Tried it once ...... never again!!

Just caught a bit of the Winter Olympics on TV and was reminded of the one and only time I tried skiing. It was one of the worst and most terrifying experiences of my life and I will definitely not, never, ever be doing it again!!

Ditto, my only experience of scuba diving .... still having nightmares years later!!!!!

Both these activities are on my "Tried it once but never again" list. Anyone else got a Never Again experience?

The whispering gallery in St Pauls. I had a panic attack looking over the edge and was nearly sick. Had to be escorted down. I hate heights but have no problem looking out when flying.

Riding an elephant at the Red Ford in Agra. Never again. The swaying made me feel sick. Next time I took a jeep.

Speed & Coke - in my youth
stayed up all night and day
but my house has never been as clean since

Busybeemumm · 09/02/2026 15:07

Ice skating. Never again

oldtiredcyclist · 09/02/2026 15:08

Driving over the Pont de Normandie, did it in 2022, never again. I knew my vertigo was bad, but that was on another scale. My wife had to hold the steering wheel for me, I was shaking so much.

NagathaCrispy · 09/02/2026 15:09

Wow .... just popped back in and it seems you all have had some pretty awful experiences with things which are supposed to be "fun" ....

Those of you who have tried pot-holing/caving, that's a definite NO from me - I get claustrophobic in a lift. Glad we all survived!

Abseiling and anal sex. Yes I said it!

Horse riding. My horse was horrible and cruel and I was constipated for 2 weeks after and had to be prescribed a laxative by doctor for first time in my life and partly pooed on kitchen floor because I couldn't make it to bathroom in time

Closely followed by (and I have mentioned this before on here) the 'real life Coronation Street experience'. Kevin Webster swore and threw a spanner at me

Edited

Why did the horse give you constipation?
See above for my horse experience -but it def didn’t result in any bowel issues.
and omg re Kevin!!

It does make me question the fun aspect! Great thread.

Laser Quest was one that surprised me. Turns out I'm really good at shooting at a lot of 12 year old kids and it was quite fun. I got a very respectable score.

Perhaps a good one for teachers 😅

no thankfully!

caramac04 · 09/02/2026 15:14

Attempted to climb very old, stone, spiral steps to get to the top of the tower. Felt so insecure that a third of the way up where there was a small stopping place, I stayed (stupid, why didn’t I go back down?) and waited for the rest of my party - along with another wuss.
i was even terrified coming down until a family member gripped my arm and firmly took me down.
Decades later I won’t try anything like that. Ditto to never trying skiing, pot holing, scuba diving etc. just a complete wuss

JennyChawleigh · 09/02/2026 15:16

Hellvellyn via Striding Edge. Been up from Thirlmere several times but thought we should do it the hard way once. It was a sunny, dry, day (would have been even more terrifying if the stones were wet underfoot) a queue of people behind and the woman in front of me was having a panic attack and having to be coaxed on by her partner. There also seemed to be some sort of mountain rescue going on just below, as if someone had fallen.

Nosejobnelly · 09/02/2026 15:16

Spin as well - I was in my 20s and nearly died so would probably expire now if I did it. I’d rather sit on my arse thanks!

MinnieMountain · 09/02/2026 15:17

The handy thing about my not liking skiing is that DH is taking DS on a skiing holiday without me on Friday 😁

I completely agree that caving is horrible.

Because when no one was looking he went into bucking movement and my behind was black and blue come the end

Me too. I've done a ton of miles on motorbikes but quad bikes were so different that all my reactions were off. Plus I couldn't get out of the habit of putting my foot down when coming to a stop. Horrible things.

I'll raise your "never fucking quad biking again" with "Quad Biking in an Egyptian desert on an excursion, at night time, where the host abandoned us and a local tribesman tried to ram me and my friend off our bikes". Not being able to drive and control the damn thing was definitely a hindrance to escaping, somehow we did.

Anything involving deep water - that involves going into the sea, never again. I can't even jump into the deep end of a swimming pool.

Climbing up hills - that's the easy bit, it's the getting down. I once tried to get down Thorpe Cloud in the peak district, and it was that steep that I started running, lost control due to how fast I was going and rolled all the way down. Fucking scary as fuck, painful and not to mention embarrassing.

Snowboarding - not tried skiing either so I don’t know why I decided to start with the harder one. Traded a week of group lessons for one hour of 1:1 and I still couldn’t snowboard at the end of it. Just awful. I think you need a very strong core if you’re starting as an adult.

I went up as a companion to bungee jumper. I felt sick just being at that height, there’s no way I would do it.

The crafty little sod! Why did Kevin do that?

Exactly this actually.

Yeh I get this one. 30 years ago. Never touched it since but fuck me we had a great time

twilightcafe · 09/02/2026 15:25

Andouilette: cat food in sausage skin.
Skiing: I am not paying to be cold and scared.
Go Ape: Footage exists of me screaming in pure terror on the Jacob's ladder swing.

steepdreams · 09/02/2026 15:25

Swimming with whale sharks. Jumping off the side of a boat into the dark choppy open ocean was terrifying. Looking down and seeing a fish the size of bus swimming at me while floating there helpless was the stuff of nightmares

UnderThePressure · 09/02/2026 15:26

Ice skating, tried it once, fell over, vowed never again.
Trampolining, fell off, injured my coccyx, vowed never again.
Driving, tried it twice, (just to make sure), hated it both times, vowed never again and I would always be a passenger princess
I have absolutely have no spatial awareness and can fall over/slip on/bump into nothing 😩
