Tried it once ...... never again!!

Just caught a bit of the Winter Olympics on TV and was reminded of the one and only time I tried skiing. It was one of the worst and most terrifying experiences of my life and I will definitely not, never, ever be doing it again!!

Ditto, my only experience of scuba diving .... still having nightmares years later!!!!!

Both these activities are on my "Tried it once but never again" list. Anyone else got a Never Again experience?

Horror films, or films with graphic violence. There's enough going on in the world right now that's actually real, I don't need to spend my leisure time watching made up content of this nature. My nervous system is also greatly benefitting from this decision.

DH insisted on doing this in Alaska, I was petrified. Then to add insult to injury, he puked all down my back as we swooped through a national park. I was unsympathetic and turned the air blue, not realizing that everyone in the plane could hear me calling him a stupid fucker through their headphones. 😂

He also puked on a sea plane in the Maldives, but I’d planned ahead - gave him a bag ahead of time and pretended not to know him when he started blowing chunks.

This has really made me laugh…

CrossFit. I’m 5ft and dumpy and was paired with a tall Russian woman who resembled She-Ra.
Couch to 5k. Got to 5k and the relief of never having to do that again.
Ditto Race for Life.
Eating sheep’s lung. It was a delicacy apparently, but the closest I’ve ever come to vomiting on my plate.

Inforgotten · 09/02/2026 13:05

Going on a cruise. I hated every single minute and having nothing good to say about them.

I remember being put on a morphine clicker after the birth of DS2. It was like being raised up on a pink cloud.

I daren’t use it because it felt so good. They took it off me saying I obviously didn’t need it. I did, I was in agony - but I just knew that anything that fucking great wouldn’t be good for me!

Sensible decision! And once you’re a slave to something so good, there’s no one there when you need to stop. No buttons to press…..

The scenic route to the Isle of Skye. Single track road with passing places cut out at the edge. No barriers. Sheer drops at least 3 million feet high.

100% never again, alive, dead, stuffed, pickled or mounted.

DataColour · 09/02/2026 13:07

Another Go Ape hater here! Went for DD's birthday with DS in tow as well. Totally terrified and wanted to quite at the first jump but I couldn't because they were too young to go on their own. Cue the kids shouting at me to get over myself and about a dozen people waiting behind me. I didn't want to let the DCs down so I did it but I was shaking throughout and it didn't get any better.

Also roller coasters - hate them.

And salty liquorice - tastes like feet 😝

Sex with a Tory. Wasn't for me.

This wins

Cocolapew · 09/02/2026 13:08

Avocado
Oysters
Roller coasters or any fast fairground ride that spins you around, gives me vertigo afterwards

bibliomania · 09/02/2026 13:09

Water-skiing, tequila and fairgrounds.

Go ape-did it twice, once with an ex (who loved it) and with dp (who got the wrong end of the stick when I told him I hated it the first time)

I ended up a tree, clinging on for dear life in what felt like high winds (there wasnt but felt like it) while the poor sod running it had to climb up and get me down

Cycling-dp loves going out on his high spec bike in the summer

He bought me a cheapy bike so I could join him

I spent the mile we cycled out of breath, stopping every few minutes and imaging him with a knife stuck in his skull

I had a tantrum and went home after a child (aged about 3) zoomed past me on his toddler bike

Horse riding-i loved horses as a kid and had lessons

Dp (thoughtfully) bought me a horse trek (2 hours)

I got a horse that didnt want to move (he'd have been happier snoozing in his field) and some American bloke shouting 'when are we cantering?' on repeat the whole time

Cantering?I was clinging on for dear life the whole time and I dont think my horse could have ran if he'd had a rocket up his arse

It lasted well over the 2 hours and I honestly couldn't walk back to the car-i couldn't walk properly for about 3 days

Later quest-my mother got free vouchers so sent myself,my brothers and cousin off for the afternoon (I would have been about 10 years old)

I had one round, fucking hated it and sat out for the other 3 games

Got grassed up by my brothers and cousin which set my mother off on a rant about how ungrateful I was

No,I said I didnt want to go,I couldn't leave them as I was in charge of getting us there and back and had every right to sit out because I hated it

The gym-the go ape ex was obsessed with the bloody 'high class peoples gym' (his words) that he was a member of (if it was so 'high class' I have no idea why they let him join)

I hated it-i sat on some bike thingy, cried and wanted to leave while he ponced about, staring at himself in the full length mirrors

He insisted on a sauna (hated that),swimming which gave me an ear infection and a hot tub (god knows what that was but sitting in a giant bath/being sprayed at with water with about 6 strangers is not my idea of fun and i ended up with thrush-no idea if that was related)

I made him leave and headed to the maccies thats next door and ordered a big mac meal while maintaining eye contact with him the whole time I ate it

That relationship ended within the week and I've made peace with the fact I hate exercise

marginallyawake · 09/02/2026 13:10

Dating a southerner.

I’ll see myself out…

olderbutwiser · 09/02/2026 13:10

Spin class. If I could have worked out how to get off the bloody bike I’d have walked out. Shouty loud sweaty aggressively competitive, no idea how to change the gears, my worst nightmare.

Also a hanging yoga thing that was completely incomprehensible, neither relaxing nor exercising, more like a woo version of twister.

(also anal).

DonnyDoris · 09/02/2026 13:11

Definitely skiing - genuinely thought i would never get off the mountain

Happyharper · 09/02/2026 13:11

Agreed! Skiing was the worst week of my life ( and was one of the most expensive!)

Starlight1979 · 09/02/2026 13:12

I've never been skiing but it's always been on my bucket list. After this thread I don't think I'm going to bother 😂

Whitewashday · 09/02/2026 13:12

IMAX 3D cinema trigged a bout of labyrinthitis I basically crawled out of the cinema, told my DH to just stay with our DC’s and have the experience. A staff member rescued me and had to fetch a wheelchair to take me to the First Aid Room, apparently I was the only person to ever react that badly, which I refuse to believe. DH and DC loved it.

Linnet · 09/02/2026 13:12

Go Ape, I hated every minute of it and I’m not ashamed to admit that I cried at one point. It was awful. Oddly I liked the zip line just not the climbing up the ladder and standing on the tiny platform bit. So no, never again.

i also wouldn’t ever go scuba diving, snorkelling or white water rafting, I’m not good in water. Or caving, too claustrophobic and I could get stuck and die. I don’t fancy skiing, even though I don’t live very far away from a ski resort I’ve never been and never will. Also don’t want to go camping I don’t see the appeal.

however I love boogie bounce (on the little trampoline) and clubbercise but sadly there are no classes near me now.

bumphousebump · 09/02/2026 12:30

Malta.

Suba diving - it was an hour of claustrobhobic awfullness. I'll never do it again.

What was wrong about Malta? I have never been there but it is on my long list of places to maybe visit some day.

Then again, I also like skiing so 😂

Lookingtodate · 09/02/2026 13:14

Date a tory

get married

drink hot chocolate

horror movies

I never understand the hate for Malta. It's one of my favourite holidays that me and DH have been on!

NowInNovember · 09/02/2026 13:15

Rollercoasters.
Camping.
A pedicure. I've often been to the chiropodist and for massages and facials but having someone bending over me painting my toenails just felt really weird.

WildLeader · 09/02/2026 13:15

Roller coaster. Universal Orlando

fucking AWFUL

NEVER EVER AGAIN

Kadiofakit · 09/02/2026 11:56

Yoga - actually tried a 3 week course but it really isn't for me

That could easily be because the type of yoga or the instructor werent for you. I can only do sessions with my favourite instructor, almost every single time I try a different teacher its a disaster.

I love this. An ex made me go for a long row/kayak on the river with him as a surprise... I took the precaution of sitting behind him in the boat and mostly just pretending to row. He was knackered after and we never went again. 😁
