Oh I never knew that!

3000 lawyers have signed a letter calling for the bill to be scrapped. It wasn't in the manifesto, or King's speech, so...
And the HoL is full of lawyers 😂

Jones looked a bit pathetic. Trying to push something that nobody wants, isn't compulsory, and will barely be of any use before the end of this parliament. Reports that Phillipson and Streeting are refusing to release data or have any involvement. Oh and it'll cost the taxpayer £2bn.

Thats just what the electorate want to hear right now - not.

It’s like a turd that won’t flush. Just kick digital ID and the jury stuff away. Chagos too.

Bloody terrible ideas.

Just realised how grim that term is but honestly Labour are that.

TheNuthatch · 10/03/2026 19:35

🤣 at the turd that won't flush.

They don't even have a feckin mandate for any of this shit that they keep coming up with. Its only been 18 months!

It is as if all the cabinet ministers are in a Lower Sixth Politics lesson and the Teacher goes round the class asking them if the could each have one policy. Bridget: Close all Private Schools David: Pay back all the money taken by the British Empire : Angela build 3 Million Council Homes Keir: Recreate the atmosphere of the old East Germany by introducing Digital ID's and arrest anyone with an opinion. And than we have Zac who is on a 'Exchange' visit suggesting we kick out all Americans and allow free use of Heroin.

The teacher then suggests to all the class that they research their dream policies, and give a presentation to the whole of the Lower Sixth highlighting pro's and cons of each policy !

@redange Its like a bad dream isn't it.

Pacificsunshine · 10/03/2026 19:58

On the topic of energy…,

About 50% of our electricity now is from renewables. We have the most expensive energy in the developed world.

With the straight of Hormuz closed, surely we should see the benefits, no? This should be some mitigation.

I don’t think it will be though. Aren’t renewable prices pegged to gas prices?

If that’s the case, then I think there should be a windfall tax on the windmills.

TheNuthatch · 10/03/2026 20:03

Just reading about these new V levels. I'm all for more vocational training for young people, but this doesn't make sense to me.
V levels will be taught in the same settings as A levels, be worth the same UCAS points as an A level, and have the same study hours as A levels so can be studied alongside A levels.

Why not just call them A levels and widen the scope? Am I missing something?

EmeraldRoulette · 10/03/2026 20:12

@redange brilliant phrasing there in your sixth form scenario!

@TheNuthatch honestly I think a lot of of these changes are designed to make money for the endless stream of quangos - and also some government employees.

I was actually thinking recently how let down we have been by so many governments. And going back further, maybe we just don't know because they were better able to hide things?

It's always been a mystery to me why we don't have industry or any kind of manufacturing going on anymore and it feels like the answer can only be that several governments have not acted in our best interest. Maybe that's just what government does.

There's a lot of money for these people in creating new things when new things are not required - and then the basics fall apart. Which is the bit that really worries me right now.

JaneV1984Madness · 10/03/2026 20:16

Recreate the Atmos of Eastern Germany 😂

Dont forget red ed and his billions to plough into an unverified carbon capture

I don't think 5 year parliaments help with that. Its like being in a permanent election campaign where nothing gets done.
My beef with the V levels is that giving them a different name could put the dc taking them at a disadvantage compared with those who take all A levels. I would welcome more subject choice for A levels. Its too narrow and doesn't suit some dc.

TheNuthatch · 10/03/2026 20:22

Albertroad · 10/03/2026 20:20

So current teaching staff will be teaching them?

Yes. Same teaching, same setting, same hours.

JaneV1984Madness · 10/03/2026 21:27

But what's the difference with btech and v levels ?

TheNuthatch · 11/03/2026 09:08

Good morning 😁

This week's YouGov poll. Go on Kemi!

Reform - 23 (-)
Con - 19 (+3)
Green - 19 (-2)
Labour - 17 (+1)
LD - 14 (-)

TheNuthatch · 11/03/2026 09:12

The first tranch of the Mandelson files will be released this afternoon - after PMQs of course.

Support for the Greens is terrifying.

Greens 'Thankfully ' dropping back . However, it shows the lunacy of left wing voters that Labour are seemingly polling around 20-22% ! Up from 15-18%. This on the basis of his appalling display of leadership around Iran and military readiness of our armed forces.

Support for the Greens is terrifying.

It is. They have dropped a bit on YouGov, thank goodness!
I've been debating on another thread about why I don't think young people should be able to buy class A drugs from corner shops. 🤯

EmeraldRoulette · 11/03/2026 10:19

The Norwegian government have produced a report about enshittification, specifically with regard to technology

There's a video on YouTube as well, which is kind of funny.

I haven't read the report, but they have sent letters to UK, US and European governments saying that governments need to put pressure on tech companies to make things better.

This is the kind of thing I would like to see government doing. Big tech will only sort this stuff out if there's regulation.

it's nice that somebody finally acknowledged that technology is getting worse!
