Tried it once ...... never again!!

Just caught a bit of the Winter Olympics on TV and was reminded of the one and only time I tried skiing. It was one of the worst and most terrifying experiences of my life and I will definitely not, never, ever be doing it again!!

Ditto, my only experience of scuba diving .... still having nightmares years later!!!!!

Both these activities are on my "Tried it once but never again" list. Anyone else got a Never Again experience?

These have reminded me. Never again for scuba diving, snorkelling (not sure why I thought I even bothered scuba diving), abselling, rock climbing, orienteering and camping. Its safe to say, I'm an indoors sort of a girl. 🤣

Also - To the poster with the skiwanker ex, I hope he gets caught in an avalanche. Not one that hurts him. Just one that gets him stuck for a few days.

simpsonthecat · 09/02/2026 12:23

Yes to ski-ing, I was young and fit but completely unable to even do a snow plough. A group of us were in the most beautiful place in Switzerland but the ski instructors just shouted and yelled at me continually, never again

Used to love snorkelling but on a trip to Asia got taken in a group into a cave where my head was not far from the roof and I had a total panic attack. I need to try snorkelling again, hope I'm not put off.

AllPlayedOut · 09/02/2026 12:23

Camping. I’d rather go without a holiday for the rest of my life than go camping ever again.

Dollymylove · 09/02/2026 12:23

A large ferris wheel at Disney california. It had cages , some swayed and some were static. It looked so innocuous as it swept slowly and majestically round. My son and I made the mistake of sitting in one of the swaying cages. Within a couple of minutes we both felt so nauseous and desperate to get off. It went round so slowly it was absolute torture!!

Failedcrunchymum · 09/02/2026 12:23

Smalec
Aloe Vera juice
Clubbing (slightly more than once but only a handful of times and each time I only went because I thought I might learn to stop hating every minute of it).

PeterPiperuppedsticks · 09/02/2026 12:23

This has cheered me up!

I have never experienced sky diving, bungee jumping, caving or potholing....I find the mere thought of these things absolutely terrifying.

I have done skiing a few times and hated it to be honest, Go Ape once and never again, abseiling/climbing once and never again and also paddle boarding once and never again either!!

I'm another who ordered Andouille in France and nearly died at the smell!! Revolting.

There's another that I have forgotten....

FaceEatingLeopard · 09/02/2026 12:25

Exercise

Hoovering

Ironing

Salad

Keto

I’ll stop there or we’ll be here all day 😂

thisoldcity · 09/02/2026 12:25

Caving, definitely! I was an additional adult taking a school trip of 14 year olds, so I thought it would be an easy little trot through some caves, but we did something horrific they called an 'envelope' which was crawling on your belly through a very long slot of cave, then a 'chimney' with a twist in it which was very very narrow. I had to bring up the rear, make sure they all through okay, and one had a real panic attack about it (can't blame her) and I thought we'd never get out. I felt proud I'd managed it, but never again...

Goldfsh · 09/02/2026 12:25

Jumped off a high ropes via the 'controlled release' rope thingy. I knew I didn't particularly fancy it but thought 'how bad can it be?'. I genuinely thought I'd have a heart attack. No thank you!!

Usernamedulychanged · 09/02/2026 12:26

This is all really encouraging to hear! I’ve either tried these things and hated them (skiing, lsd), or thought I’d probably hate them (bunjee jumping, caving). They’re often sold to us as badges of ‘living your best life’. In fact they are mostly terrifying / shit. Using this thread as validation to banish any residual fomo / feelings of inadequacy!

Rhubarbandgooseburycrumble · 09/02/2026 12:26

Zumba, don’t know if it was the instructor that was shite but I didn’t to see the attraction to it, thought it was total rubbish.

Static line parachute jump but I’d do a tandom.

Hope to god I never have to go to a hen do again or a baby shower. I will be conveniently working unless it’s my nieces. I adore them and I’d do anything they wanted me to do.

babyproblems · 09/02/2026 12:26

Gliding.

IT WAS HELL IN THE SKY. I have never ever felt so nauseous in my life. I thought my brain would fall out of my ears and i would vomit myself inside out.

I wouldn’t do it again if you paid me a million pounds!!!

Tupperwarelid · 09/02/2026 12:26

Camping - needed a wee the minute I got in my sleeping bag. Like the previous poster I would rather go without a holiday than camp.

Also did a baby Go Ape course at a Centre Parcs, must have only been about 5 foot off the ground but I was still terrified. Made me realise I could never do the adult size one. My children thought it was hilarious.

thisoldcity · 09/02/2026 12:26

Also aerobics classes, aloe vera juice, squid, roller coasters, skiing.

mondaytosunday · 09/02/2026 12:27

I went white water rafting near Santa Fe. Late (or early) in the season so levels were lower so the water faster and while I’m glad I can say I did it, it was terrifying. Made worse by the fact my younger sister was in front of me and I was stressed out that she might fall out. Our friend fell out twice - yikes! Someone had died (solo rafting) the week before. The guides were great and it was thrilling but never ever again.

TerrorAustralis · 09/02/2026 12:27

Going on a cruise. Did it once, never again.

wishingonastar101 · 09/02/2026 12:27

Ice Skating... had to hold on to my child who was holding one of those penguins.

DramaAlpaca · 09/02/2026 12:28

Skiing - spent most of the school ski trip trying to avoid it.
Abseiling - it took the instructor half an hour to coax me over the edge.
Going down a mine shaft on a guided tour - I got claustrophobic and had to be guided out Blush
Rollercoasters. I decided many years ago I don't do them.
The Leaning Tower of Pisa - had a panic attack because it wasn't just high, it wasn't level Confused

An adrenaline junkie I quite clearly am not.

That sounds absolutely horrific.

I thought anal would have been mentioned by now.

I didn't find the thread quickly enough.

Going on a cruise. Did it once, never again.

Ooh interesting. I've never fancied it at all but I only ever hear people saying they are wonderful, you'd love it. What did you not like?

TheBitterBoy · 09/02/2026 12:29

Loveapineapplepizzame · 09/02/2026 12:22

Helicopter ride. I was mid teens and it was 30 years ago. I shudder now thinking about the safety of it and the fact my parents were unaware I was in it as I had been out on a day trip with family friends.

I was just going to add helicopter ride. We did a flight on our honeymoon in Hawaii, the company we used actually advertised itself as the only company that had had no crashes on that island, which weirdly wasn't that reassuring. I was so scared I could barely look out the window even though the sights were stunning. Never again.

Similar to many I won't be skiing again. DH is a great skier, has been since childhood. I honestly think trying to learn in my 30s, post parenthood, I was just too scared to enjoy it or get any better

bumphousebump · 09/02/2026 12:30

Malta.

Suba diving - it was an hour of claustrobhobic awfullness. I'll never do it again.

BiscoffCheesecakes · 09/02/2026 12:30

raspberets · 09/02/2026 12:10

You’ve articulated that so well! I’d also hate it.

Thank you. I've told this story many times over the years so maybe I've fine tuned it to make it sound as awful as it really was

Lararoft · 09/02/2026 12:30

Horse riding. Tried it in Mallorca and had to be helped on & off the horse. My horse fell out with the one in front and got quite feisty. Scary.

Dodgy fairground rides. There was a particular one where I felt I was going to die. Not been on one since.

Wild camping - tried it with the Guides age 10 - one night of extreme discomfort put me off for good.
Basically I had a sleeping bag on the hard ground in a bell tent packed with 9 other girls, no room to even roll over. We had a bowl of water on a homemade stand to wash with. Basic af.
