Tried it once ...... never again!!

Just caught a bit of the Winter Olympics on TV and was reminded of the one and only time I tried skiing. It was one of the worst and most terrifying experiences of my life and I will definitely not, never, ever be doing it again!!

Ditto, my only experience of scuba diving .... still having nightmares years later!!!!!

Both these activities are on my "Tried it once but never again" list. Anyone else got a Never Again experience?

They are a food in Cambodia. If they were chopped up and unrecognisable tbf they tasted OK, but the body popped like a cherry tomato 🤢

That’s lunch ruined ( it involved cherry tomatoes🤮)
ill give them a miss, I think!

In the early 90s . Half an E tablet, split between my friend and I. Spent the night feeling like we were in a really bad mood, ended up with mouth ulcers and we were so paranoid we shared the toilet cubicle as we were too sacred to go in to one alone. Went to the same place a week later with no E and realised how utterly boring it and the music was. Never again.

Ice skating. Didn’t fall. Quit while I was ahead.

Pot holing/caving. Was made to go as a kid as part of a school trip despite telling the teachers I was feeling claustrophobic. (Good ol’ early 90s teaching!) Had a panic attack mid pot hole stuck behind another kid. Never, ever again. Ever.

Paint balling. Not terrifying or anything like that, just not very fun.

We had to do this in Primary 7 (Scotland) at a place called Fordell Firs. Bloody awful!

Lucyccfc68 · 09/02/2026 13:47

Magic mushrooms (at the age of 13). Had a horrendous trip and ended up in hospital having my stomach pumped.

Camping-I did it for a night as a teenager

Nope,never again,not happening-i won't even think about glamping

Sleeping on the ground with only a thin bit of material over your head, cooking on a small flame, shitting behind a tree and not having access to a shower is not,and never will be my idea of fun

I cannot bear the smell/heat when its really hot and the tent has been zipped up all day

God knows how I produced dd1 who loves it and will set up her tent anywhere

You sun it up so well!! 🙌

I had the opposite of the heat - torrential rain - everything was damp and manky smelling, including both of us, and the fall out from the miserable experience split us up.
Far too old for that nonsense now!

PrincessHoneysuckle · 09/02/2026 13:47

Kefir anything 🤢

Thumbtwiddler · 09/02/2026 13:47

Kamakaze water slide. Terrifying, and the wet farts that followed were nearly as scary.

Mum tried to get me to roller skate once. Nope.

I went roller skating once in my local theatre ballroom when I was 16.
I have zero sense of balance, even when just walking, I am diagnosed neurodivergent in other ways but I’m pretty sure I’m also dyspraxic. So skating was never going to work.

It ended after about five minutes when I lost control, grabbed one of the floor length curtains which surrounded the ballroom dance floor, and brought the whole thing crashing down. One of the skating supervisors had to pick me up off the floor and basically carry me to a seat.

he was quite cute as well and I was mortified.

Dog sledding. Did it once in the French Alps & never again.

A dozen huskies go at a hell of a pace and I was hanging on for grim death while balancing on a narrow ice covered wooden strut. Painful too because the powder snow flies up at great speed so it feels like your face is being sand blasted.

Disaster finally struck when we rounded a corner and crashed. I literally flew through the air like a cartoon character and, although uninjured, swore my sledding days were over. Loved the dogs though.

Also, mat pilates. Boring as all f**k, will never subject myself to such gnawing, unending tedium again. Weirdly, reformer pilates is fine; enjoyable, even.

Helicopter ride. I was mid teens and it was 30 years ago. I shudder now thinking about the safety of it and the fact my parents were unaware I was in it as I had been out on a day trip with family friends.

I was going to mention a helicopter ride too.
We were in our teens, it’s was in the late 1980s and our first holiday together, and we were staying with my now husband’s aunt who lived in a tourist area in the US. We decided to take a helicopter ride to see the main attraction from the air but when we got back and mentioned how we’d spent our time his cousin said he’d never do that because “those things are always crashing”.
I wasn’t really aware of the safety issues with them back then but no way would I go in one again.

ClawsandEffect · 09/02/2026 13:52

Also scuba diving. Simultaneous claustrophobia and acrophobia (fear of heights).

Roller coasters. Got off the only one I ever went on and vomited. Also terror.

Giving birth. I actually wish for death to end the torture.

Marriage. Hell no. 200% not for me.

Cannabis. Tried it a few times. Always makes me 1) sick 2) sleepy. It's wasted on me.

Ecstasy. Done it twice. First time, a very small dose was fine. 2nd time I was the sweating, water guzzling, eye popping stereotype. It was scary.

Those big swing boats you get at theme parks. Knew within seconds that it was a horrible mistake. Sobbed all the way through, begging them (anyone!) to make it stop. So sick and dizzy-making.

Go Ape. Terrifying

Same!!! Completely freaked out and embarrassed my kids 😂

Imdunfer · 09/02/2026 13:53

Solo parachute jump, so dangerous!

Kippers, so vile!

Papyrophile · 09/02/2026 13:55

Tripe!

JulieJo · 09/02/2026 13:57

Snorkeling. Tried it once on holiday, I was terrified there may be shark heading my way that I couldn't see. Never again.

Tripe!

We could make a separate thread for foodstuffs alone!

Haggis - traditional with these lovely ingredients

  • Firstly, the ox bung, which is the last metre of an ox’s intestine and like a very large sausage casing, is for stuffing the haggis into. Although you can use a pudding basin intead - see further down the article!
  • Secondly, coarse oatmeal or pinhead oats. These look very different to traditional porridge oats, and provide texture without going mushy.
  • Finally, there’s the ‘pluck’, or the heart, lungs, and liver of a lamb, often with a piece of windpipe intact, which gives the haggis its intense rich meaty flavour.

Yep, there's a big swingy pirate ship at Legoland windsor. Never going on that again. My daughter loved it.

Mangelwurzelfortea · 09/02/2026 14:00

Scuba diving. To be fair I tried it twice. Just not for me - too claustrophic and too high risk.

Magic mushrooms. I had a mad trip where I threw up, then thought I was flat (as in completely two-dimensional), then had a long discussion with Jimi Hendrix about his career in music. It was funny in hindsight but I am NOT doing that again. Although I wish I can remember what Jimi Hendrix told me!

Potholing/caving is my idea of literal hell on earth and I would never, ever try it. Plus watching The Descent scared the shit out of me,

I love skiing but am getting much more risk-averse it as I get older, which ironically makes me ski worse. Ah well.

London Eye. Had to sit in the middle bit with my eyes closed. Pathetic.

I started to have a panic attack in the queue for the London Eye as a teen, was practically bundled on by my mum and uncle, stayed in the middle on the seat trying not to look out of the windows while hyperventilating and crying.
There are photos somewhere to add to the humiliation

Kitte321 · 09/02/2026 14:01

Riding a camel 🐪
It was incredibly painful, literally excruciating.
i ached everywhere and had terrible chafing.
Never EVER to be repeated.

SansGonads · 09/02/2026 14:02

Paintball
Edited to add- yes, to PP's camel ride- I was absolutely terrified as had back end of big camel right in front of my camel- was convinced big guy would kick out at some point. During this same ride a lady had a panic attack while on her camel!!

GeorgeMichaelsCat · 09/02/2026 14:03
