Tried it once ...... never again!!

Just caught a bit of the Winter Olympics on TV and was reminded of the one and only time I tried skiing. It was one of the worst and most terrifying experiences of my life and I will definitely not, never, ever be doing it again!!

Ditto, my only experience of scuba diving .... still having nightmares years later!!!!!

Both these activities are on my "Tried it once but never again" list. Anyone else got a Never Again experience?

Snorkeling (I hate deep water)
Kayaking (the fear of rolling over)
Ice skating/roller skating (I hate feeling unbalanced)

Never been, but my idea of pure hell is pot holing/caving. Too many true horror stories

Edited

Agree about the caving. Having read about the Nutty Putty I think anyone who does this is genuinely certifiable.

Jumped off a high ropes via the 'controlled release' rope thingy. I knew I didn't particularly fancy it but thought 'how bad can it be?'. I genuinely thought I'd have a heart attack. No thank you!!

My middle child jumped off a high ropes course to check if his harness would work…

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 09/02/2026 14:23

A gong sound bath. Not my cup of tea. I was supposed to think of nothing and relax. Instead I felt on edge (the sound was not for me - I need something lighter) and my mind was reeling off a list of things I needed to do...At least I was lying down with an eye mask on.

3peassuit · 09/02/2026 14:24

Tripe and eels. Ate it to not offend my hosts but never ever again,

HurdyGurdy19 · 09/02/2026 14:25

A football match. Our local team. At Wembley Stadium (the original) and they won. A big match, apparently. Will never go to another.

Bubble Tea. Granddaughter let me try a sop of hers. Only time in my life that I have literally spat something out in public (into my hand)

maras2 · 09/02/2026 14:25

Bum sex, 1974.
EEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWW
Never again.

Ann Summers parties. I'm no prude but I'm very private and I found it mortifyingly embarrassing. I messaged DH to call me with a fake emergency and left before it properly got started.

My idea of HELL.

Plinketyplonks · 09/02/2026 14:25

Surfing. I didn’t like getting tumbled by the waves and whacked on the head by the surfboard, plus the surfer’s snotty nose etc

MissSpindle · 09/02/2026 14:27

Glamping.

We stayed in a "luxury" pod attached to a B&B in the Lake District but it just felt like we were staying in a glorified shed in a car park.

Riding a camel 🐪
It was incredibly painful, literally excruciating.
i ached everywhere and had terrible chafing.
Never EVER to be repeated.

Yes this is also one for me. I have ridden a horse so I stupidly thought it would be along the same lines. It was not. I felt like I was constantly slipping and that I was going to fall. I cried with relief when it was over 😬

spring1979 · 09/02/2026 14:29

Spin class I nearly took off

RunsABit · 09/02/2026 14:31

Acupuncture

I've had an adult lifetime of surfing, snowboarding and mountain biking with fewer times of abseiling, climbing, caving, paragliding, gorge walking, white water rafting and skydiving.

I'd do them all again in a heartbeat, but I will never have acupuncture ever again - made me feel dizzy, nauseous and incredibly emotional.

TinaTwinkleToes · 09/02/2026 14:32

No one has said childbirth??

I thought anal would have been mentioned by now.

It's a pain in the arse🤣

BasilThePlant · 09/02/2026 14:33

Came on to say zip lining but googled Go Ape to see what that was first and afaics that is zip lining???

Anyway I only went on the zip line because my 8 yo was too afraid to go alone. He was fine. I had to be rescued THREE times (short enough course) while my children and husband provided the background laugh track. I thought I was agile and fit enough but my info, it turned out, was 20 years out of date 😭.

SummerHouse · 09/02/2026 14:35

Thai massage
Turkish massage
Scuba
And the 'spin dizzy' at Diggerland

The spin dizzy was definitely the worst of those terrible four. My son didn't even go on. I was showing off how it wasn't so bad. It was so, so bad.

Oysters , no thank you

SPQRomanus · 09/02/2026 14:38

No one has said childbirth??

For the end result, I would do it again

Summersongroses · 09/02/2026 14:39

Kayaking. I liked the idea. But turns out it was not for me!

Tinatubby73 · 09/02/2026 14:42

Definitely skiing!!

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 09/02/2026 14:42

Quite a few fairground rides! My friend once persuaded me to go on a flying chairs type ride & I was absolutely petrified! It was pretty high & very fast! She was very apologetic afterwards!

IWantNiceNeighbours · 09/02/2026 11:41

Go Ape. Terrifying

Ditto - when you "fall" you need very good upper body strength to get back on, which I didn't have, and had to be "rescued".
Agree with OP re scuba diving too - I'm a confident swimmer so happy in water, above and below, but there's something unnatural about jumping in the sea with a big heavy tank on your back. I had to be pushed off the boat by the Turkish instructor.
Lychee - like eating peeled testicles.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 09/02/2026 14:43

I wish I hadn’t googled the Nutty Putty. That’s going to give me nightmares.

DramaAlpaca · 09/02/2026 14:43

The camels have reminded me of another. I haven't ridden on a camel, I don't do camels - horrid, smelly creatures, but I did go on an elephant safari in India. Never again, the seat swayed and wobbled so much I was sure I was going to fall off. Obviously there are no seat belts on an elephant and it would've been a long tumble to the ground. I was terrified.
