Sorry for the multi-post!

It’s an observation that deserves repeating!

strawberrybubblegum · 27/02/2026 18:05

Weirdest of all is that the Left seem to genuinely believe that they're the 'good guys', even though in pretty much every modern dichotomy, they support the oppressors.

Sorry for the multi-post!

The point you make though is worth and needs repeating because it is so fundamental. Though seemingly for a number on other threads it seems to go in one ear and straight out the other.

boys3 · 27/02/2026 18:09

Clearly @DenizenOfAisleOfShame great minds think alike. 😀

I was just a much slower typer. Friday night 🍷my excuse

Whereistheejectbutton · 27/02/2026 18:21

The lurch leftwards is nailed on - all these specific factors are interesting, but across so many countries the same thing is happening with a splintering to green/populist left or right/far right.

this bi-election again signposting the centre isn’t holding which is worrying.

NoWordForFluffy · 27/02/2026 18:28

Labour won't know which way to lurch if the locals go Reform's way!

I'm not sure G&D would've gone Green in full GE, it's clearly a form of protest against Labour.

I have no clue why so many people are supporting the Greens. They're abhorrent.

EasternStandard · 27/02/2026 18:31

I’m pleased to see anyone beat Labour but mostly because I know it’ll tear them apart. Starmer getting rattled will be good.

I don’t think the Greens can replicate to same extent, if they do then the markets can correct them pdq.

I think Reform will do better at the locals and I’ll enjoy the fall out from that.

Agree.
On balance I think this is the best result for the long term.
Green win which exposes their lunacy to scrutiny.
‘Family’ voting exposed, ditto.
Labour humiliated / good.
Reform did as per all the polling (29%) - in a seat that was way down the list of their target seats to get a maj in a GE.
So pressure on SKS. I think the Unkranian alleged arsonists (of his property) trial due to happen in April just before the May wipeout of Liebour - interesting times.

Yes. They are extremists. As was being said on the last thread, the well-meaning hippies are gone (and I suspect they weren’t all that cuddly anyway, despite their PR) and have been replaced by vicious fanatics.

Cosying up to the Greens, or applauding them, with their trans crap and ugly racist campaigning is a dangerous business.

To motivate voters against Starmer by associating him with a Hindu, Modi, was breathtakingly divisive and nasty, quite apart from the Gaza stuff.

Albertroad · 27/02/2026 19:47

Checking in.

boyleslaw · 27/02/2026 19:51

Completely agree. The Greens chose a young, working class, attractive female candidate who worked with her hands as a plumber. Fair play to her. But she didn't say anything during her campaign in G &D that might draw attention to the problematic ‘green’ policies which could contradict her appeal to job creation and growth. Polanski has used her as a way to attract young professional educated voters disillusioned with Starmer to appeal to voters as an authentic, hard working class woman. No mention during the campaign of Green policies to leave NATO, legalise Class A drugs etc. And don’t get me started on Polanski’s overtly cynical use of targeting to the Muslim community by sending out campaigning info in Urdu.

The Left's blindness about anti-semitism is so weird - completely internally inconsistent. But I find many parts of a Leftist world-view incomprehensible.

It's not blindness.

They are the Che Guevara poster of politics.

Student idealism and lack of grown up comprehension.

DancingFerret · 27/02/2026 20:18

What I don't understand is why people whose first language is Urdu would vote for such a blatantly racist party. Someone enlighten me, please.

I'm not sure I understand the question

Apologies, I wasn't clear. The Greens weren't really on my radar until the G&D election and I'm still struggling to work out who and what they stand for.

"Mad Zac" (as a reporter on the late news just called him) seems to be a workers' champion and also pro-immigration, which would explain why the Greens' leaflets were written in Urdu.

The problem I have is that elsewhere, particularly on SM, some people say the Greens are racist.

I just don't know what to think or believe.

EmeraldRoulette · 28/02/2026 00:42

@DancingFerret oh so you're not familiar with the current beliefs of the Green Party... the comments on this thread will be helpful so do have a read if you haven't already

You might also find this piece about their (now) deputy leader will explain a bit about what you're asking

Not Labour Party related but there we go, war between US/Israel and Iran has kicked off.

I didn't quite understand why showing Starmer with Modi was in their campaign. He's the PM of India: Starmer is obviously going to work with him. Modi might not appeal to everyone - but he's another country's choice! I don't see anything that would affect the UK's relationship with India.

Was it really just about stirring up Muslim/Hindu Pakistan/India tension for absolutely no reason except to get votes?!? That is utterly outrageous, and shows quite how awful and dangerous the Greens are.

My family in Qatar have been told to shelter in place.
Family in Bulgaria say lots of American aircraft have been arriving in Sofia. It was big news because the airport was closed temporarily.

I hate war, but really hope this is the beginning of the end for those bastards.

TheNuthatch · 28/02/2026 09:01

I'm glad the by election is over. It was a horrible campaign. Hopefully it will shine a light on the green party, and what they are now actually about.
Labour MPs must be furious at Starmer for blocking Burnham. He sacrificed the seat to save himself, and for what? He's a laughing stock with no power.

Hannah Spencer ran against Burnham in the Greater Manchester mayoral election. She came fifth (out of 6).
