t want to risk waiting). £5k on hearing aids (last ones from Specsavers just wouldn’t work).
Not really extravagant - just glad I could get things done quickly.

A German friend’s brother came to visit her in the U.K. and on the way home his baggage was stuffed with crumpets. 😂

I've just been forced by this thread to have 3 for my breakfast, they'd been in the bread bin for over a week so it was also saving on potential food waste, picking the green bits off can be tedious and these were still OK!

When it's on offer I stock up, even freezing it if the dates are too short, freezes very well.

MumzSuki · 06/03/2026 11:28

I’m 59, and my most extravagant spending in recent years has definitely been to help turn back the clock a little!
In the last year I’ve gad a face and neck lift and upper and lower blepharoplasty; I’m thrilled at the very natural looking results. Total cost was about £55,000 on Harley Street.
Other spending includes highlights and cut £125 every 8 weeks, Botox £230 every 4 months, a Mulberry handbag, an annual family holiday abroad for me, husband and 3 adult children with partners; average cost £16,000.
Regular visits to the theatre to see plays and musicals are a must; I build my life around them and enjoy taking my very elderly mum as a treat.
Regular travel to London to see two of my children and catch up over a meal; costs are huge but feels very luxurious!

Salyexley · 06/03/2026 11:43

You could see her more often if you didn't waste your money on an uber which probably costs well over £200 and first class train ticket, much cheaper to pay someone to give you a lift or go by coach

Dreamingofgreece · 06/03/2026 11:44

Not really extravagant but - Renewing both mine and DH passports over a year earlier than we needed to because we were finding that the new airport scanners kept rejecting our old red passports. By the time the new ones expire I reasoned I’d be nearly 78 so maybe this one will be my last so money well spent!

Twiglets1 · 06/03/2026 11:44

Loving this thread & reading about everyone's extravagances.

Mine include highlights at a lovely local salon, every 3 months. The cost is ridiculous but when I let them lapse my husband started complaining that " he married a blonde" ...I think he felt cheated when hair returned to original mousy colour😂

Also ... wear the dress @Beachtastic x

anddeepbreathandsigh · 06/03/2026 11:45

I have at least one latte a day

Wear it to Tesco at 8am on a Saturday - you'll look like you've just left a glamorous speak-easy 😊

Business class flights long haul

I'm too old to go in the back now

And Poilane bread at £4.50 a loaf

What are you on about?

I could see my mum more often. I could Uber there and back each week if I wanted to. I don't want to.

The whole point of the thread is that these things aren't, to us, a waste of money. They might be extravagant but we have no guilt and they're not a waste.

If I'm choosing to Uber there and first-class train back, how likely do you think it is that I'd get a bloody coach? C'mon now.

Skin care - I'm not into clothes, jewellery or accessories but I think I have a nice face, and I get many compliments on my age (56) and told I don't have any wrinkles. So, I give zero f*cks about the fact that I buy creme de la mer and other very expensive face products and have a facial every month.

Wine - I don't go out very often and I like a nice glass of red (well 1/2 bottle) a couple of times a week. I used to be mindful of the price but now I think f*ck it and I regularly pay £16 for the wine I like, or if I am feeling particularly worthy the £22 - 25 one I like.
