Tried it once ...... never again!!

Just caught a bit of the Winter Olympics on TV and was reminded of the one and only time I tried skiing. It was one of the worst and most terrifying experiences of my life and I will definitely not, never, ever be doing it again!!

Ditto, my only experience of scuba diving .... still having nightmares years later!!!!!

Both these activities are on my "Tried it once but never again" list. Anyone else got a Never Again experience?

Andouillette. Ordered by mistake in Paris. Smells like actual shit.

Oh yes, me too! Looks like actual shit too. No idea why anyone would voluntarily eat it.

blackheartsgirl · 09/02/2026 12:31

Roller coaster when I was 9. What was my mother thinking. Haven’t been on one since and I never will.

caving nope not ever ever ever. School trip holiday camp thing where we all either had to go rock climbing/abseiling or climb up tall tree stump, stand on top then jump off (with harness). Nope never again. We then were made to crawl through made up tunnels on our stomachs. Absolutely never to all this again.

flumes in swimming pools and resorts, easy hard difficult. Nearly drowned in one when I was 9.

Caving, definitely! I was an additional adult taking a school trip of 14 year olds, so I thought it would be an easy little trot through some caves, but we did something horrific they called an 'envelope' which was crawling on your belly through a very long slot of cave, then a 'chimney' with a twist in it which was very very narrow. I had to bring up the rear, make sure they all through okay, and one had a real panic attack about it (can't blame her) and I thought we'd never get out. I felt proud I'd managed it, but never again...

Oh my god @thisoldcity just reading your post makes me feel panicky.

Skiing!

Walking up Snowdon.

Cannabis.
Squash.

All these were done once,I have a long list of things I wouldn’t even try once.

1457bloom · 09/02/2026 12:31

Go Ape, I was stuck for one hour at great height terrified with no way down, stuck in a queue with other terrified people not moving due to overcrowding.

MinnieMountain · 09/02/2026 12:31

Skiing. Well, I've tried 3 times because DH and DS love it but it's cold, wet and out of control in a bad way.

Speed.

A big theme park ride.

ultracynic · 09/02/2026 12:32

Seafood. Tried a lot of it once on holiday, didn’t love it and had serious D&V for days afterwards. Decided I just do not need it in my life.

Cocaine. (Well, twice.) It was too good, and given that it’s totally unethical, quite apart from its legality, I couldn’t risk it becoming a habit.

I could've written this!

Also truffles (the kind that grow under trees, not the chocolate ones; I'll try those all day long).

Blueuggboots · 09/02/2026 11:47

bounce fit, or whatever it is called on a mini trampet thing. My poor pelvic floor!!

skiing definitely. Hated it!!

I came here to say this. I pissed myself.

1457bloom · 09/02/2026 12:33

Hot air balloon in a tiny wicker basket being scared of heights and no way out of the situation.

AstoriaQueen · 09/02/2026 12:34

Parasailing or whatever its called when youre dragged along by a small boat with a parachutey thing. I agreed because I was tipsy and omg it was terrifying 😳 I think had I not been drunk I would have had a heart attack.
I cant even think about it properly.

Cosmetic surgery abroad- nearly died. Very traumatic and terrifying.

Everyone saying edibles needs to give them another try though! I can't believe anyone could hate them or find them scary!

Bananafofana · 09/02/2026 12:34

Scenic helicopter ride. The Lake District.

Barkcloth · 09/02/2026 12:35

Parkrun. I do regularly go running by myself but I wouldn’t do parkrun again if you paid me

Hairissueshelp · 09/02/2026 12:35

I love scuba and skiing. Ive been night diving and cave diving.
Bu the Smiler ride at Alton Towers, I felt like I had been in a car crash. Never again will I ride the Smiler 😂

BreadstickBurglar · 09/02/2026 12:35

Random exercise class - I thought I was pretty unfit (not horrifically) but I didn’t realise I would have to leave 15 mins in thinking I was going to die of heat/sweat/lack of oxygen. Turns out I had undiagnosed asthma, what fun.

Why aren’t there exercise classes aimed at unfit people? We are the ones who need them!!

Horse riding. Tried it in Mallorca and had to be helped on & off the horse. My horse fell out with the one in front and got quite feisty. Scary.

Dodgy fairground rides. There was a particular one where I felt I was going to die. Not been on one since.

Wild camping - tried it with the Guides age 10 - one night of extreme discomfort put me off for good.
Basically I had a sleeping bag on the hard ground in a bell tent packed with 9 other girls, no room to even roll over. We had a bowl of water on a homemade stand to wash with. Basic af.

Yes, it sounds pathetic but I wouldn't go on the Waltzers again. We were in this giant teacup and they made it go round really fast. I felt so ill, I thought I was going to die.

Quad biking. Thought it would be great fun. Fucking HATED it. Never again.

Me too. I've done a ton of miles on motorbikes but quad bikes were so different that all my reactions were off. Plus I couldn't get out of the habit of putting my foot down when coming to a stop. Horrible things.

MrsSlocombesCat · 09/02/2026 12:37

A certain type of sex that I don’t want to spell out. It’s painful, unpleasant and even dangerous.

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 09/02/2026 12:37

noidea69 · 09/02/2026 11:58

I thought anal would have been mentioned by now.

😂

OccasionalHope · 09/02/2026 12:37

Camping.

Would never dream of trying most things OP have mentioned as I know I would hate them.

peachescariad · 09/02/2026 12:37

Parachuting
Bungee jump
Scuba diving
Sushi
Flying Ryanair
Darts live championship game
Go Ape....aged 57 and had to be helped off the 4th platform....still scarred

CambridgeCats · 09/02/2026 12:37

Skydiving - it was amazing and I was 22. Now I have DC there is no WAY I’d risk my life in that way again. (I know that statistically it’s probably more dangerous crossing the road but yswim).

Swissmeringue · 09/02/2026 12:38

I love skiing, scuba diving and go ape so I'll take all your slots at those things thanks.

Festivals, went to V festival once and I hated every second of it. Being freezing cold and uncomfortable all night, boiling all day, everything was a wall of noise, cups of wee being thrown through the crowd, lugging our tent through 57 fields to find somewhere to camp. Fuck it, fuck it all.

“…..has a strong, distinctive odour coming from the colon….”. What the hell?

AgentPidge · 09/02/2026 12:39

I hate heights. Near me there's a rickety stairway from the beach up the cliff to a cafe at the top. Lots of people were going up and down it, so I went up. In flip-flops, plus I found you could see right through the steps. It was only the thought of the cake at the top that kept me going! Thankfully there's a roadway walk down.
