Tried it once ...... never again!!

Just caught a bit of the Winter Olympics on TV and was reminded of the one and only time I tried skiing. It was one of the worst and most terrifying experiences of my life and I will definitely not, never, ever be doing it again!!

Ditto, my only experience of scuba diving .... still having nightmares years later!!!!!

Both these activities are on my "Tried it once but never again" list. Anyone else got a Never Again experience?

Centre Parcs. Never, ever again will I be persuaded to go. It is the sanitised countryside with handrails. I hate cycling, and managed to crash my bike into DHs because he stopped as we were going uphill, and I couldn't stop because my pedals were in the wrong position! I hate swimming and the lazy river was like white water rapids for me. I got stuck in a whirl pool and young DS hauled me out. In the end I left the family to it, and drank lots of wine.

Oh I like octopus, with garlic and herb butter sauce.

Aw no 😢 They are very intelligent and since finding that out I won’t eat it.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 09/02/2026 15:53

Driving. I failed my test once and never retook it. I was rubbish.

HUNGRY4MORE · 09/02/2026 15:55

There's also a German cheese I tried, which made me feel sick. Not sure why the smell didn't put me off, but I wish it had 🤣. It's called Herzer Kase. Never again!

AleaEim · 09/02/2026 15:56

Salsa dancing class, it was just so awkward dancing alongside someone else and cringe. I couldn’t keep up.

I tried go ape, the children’s one, so terrifying. Skiing wouldn’t interest me at all.

Segway.

Got told during the tutorial it was impossible to run yourself over as they have an automatic stop if you fall off.

No points for guessing who managed to keep one foot on when falling, thus preventing the auto-stop and running myself over, causing a massive hematoma needing hospital treatment 🙈

NEVER again!

The man who invented the Segway died by the Segway. He accidently went over a cliff edge on one 😧

Abseiling and anal sex. Yes I said it!

I guess one would take your mind off the other

Many years ago (l was in my early twenties) we went on a girls night out to a supposedly very popular club/nightspot.
Heading the bill was a band that had been fairly big in the sixties (yes, l'm old).
About halfway through the evening music started, l thought (mistakenly as it turned out) it must be the band coming on.
No. Male strippers. I'm about as far from a prude as it's possible to get, but if l'm going to look at a willy l prefer it just to be me and the person it's attached to, in private.
As soon as the penny dropped what was going on, l grabbed my bag and my drink and fled to the loos. My friends couldn't believe it, they all thought it was just a laugh, but l was beyond embarrassed.
Never heard the end of it for a very long time. It was awful, though.

Eiffel Tower. I screamed and cried like a baby all the way to the top then walked down. I guess I’m scared of heights and don’t trust industrial age engineering.

I only managed about a quarter way up. I couldn’t even get to the top of the one in Las Vegas 😂

Oh God! Further confirmation they are the most demonic form of transport!

Went to Moldova. There is absolutely nothing to recommend it, except maybe the wine.

Poetic justice! (I don’t mean it, poor guy).

Wild swimming in Loch Ness. The horror.

I tried scuba diving twice before saying never again. My husband loves it, so I thought I’d give it a try. First time I enjoyed it. The second time they didn’t put enough weights in my weight belt so I kept rising up and was fighting to stay in the right place the whole time. I also lost one of my earrings on that trip. Anyway, that night the whole thing had made me feel so unwell I was throwing up for hours. I decided I was happy for him to go do that on his own in future.

I had said never again to camping years ago, but ended up going again when I went to a festival with friends and surprised myself to be enjoying the camping aspect. So now I’m more inclined to give things a second chance if I tried when much younger as I’ve changed over the years, so makes sense that my interests have too.

This sounds like you got decompression sickness - bloomin' dangerous!

gruit · 09/02/2026 16:02

ice skating. Freezing cold and terrifying. Never again.
And cannabis. Tried it once and had the worst attack of extreme paranoia and panic, was convinced I was dying.

Solitario · 09/02/2026 16:03

Drugs.

I tried a couple of puffs of cannabis offered to me by a musician I was dating. I felt very sick, detached and actually turned green. Never again. I hadn't had any exposure to drugs before that. I was 16 - more years ago now than I'm willing to admit to - and I've avoided drugs ever since. I thought he was cool, everyone else there was older and smoking it, I wanted to fit in and not be seen as a kid, you know the sort of situation.

Mauvish1 · 09/02/2026 16:03

Crib Goch (Snowdon). I was only there because the exceedingly stupid now-ex couldn't map read but was determined he wasn't going to let me do it (he couldn't bear the idea that anyone might be better than him at anything). We should have been a different track!

The weather was horrible and the valley on one side of the ridge was full of mist, so full that the mist literally was rolling over our feet and completely obliterating the view on that side of the ridge, all I could see was this grey boiling cloud at foot level. It was like walking on the very thin rim of a bottomless Cauldron of Hell.

I made the mistake at one point of steadying myself with a handhold then couldn't bring myself to let go. So I was stuck until a kind stranger talked me through the panic. I was actually so scared that I threw up (only a tiny bit and I had to swallow it back down!)

So I haven't tried striding edge, and don't plan to.

Topseyt123 · 09/02/2026 16:04

Rollercoasters. I did the Big Dipper in Blackpool once. Hated it.

That should have been my first and last time on a big rollercoaster but I was stupid enough to agree to try Space Mountain at Disneyland Los Angeles. It was terrifying and totally traumatic. I should have left at one of the exits in the queue where they give you the opportunity but I told myself it would be fine. It wasn't. I was sure I was going to die. Never, ever again.

I now refuse to go on any rollercoasters or white knuckle rides.

I love watching the Winter Olympics but some of the camera shots out of the gate of the ski jumps, the starts of the downhill races etc. look totally terrifying in themselves. Like they are throwing themselves down an icy cliff.

TheMerryJoker · 09/02/2026 16:04

ice skating, went down like a lead ballon, yet the film long kiss goodnight made it look so simple

Spin class. I was persuaded to go along by my daughter. It was the longest 45 minutes of my life - spent mainly watching the clock and willing it to end. The instructor said to just do what we could - which was basically nothing! The rest of the class were going hell for leather, heads down, pedalling away.

I've never felt so inadequate in all my life. Needless to say we never returned.

Yes, my one and only experience of a spin class was exactly like this.

I actually cycled a lot at the time, never understood why people in the class were able to pedal that fast!

I’d really like to know why it can make some people relaxed and chilled but others extremely anxious and paranoid. And some psychotic.

Far more reasonable than screaming in the Sistine Chapel...iykyk
