What are your extravagant spends that you have zero guilt about

My mum lives about 130 miles away from me. I visit her three times a year. I always get an Uber there and a first-class train back.

My friend nearly fell off her seat laughing at my extravagance when I told her about this earlier today😅😅😅

My DH has a bit of a tinned fish habit and can easily spend £70 a month on it.

What ridiculous, extravagant things do you spend money on with zero guilt?

We spend about 20 grand a year on holidays. That's our big one. We're not particularly extravagant in other ways, but we bloody love a holiday.

I've also got a long tail electric cargo bike that was completely unnecessary but which I adore taking the kids out on.

Where do the best socks come from please @HeadyLamarr

I've bought all my food from Waitrose for 25 years! Try hard to avoid the fancy stuff, it's just my nearest supermarket.

Boob job. I was flat as a pancake before. I basically converted from a pear shape to an hourglass overnight. Am embarassed though and no one knows I did it (am single)

I used to buy high thread count bedding and cashmere bedsocks pre-dc, and hope to again when there's a bit more cash.

I get Darn Tough socks. They're guaranteed for life; if a pair gets worn through or thin you can just send them back and they send you a new pair. They're woollen (merino I think?) and lovely. I use them for hiking

An extra seat at the theatre/opera/cinema/concert, so that we dont have someone sitting next to us- always book an aisle seat, and try to get the back row where possible. Have booked a full box just for the two of us once, but that was an extravagance we decided not to repeat. Its lovely to have the extra space, somewhere to put our coats, and not have people breathing on us.

Crumpets. Before you say they're not expensive, I'm not in the UK. I have to pay around £5 for a pack of 6 and a further £15 delivery charge. For crumpets.

Wow, that’s true passion and devotion! Are they Warburtons? They seem to be the only decent brand I can find

muddyford · 05/03/2026 19:59

Perfume.
My cleaner. Saved my sanity.
Just treated myself to a rare camellia variety.

PermanentTemporary · 05/03/2026 19:59

@52andblue @Penelopeandherpitstop
I wear Hotter (wide fit, not very wide - not yet, anyway) or Saucony men’s trainers

In Hotter I wear Whisper ankle boots, their Mary Jane flats (can’t remember the name) and their multi strap sandals (think they are called Soleil, I have them in three colours). I have one pair of Hotter metallic closed toe one inch block heels that I can just about wear from car to bar, otherwise I never wear heels, or anything like ballet flats which leave me unable to walk. To be fair I do have one pair of Keen walking shoes as well.

None of this is glamorous but I’ve never had anyone scream in disgust at my shoes and I am COMFORTABLE.

XenoBitch · 05/03/2026 20:01

VR headset. I love it.

Well worth it. Crumpets are glorious.

Travel. We don't stay in 5-star hotels, but we take as many trips as we can.

TidyDancer · 05/03/2026 20:04

Mounjaro - in a bit of a plateau at the moment but am definitely the slimmest I’ve been in 20 years even with multiple stones to go!

Monthly subscriptions to Hair&Me and Skin&Me.

Lego sets - big ones.

Ooo, please share (details, not the duvet itself, obviously!)

It's a Dunelm hotel range one one. Goose down.

I got 100% cotton sheets and covers to go with it plus a set of matching pillows. I spent just over £200 all in and it's amazing.

First class rail travel, justified by getting a rail card thus the reduced first class ticket costs not much more than a full price standard ticket, then costing all I eat and drink, it’s cheaper 😂😂😂😂😂😂. That’s what I tell myself! Happy to be deluded 😂😂

MammaBear1 · 05/03/2026 20:09

Warburtons are the absolute best. There are no other crumpets that come close.

Ireallywantadoughnut36 · 05/03/2026 20:12

Another shout for butter, sometimes I get the really fancy locally made butter, i absolutely will not allow margarine or spreads into the house as i think they taste like plastic. Also posh, local, honey. Coffee beans (cannot live without) and recently fancy hot chocolate (the proper flaked chocolate you melt into milk in my overpriced milk frother). Sometimes you need a treat don't you.

PloddingAlong21 · 05/03/2026 20:13

Weekly cleaner for 3 x hours per week
electrolysis x 1 per month
nails x 1 per month
eyebrows x 1 per month

I don’t wear makeup or buy new cloths, but nails etc I like to have done. Just feel nice!

Emma6cat · 05/03/2026 20:13

My mounjaro, DH wegovy, and holidays.

Justbreathagain · 05/03/2026 20:14

I would say my log burner. It was thousands but I absolutely love it. Don't think there is much else sadly !

Whattheduck · 05/03/2026 20:16

A weekly solo trip to a local cafe where I have a large cappuccino and a slice of cake (usually coffee and walnut ) and sit in one of the large armchairs and read my book for an hour or so an absolute treat

deste · 05/03/2026 20:16

My log burner, cost a few thousand but worth every penny, i hate a cold house. Also love travel, going on our second ski holiday this year tomorrow and will probably be in Dubai at some point this year and possibly Tenerife in October.

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this thread about what adds to people’s joy in life. For me, running shoes, running clinics that keep me out and moving, physiotherapist to keep me strong and healthy, learning about my health. Made a huge difference to how I feel physically and mentally, and has helped me build confidence.
