Tried it once ...... never again!!

Just caught a bit of the Winter Olympics on TV and was reminded of the one and only time I tried skiing. It was one of the worst and most terrifying experiences of my life and I will definitely not, never, ever be doing it again!!

Ditto, my only experience of scuba diving .... still having nightmares years later!!!!!

Both these activities are on my "Tried it once but never again" list. Anyone else got a Never Again experience?

Another one for whitewater rafting.

Also Disneyland Paris. A very expensive, grim day in my life I shall never get back.

in the same category, CenterParcs, except that it was a three day sentence from which I could not escape. Top of the awfulness, even worse than the dank verucca-plaster-and-wee-ridden soup of the pool, was a kind of ropes course where you had to climb up a swaying pole and stand on a tiny platform on the top.

Also, rugby. Looks so fun on TV but in real life when you are doing it, it’s terrifying and very uncomfortable. Not doing that again.

Finally, Turkey. Spent the whole time being sicker than a dog, Never been back.

Before anyone writes me off as a wimp, however, I must point out that I started skiing as an adult and I actually really like it.

thisoldcity · 09/02/2026 23:06

@GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHERinteresting you said that about cruises as I've always sort of felt that would be true.

LindorDoubleChoc · 09/02/2026 23:07

Having my eyebrows threaded. I was expecting it to smart a bit - but not be like actual torture with accompanying ripping sounds. It was all I could do not to wrestle the threading lady off me and run away.

PleaseStopEatingMyStuff · 09/02/2026 23:09

Swimming with sharks. Stupid idea. I somehow forgot how to swim properly. Spent the whole time clinging to a net trying not to drown, convinced I was about to be pulled under Jaws style.
Never again.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 09/02/2026 23:18

Fanny wax.

Utter agony which left me with something that resembled a Hitler moustache on my nether regions, and ingrown hairs.

What’s worse is I had it done locally, so I have to see the woman who vandalised my lady garden from time to time. Mortifying.

Segway.

Got told during the tutorial it was impossible to run yourself over as they have an automatic stop if you fall off.

No points for guessing who managed to keep one foot on when falling, thus preventing the auto-stop and running myself over, causing a massive hematoma needing hospital treatment 🙈

NEVER again!

And the guy who invented them died by riding one off a cliff…..

I hate heights and confined places, I need to know I can get fresh air, and be on the ground. Many years ago, me, my now ex and young kids went to London. I hated the tube, but coped ok, then a few galleries, my thing, lunch in Covent Garden, lovely. 2 hours until the train home, and they all wanted to go on the London Eye. I said fine you go, I’ll just stay and watch. Stupid me, my kids insisted I went on, so I remember queuing, walking forward, and before I knew it I was in this glass cage, that I couldn’t get out of, hyperventilating, and moving up. I remember gripping the seat, and looking down, trying to breathe. Others were looking up, moving around, after it finished, I was shaking and sobbing. Bloody nightmare. Never ever again.

Water Skiing.
Thought my legs were get to rip apart.

Oh yes, me too! Looks like actual shit too. No idea why anyone would voluntarily eat it.

It seems there is andouillette and andouillette. DH loves it but for me eating a somewhat pungent sausage filled with what appear to be rubber bands is less than enticing.
But some are definitely better (or at least less smelly) than others.

Pianoaholic · 09/02/2026 23:26

@SpongeKnobNoPants your description of paintballing is hilarious- you should write their publicity so people know what it's really like!
My son went once and said there were groups of fully grown men taking it incredibly seriously!

And OH GOD YES!

CAMPING

I once spent one night under canvas, on the North Yorkshire Moors. The 'facilities' were a single bog with a tiny basin, a field and a half away. Fortunately I was young and had excellent bladder control. Unfortunately it was August, boiling hot in the day, freezing cold overnight. I went to bed sweaty because I needed a bath and woke up about 2am frozen to the marrow, scrabbled my knickers and t-shirt on (was wearing pjs) and went back to sleep. It was bloody awful.

Haha, I did camping only the once and had a similar hateful experience. Only difference was, I was not that young and knew I would need to go to the loo in the night and that the toilet block would be miles from the tent. I thought a she-wee would be the solution but was not very good at using it so basically wee’d all over my P-Js whilst lurking behind the tent. Also, the couple we went with decided to have a huge drunken row in their tent late at night and we could hear every word. It was an awkward breakfast the next morning.

Andouillette. Ordered by mistake in Paris. Smells like actual shit.

Yes! Had to ask the waiter to remove the plate- the smell made me gag.

Go Ape. Terrifying

Brings me out in a cold sweat thinking about the time I did this. I froze and had to be rescued 😆

Oh I’m so pleased to read that others hated skiing too! I just could not do it, and hated every second of it. I was refunded for ski school because I couldn’t even snowplough after 2 days - my legs were jelly. My BF at the time (black run wanker) was so very disappointed in my proficiency that he shagged someone else whilst still on the skiing holiday with me” so I still tend to swerve skiers because of PTSD-esque vibes.

I also took a couple of my DS’ Ritalin and absolutely powered through about a month of my work before they wore off. Not sure whether that means I have ADHD or am just very responsive to amphetamines, but I still think it’s best that I don’t go there again…

Absolutely hilarious, sorry but you’ve made my day . Husband going nuts coz I’m waking him up laughing my tits off at this post , he’s a black run wanker too 🤣

Me too

A 'friend'- convinced me to give it a go. I had been happily attached to my lady garden for 40+ years at this point.and never considered anything other than a trim.

It was EXCRUTIATING...so much so I insisted that the therapist stop and so i went home with a fandango that was half plucked chicken and half grizzly. Never ever ever again.

NormasArse · 09/02/2026 23:36

Euro Disney.

The most sinister place I’ve ever been. Thankfully it was only for one day, at the request of DD. Never again.

nowizewords · 09/02/2026 23:37

Ferris wheel - a big one!

Caving . Worst day of my life :)

I have nightmares about this 😬

Bloozie · 09/02/2026 23:48

A very big water slide.

It violated me. I genuinely feel lucky to still have a womb.

I've never been skiing but it's always been on my bucket list. After this thread I don't think I'm going to bother 😂

Imagine you are flat on your back, high on a steep and icy slope with two six foot long planks of wood irrevocably strapped to your feet which are encased in the most uncomfortable footwear ever.
On your hands are bulky, stiff gloves, and you are also clutching four foot long thin poles that you absolutely cannot let go of.

Can you get up? If the answer is no, do not go skiing, ever, you will hate it. I know of which I speak.

NotMeAtAll · 09/02/2026 23:50

Cardiac MRI. I never knew I was claustrophobic. If I ever need one again, I'm going to take lots of nice little tablets.

Bloozie · 09/02/2026 23:52

I already know that I would viscerally hate bungee jumping, helicopters, sky diving, caving, white water rafting, coasting, abseiling and Go Ape. I don’t need to even try those.

I did quite fancy scuba diving until I read this thread, so thanks for saving me the panic attack.

I went skiing once and while I was not very good at it, I quite enjoyed it.

snowboarding however… fucking ridiculous. Truly impossible to stay up, and also get up when down.

Paula20 · 09/02/2026 23:59

Yes......ice skating - never again!
