What are your extravagant spends that you have zero guilt about

My mum lives about 130 miles away from me. I visit her three times a year. I always get an Uber there and a first-class train back.

My friend nearly fell off her seat laughing at my extravagance when I told her about this earlier today😅😅😅

My DH has a bit of a tinned fish habit and can easily spend £70 a month on it.

What ridiculous, extravagant things do you spend money on with zero guilt?

Exotic holidays. I spend my annual bonuses on holidays with absolutely zero guilt or worry about the future. On my death bed, I'd rather have amazing memories than cash in the bank

I read these posts with interest and live them all, it also struck me how many things now considered luxury were pretty standard when I was growing up, I am not from UK and remember milkman bringing fresh raw milk in a can hung on n his bicycle , meat always bought from local butchers , butter from the local dairy , there are specialist shops that sell coffee freshly ground and you can add chicory to your taste and make it bespoke, oil always bought from oil mill no petroleum refined there, magazines were delivered to house on a subscription basis, etc makes me thankful for the wonderful times and tad sad for younger people who never got to experience these , I am only in my forties !

Interesting 👍which country please?

Applesonthelawn · 06/03/2026 13:59

I spend a lot more on clothes than my friends - buy less but only buy things I think are really beautiful and I love, and I know are the right colour for me and will look good for a long time. I spend less on holidays, skincare, restaurants, takeaways, subscriptions, etc. than they do as those things just mean less to me.

Tupperwarelid · 06/03/2026 14:07

Horse riding - expensive but good for my mental health.

Thrift shit

All things that make me happy and enable me to put up with all other shit ROFL

I can't afford half the stuff on here and that's depressing! Holiday 8 times a year? I wish 😭

I do have one guilty pleasure and that is my temple spa skin care. I get the hand batched makeup remover, and the repose cream. One lot probably lasts me 6 months to a year, as I only use a tiny amount and not that often. But it smells like a spa. It is so absolutely divine. Goes on so smoothly and it's so luxurious! I deserve it.

The lady who waxes my brows always gives me a little Temple Spa pack at Christmas. I love the smell and I'd love to get some moisturiser but I'm not sure where to start with it.

Tinned fish is so trendy and expensive these days!! 😂

Please tell me he knows about La Belle-iloise? Their shops in France are a must! Online too 🐟

Worldgonecrazy · 06/03/2026 14:48

Water. Since the south west contamination of tap water, I have not been able to drink tap water and now my test buds are sensitised to the chemicals it contains, it tastes rank.

I made the “mistake” of trying Fromin ice age water and now it’s the only water I drink.

Costs about £200 a month.

Yep, these are a regular staple of our food cupboard 😅

I've got a fuck off massive chandelier imported.... import tax was enough to make your eyes water let alone the price of the be-dazzles! I love it more than most members of my family.

I'm really pretty poor at the moment, so my extravagance is something that most people wouldn't even notice, but - my audible membership. An audio book every month is such a luxury; I run the books overnight to help me fall and stay asleep and it's like being read to all snuggled up in bed when you were a child.

So it's only about £8.99 per month, but it's money I can't really afford and yet...

Have you tried borrowing audio books from the library (easiest via a library app, usually borrowbox or libby)? Or if you have Spotify, there are some books on there I think!

Bonbon249 · 06/03/2026 15:55

I treat myself to nice gifts for my birthday and Xmas -bought myself a designer rug for Xmas. Other things have included a Lalique ring, a sewing machine and a very nice car.

BestDIL · 06/03/2026 15:55

Our motorhome.... haven't got it yet but planned for later this year. Can't wait to start touring Europe in it!

The reason I don't use borrowbox or libby is because I like to keep and listen to my books over and over again. Books that are 'disposable' I read from the library, but my audio books I keep. I don't have Spotify (which I should because my own books are on there!).

The Männkitchen Pepper Cannon…the pepper mill to end all pepper mills! The output is unreal…I smile every time I use it, and I use it A LOT.

Got it in the Black Friday sale though, so it wasn’t quite as crazy expensive.

Gigs. Band shirts, travel/hotels for gigs UK and overseas

nothtatlongago · 06/03/2026 16:15

Horse riding weekly, fresh flowers from the market twice a month and probably my biggest one, I eat out most Saturdays and get takeaway from a local restaurant on Sundays. I live alone so nobody to share the cooking with and after cooking from scratch mon-fri unless I have weekend plans, not having to cook is my treat.

Single estate Darjeeling. £105 haircut x4/ year. A facial once or twice a year. Anything more than that and guilt sets in.

The thought has crossed my mind to wear it all to Tesco! 🌞 That's my equivalent of a Big Day Out!!!

The boots are remarkable in that as well as being comfy, they somehow make your feet look absolutely tiny, like little hooves. I tell myself this accentuates the devilish feel of the whole outfit.

WEAR THE LOT.
I have some boots like that, and yes the tiny hooves effect ❤❤, but my menopausal feet have spread in the meantime and now I can barely get them on, let alone walk in them. So...
WEAR THE LOT. NOW. PLEASE.

Crumpets. Before you say they're not expensive, I'm not in the UK. I have to pay around £5 for a pack of 6 and a further £15 delivery charge. For crumpets.

They're so easy and tasty to make yourself! You'll save a fortune!!!

ImWearingPantaloons · 06/03/2026 16:42

A personal trainer, and food from M&S.

Oh, and stupidly expensive perfume.

zurigo · 06/03/2026 16:48

Weekly cleaner
Several holidays a year

But we can easily afford it, so why not? Life is about 90% drudgery or asleep, so as much as possible I want to enjoy what leisure time I get.
