What aspect of 'normal' life is alien to you?

By which I mean... what are the "normal" things of life you haven't yet done or experienced, compared to most people?

For me it's:

Driving, I'm hopeless, just can't get it
I've never been to a club
Anything to do with babies
In-laws
A properly "senior" job

Being drunk
Smoking/vaping
Reality TV
Package/resort holidays (or just generally deliberately going somewhere full of people, and particularly drunk people)
Being brought up in a loving, close-knit family
Not liking chocolate

Another one - having steady, relaxed, fun relationships with siblings, cousins etc. I love my siblings, we get on fine, but if I asked my sister if she wanted to go and have coffee or something she would look at me as if I had two heads.

Having to meal plan, do a weekly grocery shop, batch cooking, cooking from scratch, using left overs, having a food budget? Nope, have never lived like that. My idea of cooking from scratch is Gousto!

Birthdays.
I've never had a birthday party and grew up in a family where we didn't make a fuss. A few presents and a cake when we were kids and then nobody really bothered beyond the teenage years. Obviously what other people do is their own business but the huge amount of expense and effort that seems to be involved in some birthday celebrations looks stressful rather than enjoyable to me. And don't get me started on people who seem intent on forcing me to celebrate my own birthday when I really can't be bothered. I have a "big" birthday this year and some people seem to take it as a personal insult that I won't be having a party.

Do you have staff to do these things for you?! Or do you not work so can get these things done Mon-Fri? Or does your OH take care of it? Genuinely curious, don't mean to be rude!

ETA: do you not have a car? And do you have enough free time to do smaller shops as and when you need things? Or is it just you or you and OH so your shops always seem small compared to a family of 6 day?

Edited

I work Tuesday - Friday 9 - 5:30 in one job, and Mondays and sometimes weekend mornings in another.

I don’t live with my boyfriend or share any responsibility with him for my house or anything else.

I don’t have kids.

I do have a car.

I live 30 seconds away on foot from a Coop, or two minutes driving from Lidl, Aldi, and Sainsbury’s (and others but don’t tend to go to them). I just nip in and get what I fancy.

If my insurance needs renewing or whatever I quickly compare the rates on my phone and it’s done. I really don’t understand how admin takes up much of anyone’s time.

Not having kids reduces the life admin 10 fold to be honest 😄

Never seen a Bake Off or a Strictly. Nor a Traitors.

Never had a manicure or been to a beauty salon.

Never went near an after-school club/extra-curricular activity; dd tied herself to the bannisters with three dressing-gown cords when I enrolled her in Brownies!

Small talk. I just don’t know how to chat, except with people I know very well.

ThatAgileLimeCat · 15/02/2026 17:50

Snobbery of any kind, or the class system.

I enjoy some "highbrow" activities and some "lowbrow"' ones. Depending on which one I'm talking about and who I'm talking to I can appear posh, common, down to earth, stuck up, eccentric, childish, boring or attract any number of other random judgements.

I like what I like and avoid things I don't like.

Judging others for what they like or don't just does not make any sense to me
