Tried it once ...... never again!!

Just caught a bit of the Winter Olympics on TV and was reminded of the one and only time I tried skiing. It was one of the worst and most terrifying experiences of my life and I will definitely not, never, ever be doing it again!!

Ditto, my only experience of scuba diving .... still having nightmares years later!!!!!

Both these activities are on my "Tried it once but never again" list. Anyone else got a Never Again experience?

drugs
anything to do with water, such as water skiing, etc
bungee jumping
parachuting
ski ing
zip slides
yes I am cautious and boring but I have enough injuries and scars to last me without inviting danger

there's a little kiddie roller coaster at the fair near us. My DD 8 loves it, you can't pay me enough to go on it. It's worse than a big one, I think, the corners are so tight.

I didnt mind rollercoasters and we'd gone to hull fair one year (many years ago)

I'd said id do a ride each with the kids as long as the others stood in one spot and didnt move (they where young teens) until we'd got off-no wandering off

I'd just got off one ride with ds1 when ds2 tugged my arm and said he wanted to go on a ride with me

We where straight on,sat down, buckled in and waited the few minutes until it started

The fucker flew forward (going up and down at the same time) leaving my stomach behind-it was about a minute before it stopped

I'd just caught my breath when it flew backwards, leaving my head in one spot,my body flying backwards and the contents of my stomach on the floor

I've never been on a ride since-you couldn't pay me enough

It doesn't sound that bad,but it really was-it was the speed, the going up and down and then flying backwards that did it-it seemed to go on for a lifetime

(Of course the kids thought this was hilarious and had set their phones up to take as many photos as they could so my horrified, vomiting face ended up on fb)

Never ever again

I made a similar mistake at Hull Fair last year. I thought it would never end. I don’t know who was screaming more - me, or 6ft 5, 25 year old DS.

Egypt. Awful place.

Ann Summers parties. I'm no prude but I'm very private and I found it mortifyingly embarrassing. I messaged DH to call me with a fake emergency and left before it properly got started.

Preparing and cooking dog fish, aka huss or rock salmon. Dear God, the smell. I was retching constantly.

Eat a kebab. I had gastroenteritis from eating a dodgy one and 40 years later I can just about look at the meat turning on a spit.

You must be me on the kebab! Went on a work trip, spending time with my boss, and we ended up a few of us having a doner kebab late at night. I was literally throwing up all night and I have a strong stomach.

Caving. Signed up in the first week of uni in a moment of madness. Terrifying, cold, wet & dark.

I agree with caving. Awful. I've also since read loads of horror stories about long drawn out deaths in caves. Never again.

I didn't like diving either. I basically don't like being trapped under rock/water/things that could kill me.

Eating tarantula. Once was enough.

Eat lobster. I was sick after eating one - I don't know if it's the lobster's fault but I don't want to risk it.

Mum tried to get me to roller skate once. Nope.

Oh oh and getting married. Never ever again. Never.

That's what immediately occurred to me, and I'm surprised nobody mentioned it until the second page.

HellonHeels · 09/02/2026 13:35

London Eye. Trapped in a capsule with a very clearly disturbed man ranting and rambling to himself.

Grass skiing. Skiing, but covered in sheep poo whenever you fell over

Trapeze - never ever again.

Echobelly · 09/02/2026 13:35

DH being 'dominant' with me in bed - I was up for doing it but it just immediately upset me in a way that I hadn't at all expected (he wasn't being humiliating or cruel, just kind of commanding) so we stopped after less than 20 seconds!

CitehCitehCiteh · 09/02/2026 13:35

Camping… utterly hideous and the ensuing row ended our relationship.

Flying in a plane… hated it and spent the weeks holiday worrying about the return flight home. That was 43 years ago and I still feel the fear.

Moving house… I’ve only done it once in my life and hope to God I never have to again. Awful experience, from the snidey buyers to the vile, lying weasel of an estate agent.

I have two words to put most normal people off caving: Nutty Putty.

Chenecinquantecinq · 09/02/2026 13:37

Hydrocodone (given for minor issue on holiday in USA) and alcohol (didn't realise wasn't meant to mix as I was young) never ever felt so happy!! Would 100% become an addict I have never felt so relaxed and utterly calm since 😂

They don’t. They taste of pig’s arsehole. It’s a French macho national pride thing.

😱😱😱

Glad I've never tried them then. I can't imagine who would smell them and think 'yep, that's the dinner for me'.

I got to ask this…

Under what circumstances were you eating tarantula?? 😳

Are they a “delicacy” or something like that??

MarjorieWestriding · 09/02/2026 13:37

Space Mountain at Disney Land in California. Somehow I didn't realise it was a roller coaster and I hated every second. Ended up in a sort of foetal position, as much as I could manage anyway.

Being flown in a light aircraft which was so bumpy it was nauseating. The pilot was a friend of my dad's and I remember him cheerfully calling out 'Would you like to see a simulated engine failure?'. I shouted 'No!' and, thank fuck, he didn't do one.

I also tried cocaine once. It made me feel great but I could tell it was impairing my judgement as I was playing pool at the time. I was actually very good at pool, but missed every shot that day. It made into a complete twat. Never again.

brieongranary · 09/02/2026 13:39

• Riding as a passenger on a motorbike on the motorway.
• Any kind of rollercoaster/big dipper type thing.
• And, to my huge surprise (thought I'd be great and would love it), pottery session using a wheel. Horrific back ache. Couldn't wait for the afternoon to end.

Whatnameisif · 09/02/2026 13:40

Ooh thought of another one. Hot yoga. I actually did it three times because I'd foolishly signed up for a course. I did not complete the course.

I don't know what I was thinking - I hate yoga and saunas so hot yoga was always going to be awful to me.

They are a food in Cambodia. If they were chopped up and unrecognisable tbf they tasted OK, but the body popped like a cherry tomato 🤢

Vintageblueribbon · 09/02/2026 13:43

Camping-I did it for a night as a teenager

Nope,never again,not happening-i won't even think about glamping

Sleeping on the ground with only a thin bit of material over your head, cooking on a small flame, shitting behind a tree and not having access to a shower is not,and never will be my idea of fun

I cannot bear the smell/heat when its really hot and the tent has been zipped up all day

God knows how I produced dd1 who loves it and will set up her tent anywhere

BezMills · 09/02/2026 13:44

Frogs legs. I mean they tasted ok (fishy chicken) - but then most things do if coated in breadcrumbs and fried in garlic butter. But they are served bone-in and you end up with a little pile of kermit leg bones on the plate. Grim and kind of sad.
