I had that thing today where I opened the window and got nothing but the smell of weed

I was just thinking, can I be bothered to report this to the management company again?

And then my next thought was, as part of the Left/Right shuffle, Labour will relax laws on this as well. I think Sadiq Khan was already talking about it?

In Wales no-one gives a flying fig about people smoking weed. My friend lived in a block of four flats an upstairs one below her was a rental. A couple were housed there with two kids. He was dealing day and night as well as smoking in the flat.

She did contact the police no-one was interested. Because she dealt with criminals she knew a lot of officers. When she asked why nothing was done they admitted orders from high up the food chain..

SpaceRaccoon · 09/03/2026 14:13

I hate the BO stink of nasty weed. That, the litter, men loitering about, vape shops, charity shops. Just general misery, decline and overall enshittification.

If we are going to say non-tax payers get no services … thst is the end of the welfare state. At least the folks in Dubai are generally bringing some of their income back into Britain. (Remittances/capital return)

The UK has managed a pitiful 2 flights so far. People still have to pay for the flights. I’ve read different figures quoted £350 and £500. They are not free. The vast majority of British citizens are not relying on the British government for anything. They are getting out on commercial flights and arranging their own transport to other airports in Oman and Saudi.

SpaceRaccoon · 09/03/2026 14:21

I'm so confused at the indignation about Brits in Dubai and claims that they're avoiding tax. They're residents in another country, and we, in common with most countries, have a residency-based tax system. Why should they be paying tax in the UK if they don't actually live there?

I bet no-one would bitch about a Brit living in say Norway, or expect them to fund the UK tax coffers. It's bizarre.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 09/03/2026 14:45

A Labour canvasser came to my door yesterday. I was very polite; I would always be. But I made clear that I would not be voting Labour, and explained why for both local and national reasons.

He was quite possibly the most resigned canvasser I’ve ever seen. No attempt to change my mind or even to leave a leaflet. His body language shouted ‘I can’t say I blame you’.

So much this

I'm in a much better place but I do wish something could be written into the conditions of the building about weed

@justasking111 I can believe that about higher up orders. I wouldn't report it to the police. I just wondered if another note to the management company was worth it. Sometimes they will send a note to everybody but I suspect the people doing it don't give a crap anyway.

I do see it as another sign of enshittification. I really wish they could manufacture it so it doesn't smell!

@DenizenOfAisleOfShame that's interesting. I wonder if they listen to any feedback from canvassers. I'm guessing they don't.

Plus taxes on any UK income, and tax paid at all points of their lives they they aren't expats (which is normally only for a few years).

Most of them will have contributed more to HMRC over their lifetime than the average UK citizen, all the while not normally using up any UK state-funded services or benefits whilst expats.

Agreed that if they aren't repatriated free then access to the Welfare state and state services should become entirely dependent on previous tax paid.

Class war, identity politics and spite.

Interesting you should write this in 2023, I was approached by a Canvasser asking if i would like that month's Labour Magazine. I was not so polite to him suggesting that his leader name started with a 'A' rather than a K and if his lot got in power within '6 months' the country would hugely regret voting in the worst of all time. He scuttled off as fast as possible with a large grin on his face !

Perhaps being an ex Canvasser i should have had more sympathy. However, after trying to canvass for the Conservatives in 1997/2001 in Labour strongholds in the North West, it was far more reasonable than what i received.

That is because Millions of people, if they could would join the exodus to UAE and are just envious of people who live in a better place than the UK will ever be again. Fancy living in a country where the State works: Low Crime, Good Services, high standards of Education, respect for society and a high standard of living available for those prepared to work hard. Hang on didn't the UK used to offer all those things....

I saw that Keir Starmer was being booed entering the Commonwealth service, but I couldn't work out the words that someone was shouting at him. Does anyone know please?

Just found it on YouTube.
It sounded like the Starmer is a wanker song, (see football matches, darts etc) but then it got drowned out by a megaphone chanting about the royals.

EmeraldRoulette · 09/03/2026 23:43

@TheNuthatch thanks

I couldn't pick up anything from the megaphone person 😂

TheNuthatch · 10/03/2026 18:54

Evening all 😁
Busy day not being a working person today. Teenage dd said I looked very fashionable today though, so I'll take that as a win. 😂

I see Darren pocket money Jones is having another crack at digital ID. £2bn for a vanity project to save Starmer's blushes.

Vote on ending jury trials in the HoC this evening. It looks like Karl Turner has called off the rebellion for now, waiting until second reading. Raynor also rumoured to be poised to rebel at a later stage.

And HMS Dragon has finally departed on day 11 of the conflict.

TheNuthatch · 10/03/2026 18:56

Some interesting polling from YouGov. Immigration is the most important issue for voters.
Defence has risen 10pp.

And an 11pt increase in Britons saying the government are handling defence matters badly since last week.

Thanks for this. You’d think Starmer had cracked defence issues going by posts on here.

I wish Lammy would just drop the jury trial idiocy.

EmeraldRoulette · 10/03/2026 19:07

@TheNuthatch digital ID won't go away - they are determined. If I trusted government to make a useful digital ID to be used on a voluntary basis, it would be different. But I don't think any government has got anywhere near that.

it doesn't help that so much technology doesn't work in terms of usability - so I don't trust the private companies not to screw up either. And then when you had a problem, there wouldn't be a human to talk to about it.

Albertroad · 10/03/2026 19:08

Once we give up trial by jury, it wont come back. I know its not for all trials but still.

EasternStandard · 10/03/2026 19:10

Ditching trial by jury, landing us with digital ID and giving away Chagos. None were in the manifesto pre GE bilge.

Ik some stick to Labour no matter what they do but it’s such terrible policy.

Silver lining though - if they weren't in the manifesto, they can be killed in the Lords. I think the plan is to allow the bill to go to second reading, then tear it apart with ammendments, then pass it to the HoL to deliver the final blow.

Jones looked a bit pathetic. Trying to push something that nobody wants, isn't compulsory, and will barely be of any use before the end of this parliament. Reports that Phillipson and Streeting are refusing to release data or have any involvement. Oh and it'll cost the taxpayer £2bn.

Thats just what the electorate want to hear right now - not.
