I reckon his hospital ship will actually be an invasion force. Maybe a carrier with a big red cross painted on the side.

Doesn't he have to get one of the USA's two hospital ships afloat again before he can send it anywhere?

Not if - as @RedTagAlan suggests - they use one of Trump's sharpies to draw a wobbly red cross on the side of USS Nimitz

PerkingFaintly · 23/02/2026 14:18

I think he gets away with that, to be honest.

I don't doubt that Patel is a self-interested grifter (he'd be out of place in the Trump administration not to be) who may well have gone to the Olympics as a jolly. In fact it's not obvious what "work" would need him in Italy on the day.

But I'd see taking a moment to celebrate with a national team as something even a hardworking, apolitical director would do, if they happened to be on the spot.

DuncinToffee · 23/02/2026 14:21

The US Embassy in Beirut has evacuated its staff as a precaution.

This also happened the day the US bombed Iran in June.

Rubio also postponed his visit to Israel

Hospital-ship Potemkin?

His department denied that he would be at the hockey match and attacked journalists for suggesting he would be there.

Was it a body double ?

Ohhh. The do manage to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, don't they?

I had a look to see if there was any news about a hospital ship being underway, and I found this fantastic spoof article. This is a must read.

AMERICA FIRST: Trump Deploys Hospital Ship to Greenland in Historic Humanitarian Mission | Next News Network

No wait, Its not spoof ?

"The hospital ship deployment exposes a uncomfortable truth - if Denmark was adequately caring for Greenland's population, would American medical intervention be necessary? The answer speaks volumes about European mismanagement of their territories."

"Patriots should ask themselves: When was the last time you saw Denmark deploy hospital ships anywhere? America leads, others follow - if they bother showing up at all."

I just twice tried to post a comment, using my VPN to post from Denmark. Got a 'network error, please try again' both times.

He will get away with it because it's at the bottom of the mountain in terms of what they're getting away with. I don't recall any previous FBI directors flying around the world to sporting events, however. It's not really part of that job.

flapjackfairy · 23/02/2026 15:54

well Trump has now posted an AI picture of himself scoring the winning goal. He can't let anybody else have any attention can he ? It always has to be about him. Was there ever a more narcissistic person in the whole of history ?

He is upset about his bad polling, 'fake polls'

Will one of the hockey men give him his gold medal?

Not much mentioned about the women's team.

AcrossthePond55 · 23/02/2026 16:01

Soooo, I see all the vociferous MAGAtTweeters/Truthers & MAGA news sources are now sliding silently back into their hidey-holes at the news that the would-be assassin was, in fact, a Trump supporter. But will they make any apologies or issue corrections? When hell freezes over. They'd much rather let their lies and accusations just drift through the cybersphere.

PerkingFaintly · 23/02/2026 16:23

I must be hallucinating.

Nigel Farage has been on his hind legs saying "we shouldn't have trial by media" and parliament shouldn't pass legislation until the police and courts have finished their jobs.
https://www.facebook.com/reel/25928355846825013

Has he had a road to Damascus moment about his "trial by media" attacks on Labour. Or indeed on Tories who oppose him?

No of course not. He's talking about The Andrew Formerly Known as Prince.

What with Epstein and Farage sharing a political advisor in Steve Bannon long after Epstein's conviction, I wonder if Farage is getting alarmed the media may pay too much attention to Epstein associates.

(I know that's not strictly about Farage's other chum, sex-offender Donald Trump, but I feel it does belong on this thread because of Bannon and his machinations. Also I'm in shock and had to say it somewhere!Shock)

Farage was incredibly stupid to post that. There's a by election this week.

Well, Mandelson arrested now. So the ever decreasing circle and all that. Trump wanted Farage as Ambassador to the US, so there is a sort of connection.

user3398721 · 23/02/2026 17:46

Did anyone else see the Telegraph story about Epstein having secret files in storage facilities around the US?

I can't access it because I refuse to give details and/or money to the Torygraph, but am curious to know what's in there.

PerkingFaintly · 23/02/2026 17:49

I've seen some link to that story too, though I can't remember from which outlet as I didn't click either.

Will keep an eye out for it emerging on some free-to-read outlet.

IT seems to have originated with the NYP:

Farage could never be an ambassador. It would require too much scrutiny, and leave Farage unable to rabble rouse.

I have a vague memory that I suggested Starmer should appoint him back in 2024. It would have left Reform leaderless, and Farage restrained - which is why Starmer could have offerered it knowing Farage would have to turn it down.

Win-win as they say
