Originally scheduled for 10 days, the Temporary Flight Restriction closing airspace around El Paso to all traffic due to “security concerns” has been lifted after just a few hours. Flights are scheduled to begin operating to ELP in about 30 minutes.

Seems to be speculation amongst experts that it was likely they were testing anti-drone tech hence the closure.

With all the empty space surrounding many military bases in the US, why would they need to close down urban airspace just to test anti-drone tech?

Area 51 comes to mind. Testing things is what they actually do there. And there's MCAS Yuma. Far enough from Phoenix that they wouldn't need to shut down a major airport.
