I wondered if it was something related to potential action against Mexico (doesn’t El Paso border Mexico?)

Yup. Right on the border, built up areas either side.

My guess is Trump has just found out, has recently been in a Gaza de-brief, and thought .. "tunnels".

So drop a few bombs on the Mexico side, and claim to have destroyed 60 miles or a million miles of tunnels.

bloodredfeaturewall · 11/02/2026 11:07

as far as I know el paso has a large military base and a large immigrant detention centre.

and the federal drug enforcement agency

More no fly zones,

Huh. Also NOTAM issued for New Orleans for five days. Same Special Security Reasons.

And Santa Teresa, New Mexico.

How very odd.

We watched 'One Battle after Another' a few days ago, lots of references to that song.

so anti cartel type action?

Spandauer · 11/02/2026 14:36

It appears air space has/is reopening.

Arse and elbow come to mind.

(Ed to add: Don't know about the other closures)

Originally scheduled for 10 days, the Temporary Flight Restriction closing airspace around El Paso to all traffic due to “security concerns” has been lifted after just a few hours. Flights are scheduled to begin operating to ELP in about 30 minutes.

Just saw that about El Paso.

Anybody got any credible theories as to why?

Personally, I think it was just a 'flex'. They did it because they could AND because it creates fear of 'the other' in the people they want to create fear in (MAGA).

AcrossthePond55 · 11/02/2026 14:56

@Lalgarh

The Alamo is in San Antonio, about 550 miles to the east. 550 godawful empty boring miles of desert. Done that stretch a few times with our trailer.

Spandauer · 11/02/2026 15:02

But who will have all those babies the desirable Republican men want?

Gallup: "40% of [US] women aged 15 to 44 say they would move abroad permanently if they had the opportunity." (Was 10% in 2014.)

That'll just accelerate removing womens rights.

Remember when Trump went to the wrong Alamo ?

Similar to the 4 seasons episode :-)

Trump Goes To the Wrong Alamo in Metaphor for His Presidency | The Mary Sue

Donald Trump went to Alamo, Texas instead of the Alamo in San Antonio because he is deeply stupid.

Seems to be speculation amongst experts that it was likely they were testing anti-drone tech hence the closure.

Whatever happened to that wall ?

Seems to be the US equivalent of signwriting on a big red bus.

With all the empty space surrounding many military bases in the US, why would they need to close down urban airspace just to test anti-drone tech?

Area 51 comes to mind. Testing things is what they actually do there. And there's MCAS Yuma. Far enough from Phoenix that they wouldn't need to shut down a major airport.

logicisall · 11/02/2026 15:42

Am I the only one watching Sky News live coverage of House Judiciary Committee hearing? I fear that I should have just held out for the analysis in tomorrow's news.

Pam Bondi just asked applicants for judge roles and JAG lawyers to send in their applications.🙄

Wall? What wall? We don't need a wall. We have masked armed paramilitary ICE agents. That's much more fun effective than a stupid wall.

logicisall · 11/02/2026 15:45

ooooh, argy bargy bet Jayatal and Bondi!
