Tried it once ...... never again!!

Just caught a bit of the Winter Olympics on TV and was reminded of the one and only time I tried skiing. It was one of the worst and most terrifying experiences of my life and I will definitely not, never, ever be doing it again!!

Ditto, my only experience of scuba diving .... still having nightmares years later!!!!!

Both these activities are on my "Tried it once but never again" list. Anyone else got a Never Again experience?

Any Big Ride at theme parks. I went on one that from the ground looked ok and ds1 was allowed on with me so how bad could it be? Fucking shocking is what.Centrifugal force my arse.I thought we were going to be thrown off. I was screaming for them to stop it(we were the only ones on it). I came off crying and shouted at the youth running it. He laughed in my face. DH had to stop me punching him on the nose.(I'm not a violent person) I believe there were other complaints and safety was bumped up after.

A big roller coaster. It hurt my neck and I was petrified and nauseous.

I’ve hated rollercoasters ever since I was a child.

As for potholing, how anyone can do that is beyond me. Ditto bungee jumping, but at least that wouldn’t be so utterly claustrophobic.

Not quite so bad, but parasailing. Only did it because dds were calling me chicken for not wanting to. Shot up 180 feet or whatever it was in the air, and the rope attached to the boat kept jerking. I thought it was going to break, and I’d be drifting up into the stratosphere, to be found dead 100 miles away a month later. If not already eaten by sharks…

Oh yes! And cannabis brownie in Thailand. Became completely paranoid, convinced I would fall off my balcony into the sea ( the sea was about 200 metres down the road….) and barricaded myself into the bedroom with my suitcase against the door

Cannabis

Yep. Right with you there. Made me absolutely paranoid. Never again !!

Abseiling. It was bloody terrifying. Kids in front of me disappearing over the edge with no fear. The instructor had to hold my hand to get me started as I started crying trying to do it myself. I think because it looked so easy I assumed I could just hoist myself over & then I'd bounce down in a few seconds. In reality the getting started was the worst bit & after that it was about half an hour feeding the rope through & walking my feet down at a snail's pace, all the while trying not to look down & wondering when the whole torturous episode would be over

You’ve articulated that so well! I’d also hate it.

Going to a festival. Lots of people, unclean and inconvenient.

BertSymptom · 09/02/2026 12:12

Surfing. Tried it once…. never again.

Except I did try it a second time because I didn’t want to rule something out for life after just one bad experience and lets just say now I’ll happily rule anything and everything out for life after just one bad experience.

Now you mention it 😳😱😮

🤣😂🤣

Oh I’m so pleased to read that others hated skiing too! I just could not do it, and hated every second of it. I was refunded for ski school because I couldn’t even snowplough after 2 days - my legs were jelly. My BF at the time (black run wanker) was so very disappointed in my proficiency that he shagged someone else whilst still on the skiing holiday with me” so I still tend to swerve skiers because of PTSD-esque vibes.

I also took a couple of my DS’ Ritalin and absolutely powered through about a month of my work before they wore off. Not sure whether that means I have ADHD or am just very responsive to amphetamines, but I still think it’s best that I don’t go there again…

Andouillette. Ordered by mistake in Paris. Smells like actual shit.

JaneIves · 09/02/2026 12:14

Zumba. Hated it.
Give me a few vodkas and some great tunes and I’m the best dancer, put me in a room for Zumba, I’m like a 5 legged elephant.

Reiki, complete waste of money, I could have had a massage instead!

Hiking on a glacier. It seemed like an amazing idea at the time whilst travelling but 5 minutes in and I was freaking the fuck out. I ended up at the front with the instructor/guide who managed to calm me down 😂 I was eternally embarrassed!!

KimberleyClark · 09/02/2026 12:17

The overnight train from Sydney to Melbourne.

Elphamouche · 09/02/2026 12:17

Quad biking. Thought it would be great fun. Fucking HATED it. Never again.

RaraRachael · 09/02/2026 12:17

Spin class. I was persuaded to go along by my daughter. It was the longest 45 minutes of my life - spent mainly watching the clock and willing it to end. The instructor said to just do what we could - which was basically nothing! The rest of the class were going hell for leather, heads down, pedalling away.

I've never felt so inadequate in all my life. Needless to say we never returned.

Tillow4ever · 09/02/2026 12:17

I tried scuba diving twice before saying never again. My husband loves it, so I thought I’d give it a try. First time I enjoyed it. The second time they didn’t put enough weights in my weight belt so I kept rising up and was fighting to stay in the right place the whole time. I also lost one of my earrings on that trip. Anyway, that night the whole thing had made me feel so unwell I was throwing up for hours. I decided I was happy for him to go do that on his own in future.

I had said never again to camping years ago, but ended up going again when I went to a festival with friends and surprised myself to be enjoying the camping aspect. So now I’m more inclined to give things a second chance if I tried when much younger as I’ve changed over the years, so makes sense that my interests have too.

100% this. OMG cant believe people enjoy this and my nether regions were aching for a week. Never again!!!

IAmTheStreets · 09/02/2026 12:20

Sup boarding, hatedddd it! Also not a great fan of skiing either.

Jaq27 · 09/02/2026 12:21

Laser Quest.
Had to go with a bunch of macho men as my (male-dominated) work organised a 'Christmas' night out.
Didn't understand the rules or what/who I was supposed to be shooting at.
Hated running around in the noisy darkness so mostly hid behind a pillar for an hour.
At the end of the session the instructor read out the scores and said how rubbish was in front of the whole team.
Not fun. No.

Flying in a light aircraft, it was a sightseeing trip on holiday, I felt so sick and it was very noisy and bouncy. I have been OK in a small helicopter though.

DH insisted on doing this in Alaska, I was petrified. Then to add insult to injury, he puked all down my back as we swooped through a national park. I was unsympathetic and turned the air blue, not realizing that everyone in the plane could hear me calling him a stupid fucker through their headphones. 😂

He also puked on a sea plane in the Maldives, but I’d planned ahead - gave him a bag ahead of time and pretended not to know him when he started blowing chunks.

Loveapineapplepizzame · 09/02/2026 12:22

Helicopter ride. I was mid teens and it was 30 years ago. I shudder now thinking about the safety of it and the fact my parents were unaware I was in it as I had been out on a day trip with family friends.

Justgorgeous · 09/02/2026 12:22

Parachute jump. Someone I knew of died as everthing got tangled. He had done well over 200 solo jumps so was experienced.
