Tried it once ...... never again!!

Just caught a bit of the Winter Olympics on TV and was reminded of the one and only time I tried skiing. It was one of the worst and most terrifying experiences of my life and I will definitely not, never, ever be doing it again!!

Ditto, my only experience of scuba diving .... still having nightmares years later!!!!!

Both these activities are on my "Tried it once but never again" list. Anyone else got a Never Again experience?

DH insisted on doing this in Alaska, I was petrified. Then to add insult to injury, he puked all down my back as we swooped through a national park. I was unsympathetic and turned the air blue, not realizing that everyone in the plane could hear me calling him a stupid fucker through their headphones. 😂

He also puked on a sea plane in the Maldives, but I’d planned ahead - gave him a bag ahead of time and pretended not to know him when he started blowing chunks.

This is HYSTERICAL

I thought anal would have been mentioned by now.

My first thought was anal 😂😂😂 (never tried it but I imagine the phrase would fit)

Cocaine. (Well, twice.) It was too good, and given that it’s totally unethical, quite apart from its legality, I couldn’t risk it becoming a habit.

television hiding GIF by Channel 4

I secretly want to try some of the drugs just once, to know why people get addicted 👀

Sup boarding, hatedddd it! Also not a great fan of skiing either.

What is Sup Boarding?

LSD 50 odd years ago. Bloody hell that was an experience never to be repeated 🤯

What was it like ?! There were lots of experiments in 60s perhaps a bit before your time. I would never try as I’m too scared ( and now too old!)

Peachee · 09/02/2026 19:34

Skiing .. zorbing .. go ape!

all 3 diabolical!

Personally I loved an LSD tab or two but magic mushies not so much.
Went on a roller coaster on LSD that was interesting.

Caving is top of my “I will never ever try this” list. I break out in a cold sweat thinking about it. I was traumatised from reading the cave scene in the weird stone of brisingamen as a child.

So was I! Still am, if I think about it.

ColdWaterDipper · 09/02/2026 19:37

I absolutely love skiing and scuba diving! But u started skiing when I was 18 months so I’ve never not known it I suppose. The thing I tried once was going down the worlds longest tallest fastest enclosed slide - it was up some very tall tower. I didn’t want to do it in the first place as you had to get zipped into a sleeping bag thing and wear elbow pads and a helmet, but my children were desperate for me “not to miss out Mummy”. I hated every second of it adnshot out the bottom shouting “I hate thiiiiiiiissss”.

Grizelina · 09/02/2026 19:40

Cannabis 50+ years ago in a rollup being passed around. I was about 14 and wanted to appear cool! Coughed so much I nearly vomited. Second time I had it unknowingly after accepting the Chefs special chicken on a beach holiday in Jamaica. DH told me not to eat it but I ignored him. 30 minutes later had to be assisted from my sunbed to our room where I spent the afternoon wishing the room would stop going around!

A raw oyster - went down, gagged and up it came. Revolting salty slime 🤮

ItsAJourney · 09/02/2026 19:42

Its got to be a butterfly farm for me! Visited one once and it was terrifying. For some reason I did it a second time and was equally horrific. All the kids in there loving it while my husband and I were freaking out. Never again!

TashaG · 09/02/2026 19:43

I love flying small aircraft and love nothing more than aerobatic flying!

Not doing any roller coasters though - that's too far for me!

Also camping - never doing that again - cold, wet, just horrible!

DramaAlpaca · 09/02/2026 19:43

I had to take DS, a preteen at the time, out of Newgrange when he started panicking.

He was just about managing to hold it together until someone else in the group, who loudly announced that she was pagan, asked the guide if the lights could be turned off for a few minutes so she could do her pagan thing.

I was quite glad to get out of there myself, tbh.

The under water bit? Yes. Feeling panicky just thinking about that.

I need a glass of wine.

I hated all the very big, fast young men pounding away

For a moment I thought that was in response to the people who mentioned anal.

This thread is absolutely hilarious 😆

choccytime · 09/02/2026 19:50

Going up York Minster right to the top there was a sign at the bottom saying if you re scared of heights don't go up (obviously) . So its a spiral staircase built into the wall in the corner , so we all went up soon as we got to the top a woman started to have a panic attack . We were all told to go back down and my back went on the way down , I had to see a chiropracter the following day to sort me out🙄

Iwanttogobacktobed · 09/02/2026 19:51

Ive done most of things here skiing/snowboarding/go ape/scuba diving/abseiling/windsufing/bunjee jumping/hiking glaciers/canyoing etc. All have been not a problem at all, im quite sporty and like a challenge.

I did go caving once though where we had to wriggle like worms through these tiny tunnels, I was panicking like fuck and thought i was going to suffocate and die.

I will NEVER EVER do that again.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 09/02/2026 19:51

And OH GOD YES!

CAMPING

I once spent one night under canvas, on the North Yorkshire Moors. The 'facilities' were a single bog with a tiny basin, a field and a half away. Fortunately I was young and had excellent bladder control. Unfortunately it was August, boiling hot in the day, freezing cold overnight. I went to bed sweaty because I needed a bath and woke up about 2am frozen to the marrow, scrabbled my knickers and t-shirt on (was wearing pjs) and went back to sleep. It was bloody awful.

Cocaine is invigorating, a bit like a drinking a double espresso while having a cold shower. It also turns you into an utterly tedious wanker who nevertheless thinks you're the most interesting person in the room.

But above everything else, by far, is the very strong feeling of "go on, have some more". I only ever had it once and the force of the desire for more was genuinely scary.

AutumnChild99 · 09/02/2026 19:53

Music festivals. I was 17. We slept in a tent and the loos and showers were disgusting, I was traumatised. Because of this I'd never try camping.

VoltaireMittyDream · 09/02/2026 19:55

CrossFit.

Foolishly believed the hype that it’s a super friendly community, emphasising proper technique and meeting everyone where they are.

Ten minutes into my first class a terrifying drill sergeant type woman with biceps like rugby balls started hollering at me to jump onto a massive box that looked about 3 feet high.

I tried weakly to raise the issue that my legs were quite short and the box was quite tall and I wasn’t sure about the physics of it all but she just kept screaming at me to believe in myself.

She was really hyping me up and soon everyone in the gym was clapping and cheering me on, and I thought, well, I guess this is that friendly supportive community everyone talks about, and maybe with the right mindset and this kind of encouragement I really can unlock a whole new level of strength and potential I never knew I had.

And also I couldn’t see how I could get out of it now everyone was looking at me. So I flung myself at the box, knocked it over, landed on my face and broke a wrist and a rib.

Never again!

Shamesame · 09/02/2026 19:57

caving and potholing sound like an actual hell. I don’t need to do them once to know I’d hate it.

magic mushroom infused chocolate. For some reason the psychotropic element when mixed with alcohol made me feel so incredibly sick I couldn’t stand up for the next 24 hours without vomiting.

000ForFucksSake000 · 09/02/2026 19:57

Horse riding. Moody fucker threw me off!

You’ve thoroughly made my evening.I laughed al through reading this. You should write. You describe things so well.

In third place Drug free ( not even a paracetamol) childbirth.

In second place Eating Frogs legs.

In first place...a fairground ride where you are in a drum that spins you very fast so that you stick to the sides whilst the floor drops away. I was not right for days.

Quite happy with a bit of caving tho.
