Aww, did she get it wrong again? Poor lamb.

Are we back to just soggy toast clubs as their only achievement then? 🤔

Bloody training wheels with this lot. Policies, let the public tell them how shite they are.

@EmeraldRouletteI think so, I’m in London and it’s pretty much always red. I want Starmer to get the message but also the greens are a bit much for me. Tricky one!

Mind you it wasn’t close last time looking it up so it’d take a lot of people thinking the same thing.

With the price of oil energy risen 45% on the stock market I suspect many prices will romp away.

I wonder if milliband will be the only person happy at the thought of less vehicles on the road if £2 a litre returns, or we have rationing again.

This was from the middle of last year https://www.instituteforenergyresearch.org/fossil-fuels/gas-and-oil/persian-gulf-oil-exports-and-the-strait-of-hormuz/?amp=1 . Not pretending there may well be some impacts but seems a more nuanced position.

Today they're saying could reach £1.20 dollars a barrel.

Someone said today it's all fine we'll buy from Venezuela now Trump is running things 🙄

Times Radio good on Iranian pov right now.

Absolutely searing take on Starmer ‘spine of a jelly’, passionate on the people wanting Iranian democracy. What they’ve face for decades. Made me a bit teary.

justasking111 · 02/03/2026 21:16

Had to tell you one of the downed pilots in Kuwait is apparently a female pilot. Wonder if she's a mumsnetter?

Oh wow. I'm sorry I missed that. Lots of talk today from everywhere but very little talk about the Iranian people. I would have been blubbering too.
I went to the celebrations on Sunday. It was wonderful to see such joy instead of protests. I cried so many times!

Glad they are all safe.
I hope she's not on MN after reading some of the posts and threads on here.

Interesting, there have been insinuations that Arab countries would be upset with the USA for bringing trouble to their region. This local thanks the US pilot.

There is other footage of a downed male pilot. A Kuwaiti man rushes over to clobber him with a pole, thinking he's Iranian. When he realises he's American, he helps him instead - he gets loaded into the back of someone's vehicle to get taken to hospital.

Oops

I wonder if Kuwait will be replacing three F15 $90 million dollars planes 😁

EmeraldRoulette · 02/03/2026 22:36

@TheNuthatch oh was that near you?

I saw a moment from London with the pre-1979 Iranian flag and the US flag next to each other and it made me happy.

Obviously, the prime minister doesn't give a shit about the special relationship - but it really matters to me!

Those clips - good to see the locals looking out for the US pilots. @SpaceRaccoon I've only seen the one with the lady. I hadn't seen that one was nearly mistaken for an Iranian pilot but hopefully that would get resolved very quickly!

Yes luckily! I think he was lightly injured in the plane crash but recovering in hospital now.
That woman pilot is hard as nails though 😁

@justasking111 it was a rather embarrassingly expensive mistake! These guys need to communicate a bit better.

I know it's nearly midnight and I'm talking to myself and probably no one will read this in the morning

One thing I find weird about a lot of of the political threads on here... a lot of sarcasm.

If you know posters quite well, then I suppose it works. But totally deadpan humour and sarcasm doesn't really work if you're looking at a bunch of anonymous posts. Obviously, I can pick it up sometimes otherwise I wouldn't be saying it.

But generally, people have all kinds of views, so it's not necessarily obvious.

Was it Armando Ianucci who was saying that you can't really do satire anymore? Some of the things going on in the world are so completely bonkers, if you're chatting online with a bunch of strangers and they say something mad, there's often no reason to think that it's sarcasm or satire.

works on a thread like this, but on fast moving threads about situations as serious as this one... not so much.

Tbf I think a lot of the reason this thread exists because the of the constant sneering and sarcasm from some. Tedious.

@TheNuthatchis a star and so pleased you’re all here to chat instead.

I think a few of them have been upset with Iran for quite a long time. Places like Kuwait, Qatar, UAE are rich and wary of religious nutters who are going to disrupt things.

I hope that when this is over, Iran becomes a place that people can visit. It’s meant to be the oldest country in the world (questionable whether that is Iran or Iraq).

TheNuthatch · 03/03/2026 08:28

@EmeraldRoulette

Yes near me in Manchester. You may not remember but I posted on here a while back that I was going to the free Iran protests at the weekends. I went again on Sunday, but instead of a protest, it was a huge celebration 😁. I'll find a link to attach. You're right about the flags, Iran, Israel, USA all flown together.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c07j5egpj82o

I'm on the same page on maintaining the special relationship, as you mentioned upthread. We are totally reliant on the US for our security, whether we like it or not.

I always read your posts btw, even if its the next day. Also agree on the sarcasm. On MN, it's usually used to belittle imo.

Crowds of people fly a version of the Iranian flag with a historic Persian symbol along with some US and Israeli flags

British Iranians take to Manchester streets after US-Israeli strikes

About 1,000 British Iranians attended a rally in Manchester city centre this weekend.

According to MN, Starmer was the second coming. All would be well if we all voted Labour.
