What aspect of 'normal' life is alien to you?

By which I mean... what are the "normal" things of life you haven't yet done or experienced, compared to most people?

For me it's:

Driving, I'm hopeless, just can't get it
I've never been to a club
Anything to do with babies
In-laws
A properly "senior" job

Smoking.
Riding a bike.
Children.
Using a microwave (never done it).
Watching reality TV.
And...of course..... I've never seen Star Wars!

RampantIvy · 08/02/2026 22:20

I don't watch soap operas or reality TV, and I have never watched Traitors. Does that count?

I realise that it makes me sound like a crashing snob, but I'm happy to own it 😁

justfindingmyway · 08/02/2026 22:23

Watching friends

Loving the film ‘dirty dancing’

Driving on motorways

Enjoying the smell of babies heads??

Generally feeling ‘broody’ - not to judge those who do, I just haven’t experienced it myself

fivetriangulartrees · 08/02/2026 22:24

Driving is the big thing for me. I passed my test at 17 (examiner must have been asleep) and then stopped. I can't fathom what it must be like to just hop in my car and go to a place that isn't near a bus stop whenever I feel like it. Some people drive the school run when it rains! Instead of walking! Even though it's walking distance! Buying petrol. Those petrol pumps look too big to get my hands round. Having your own personal storage unit outside on the street. Driving up a motorway and enjoying it rather than expecting to die in a pile-up any moment. Choosing to drive a car across Europe for a million hours when there are trains. Knowing which way to go and getting from A to B without getting lost or driving into a lamppost. All of it!

Being married with kids, watching shows like the Traitors or Strictly and not having a dog.

Mumblechum0 · 08/02/2026 22:57

Enjoying Christmas.
having any interest in sport.
watching reality TV

HeddaGarbled · 08/02/2026 22:57

I’ve never been to a spa or a beautician or a nail bar.

AndresyFiorella · 08/02/2026 22:57

Being able to have chocolate in the house without immediately eating all of it.

Duckiewasthefirstniceguy · 08/02/2026 22:59
  • Money worries/not being able to afford stuff
  • Most housework
  • I can’t swim or drive
  • Find all sports deathly dull
Ughhhhh77 · 08/02/2026 23:02

People stopping eating when they’re full and not thinking about food alllllll day! Just seems crazy to me! I was always a healthy weight until recently and now have a stone to lose but I’ve always been a hungry person 🙈

I have to pay for so many things with online banking these days. How do you manage without?

Got my DD other than that cash or chip pin.

Pub life . I can’t grasp , can’t even grasp how much omen think it’s ok men do it all the time . Like , why would anyone want to spend £5 on a pint daily instead of going home to their family .
I also can’t grasp video game addicts , how can grown men and women have time to play for hours and be online talking with strangers . I always wonder how they have so much free time

AmberDreams · 08/02/2026 23:20

I can’t remember the last time I watched a film. If I’ve seen 4 or 5 in my entire life that’ll be it.

Going on holiday with extended family. That is my idea of hell.

The benefits system. I have no idea how it works and who qualifies for what.

Supporting any other team than Liverpool, even after today

Unicornsandprincesses · 08/02/2026 23:29

Going on a girls trip/hen do/bottomless brunch

watching love island

having a close knit family that spends Christmas together etc

“nesting” when pregnant. Didn’t happen to me either time.

Wonderwoman333 · 08/02/2026 23:35

Driving
Getting promotions
Working full time
Going to spas

Dontlletmedownbruce · 08/02/2026 23:36

Giving a shit about which team wins or loses in a match, neither of which I play for or am personally involved with.

Getting upset or concerned about the weather forecast, especially complaining when its wrong. What will be will be, we'll find out on the day.

Serums or primers or toners, or most types of face product. I cleanse and moisturise, I wear makeup. I don't understand the other stuff.

Hippmantookitfoot · 08/02/2026 23:39

Washing the car. Doing a big shop. Spending evenings or weekends doing ‘life admin’. Spending weekends doing chores.

Thingscouldntgetanyworse · 08/02/2026 23:41

I find the concept of pet owning wild. Why would you want to pay money to look after a living being that can’t talk and the life span will be tiny in comparison to yours? I just don’t get the dog / cat thing I really don’t.

Surely you have hobbies and interests? Which you use your free time to do?
