Tried it once ...... never again!!

NagathaCrispy · 09/02/2026 11:30

Just caught a bit of the Winter Olympics on TV and was reminded of the one and only time I tried skiing. It was one of the worst and most terrifying experiences of my life and I will definitely not, never, ever be doing it again!!

Ditto, my only experience of scuba diving .... still having nightmares years later!!!!!

Both these activities are on my "Tried it once but never again" list. Anyone else got a Never Again experience?

Having just googled ‘andouillette’ it looks like actual shit too.

From this description, surely it quite literally is! - Andouillette is a French coarse-grained sausage made from the intestine of pork, pepper, wine, onions, and seasonings. Andouillettes are generally made from the large intestine and are 7–10 cm in diameter. True andouillettes are rarely seen outside France and have a strong, distinctive odour coming from the colon.

I remember saying that I didn’t want anything to make me feel that good because what would life seem like afterwards.

I remember being put on a morphine clicker after the birth of DS2. It was like being raised up on a pink cloud.

I daren’t use it because it felt so good. They took it off me saying I obviously didn’t need it. I did, I was in agony - but I just knew that anything that fucking great wouldn’t be good for me!

BunfightBetty · 09/02/2026 12:51

A rollercoaster. Wasn't even one of the really big ones. That feeling in your stomach when it does the drops.... man that HURTS. I cannot stand the feeling, just cannot endure it. It's the worst feeling in the world - why do people like it??

And the whole thing of wanting to die, but not being able to get off till the ride has ended, when time stretches infinitely and 90 seconds feels like 90 hours.

Never again. Not even for DD. Not for £5million. Never.

😱😱😱 what did you not like about it?????!!

I hated all the very big, fast young men pounding away all around me with no regard to anyone around them (I was in my 50s at the time) and then, being one of the slowest, the (patronising to my ears) encouragement as I brought up the rear. <shudder> It was like being back in a PE lesson at school. I’ve always been really shit at sport and found parkrun humiliating. I much prefer running on my own. Still hate running but at least it’s not psychologically damaging on my own!

BezMills · 09/02/2026 12:51

Skydiving (absolutely terrified me, never jumping out of a perfectly good plane again)

Scuba - did it once in a grimy harbour in Mallorca - I'm pretty claustrophobic in my old age, I just don't see any fun there for me.

Step and Dancercise type classes - not coordinated enough to have any fun, gave it a good go but just no.

Also swimming near turtles. They put sea fleas in the water so the turtles would approach and the sea fleas bit me everywhere. I was terrified I would get eaten by a shark and my friend was even more scared than me so I had to try and be the brave one.
I'm sure the turtles don't need that sh*t in the their loves either. Barbados. I wouldn't do it again. I wouldn't want to swim with dolphins either (wild, I would never swim with a captive anything). I love dolphins but they are huge. I've seen them reasonably close from a boat off the Cardigan coast which was absolutely magic but I don't want to get it the water with them.

I've been in a restaurant in France where the table next door ordered them - it reeked of poo. Put us all off our dinner. They must taste really fantastic to get people eating them despite the smell, but I could never bring myself to find out.

TroysMammy · 09/02/2026 12:53

Alton Towers and any other type of roller coaster "fun".

Zumba and will never ever again attempt any form of exercise class carried out to music and enthusiastic "whoop whoop" instructors.

Nevereatcardboard · 09/02/2026 12:53

My ex loved skiing and insisted that I tried it, even though I am completely uncoordinated (I have since discovered that I have dyspraxia, as one of our DC was diagnosed with it). It turned out that I couldn’t even stand up on the skis, let alone move while remaining upright.

I was even worse at ice skating, as I couldn’t get my balance to walk from putting on the skates to the rink. It had never occurred to me that the blades were so tricky to walk on away from the ice.

Aged 10 I was banned from the cycling proficiency class, after I hit a parked car and then ran over the instructor’s foot because I couldn’t balance or control the bike.

They don’t. They taste of pig’s arsehole. It’s a French macho national pride thing.

The overnight train from Sydney to Melbourne.

100% agree. So bumpy, impossible to sleep at all.

Dixie81 · 09/02/2026 12:58

Snorkelling. Breathing underwater felt so ‘wrong’ and unnatural that I was too distracted and panicky to enjoy looking at the fish. I would never try scuba diving for the same reason.

Also mountain climbing. I did this once with a group for my Duke of Ed. A miserable exhausting slog for 6 hours and then the cloud/fog was so thick we couldn't see anything at all at the top. I remember sitting on a rock to eat my sandwich, shivering and swearing never again. To top it all off, the boots I was supplied with rubbed my heel so badly, I ended up bandaged and unable to wear anything except loose wellies for 3 weeks after.

Braindraining · 09/02/2026 12:58

Tai Chi, I couldn’t remember any of the moves. I did three classes, then ditched it.

Pilates, I felt like a beached whale. Just one class.

Justthisthanks · 09/02/2026 12:59

Kayaking. I tried it a couple of times but had a proper tantrum the second time. We had two kayaks for two adults, two children and a dog and were pootling down a beautiful river in France. But I couldn’t get the hang of paddling and steering and none of the instructions that were shouted at me by DCs - 12 and 15- or by DH were helpful in the least. We ended up with me in one kayak and everyone else in the other 🤣 I went down several sets of (really very gentle) rapids backwards or sideways, got repeatedly beached. Just a shit way to spend an afternoon in a beautiful place. Not my finest hour. It really was a proper tantrum and my whole family laughed at me.

Port1aCastis · 09/02/2026 12:59

Getting into a car with my Mother driving, jeez she hit a bollard before we got to the top of her road and then she managed to drive into a big bush at the side of the same road. We eventually got to the town centre and she had 4 attempts at getting into a parking spot scraping her door against a concrete post while trying, then she got out saying you do it. On the way back I offered to drive but she declined my offer and managed to almost get us home but forgot that she was supposed to stop at the crossroads and nearly killed us. She's still driving but without me.

Imisscoffee2021 · 09/02/2026 12:59

Bungee jumping, that was fun to do once but never ever again 😅 caving too, no thank you.

Teawhite1 · 09/02/2026 13:00

London Eye. Had to sit in the middle bit with my eyes closed. Pathetic.

I took the bus but in the opposite direction for NYE. I remember the journey being not that enjoyable.

CointreauVersial · 09/02/2026 13:00

Funny how all the responses divide neatly into the following four themes:

  • Scary sports
  • Drugs
  • Bumsex
  • French sausages

Mine would be Yoga - good lord, it's dull. Put your crystals away, and I'll just do a few stretches, thanks. Yawwwn.

The other one is Acid. Had the best night, just incredible, but I could see the black around the edges, how it could very easily be not very fun at all. Once was enough.

TheWibble · 09/02/2026 13:01

Camping. I'm terrified of spiders and we ended up with loads of tiny spiders in the tent. It was 13 years ago, and I still have full blown night terrors during periods of high stress, where I think spiders are crawling over me in bed.

Motnight · 09/02/2026 13:02

Sex with a Tory. Wasn't for me.

Queenoftartts · 09/02/2026 13:03

I loved skiing I went with school for outdoor pursuits. I wasn’t very good didn’t get to go very high up the slope but I wasn’t the only one.

Hiking up a mountain with a rucksack nearly as big at 11has to have been the absolute worst. We went for an overnight bivie at the lakeside YMCA. Camping under a plastic sheet and and our sleeping bags were in a plastic sack. It poured down all night I was freezing and only 2 of us had a working torch 1 being mine the other being the leaders. I liked the sausages and beans cooked on the camping stove that was about it. When we trekked down we had to take part in a sports day for the last day there. But the rest of the week was fun.

Starlight1979 · 09/02/2026 13:03

I'd erased this from my memory but the Cu Chi tunnels in Ho Chi Minh. Absolutely fucking terrifying. I had a panic attack half way round and our guide had to try and calm me down.

Also, raves. Got talked into going to one once. Unfortunately I don't like drugs, loud music or dancing 😂
