To NOT like the evenings stretching...

I absolutely adore the dark nights and love it when the clocks go back in October, love driving home from work in the dark. Love lying in bed all cozy at 7pm looking up at the big, bright moon. Love being at home in the warm or going for a night walk and looking at everyone's Halloween decorations.

I don't like the lighter evenings! I find it harder to sleep, feel like I should be doing more or that everyone is doing something sociable and interesting. All the twats come out getting drunk in their gardens or blasting their shit music out and motorbikes revving about everywhere.

Fuck the light evenings... leave me in the winter!

I suffer from SAD and I can't wait until the clocks change and the days are longer and (hopefully), brighter.

whattheysay · 08/02/2026 08:42

I don’t mind the darker evenings in the period up to Christmas, come January 1st I am over it I hate it. Noe I am just looking forward to spring for some hopefully warmer weather, more light and less rain. It’s rained so much it’s so cold and dark I’m booking a holiday to the Canaries to get some warmth. Summer can’t come quick enough

Sesma · 08/02/2026 08:43

I use my Hotel Chocolat velvetiser all year round, most days in fact, hot chocolate isn't just for winter

Pinkday · 08/02/2026 08:43

I totally get what your saying
The light evenings brings out people who are inconsiderate
We also have some twat who rides a small motorbike round and round the new estate I live on ..drives me mental
My bedroom overlooks 6 gardens ..the neighbours on the left have a BBQ every night it's not raining and my house stinks of meat constantly..plus we are vegan ..and the neighbours on my right is a head teacher who has inappropriate conversations about the children in her school that I can hear every word of .
Because she's sat outside under my bedroom window on the phone and laptop at all hours .
Then there is the dogs barking.. literally every sodding house I can see has a bloody dog ...and one of them barking is like a chain reaction of the the twilight bark ,from 101 Dalmatians .
Fuck me ,send me back to winter

tisconfusion54321 · 08/02/2026 08:44

I love September to about now. But I’m trying to find positives for the other months as I work in a school and I find living by half terms makes life too fast so retraining my brain to not wish time away!

You are either really stupid or really horrible

Stupid and horrible for stating the facts 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

All these people whinging and bitching and complaining about things they can't change. I despise the winter and I can't do anything about it.So I get on with it. It's coming every year whether I like it or not. I wonder about the mentality of people who start these threads.

Just shut it and go and live in Antarctica for 6 months of the year.

500daysofspring · 08/02/2026 08:48

I love lots of things about all four seasons, although summer is my least favourite as I’m just not built for heat! I really enjoy winter but then the first bright, sunny day of February comes, and the snowdrops are blooming, and I realise how ready I am for spring.

Wiltedgeranium · 08/02/2026 08:50

I hate the dark. I leave for work at 7 and get back about 6. Idon't see much daylight in work. So that's months just living in the dark. Then if I go for a run, its in the dark. Can't go and do stuff in the garden. Because it's dark. And weekends have been rainy for the last 100 years, so not much time outside then either.

My prediction is for a slightly shit summer this year, because winter hasn't been winter enough.

Technically I agree with you but SAD is a literally thing that affects people's brains and light and its relationship to mood is very well researched so I think it's ok if people dont like living in constant darkness and its ok for them to express that. Humans need light for healthy circadian rhythms.

But having said all this ..
Since loosing 10 stone I do like the summer a lot more ..I love being able to just wear underwear and a dress and float about all cool and comfortable.
I'm not hot and sweaty any more which is fab .
But I love Christmas and snow ..not that we ever get snow where I live

MrsVBS · 08/02/2026 09:04

At last someone who likes dark nights! Everyone thinks I’m mad but I crave September when things start to turn to autumn, I hate spring and summer and light nights! Give me all the candles and blankets and dark at 3.30!

PistachioTiramisu · 08/02/2026 09:07

Absolutely HATE the darkness! I love the light mornings in summer with birds singing and that glorious smell of summer on the air. The utter drabness of this winter has been hard to cope with - and will it ever stop raining??

I imagine you like summer then, if you despise winter?

You can't change that it ends but I bet a bit of you misses summer when it's winter.

It's allowed. You're allowed. Relax about other people also being allowed.

DappledThings · 08/02/2026 09:11

I don't like it light in the evenings past about 7 or 8 just because that's when evening starts for me and it feels off for evening to be light. It's almost entirely just a feeling of oddness I don't like. Sitting down at 8.30 when the curtains are still open because it's light makes it feel like it's not the right time of day and that's disconcerting.

But I also hate gloomy light. I own no lamps or candles and only ever have the big light. If I am doing any crochet I have an additional bendy light that goes round my neck and the big light too.

Natsku · 08/02/2026 09:11

I love the days getting lighter and longer, its depressing not seeing daylight all day because I'm at work before the sunrises and leave after it sets (during the darkest period of winter, in December). I don't mind the rest of winter when its a bit lighter and at least I'm driving home in daylight, so long as there's snow to reflect what light there is to make it feel brighter.

I'm in Finland so the days are very short in winter and very long in summer, but late spring is about perfect but I don't mind it being light very late in the summer (its especially nice if I go out to a bar and I can walk home in daylight despite it being midnight).

If I were to pick perfect times, sunrise would be 5am so I can watch the sunrise on my way to work, and sunset would be around 10:30pm so at weekends I can enjoy the evenings even if during the week I'm in bed by 9!

BeetyAxe · 08/02/2026 09:11

I have found my people. Always hated the lighter nights. Noisy evenings and mornings, lawn movers going off, feeling obliged to get outside, light creeping in round the side of the curtains, the associated rise in pollen. I get excited for winter and the peace it brings.

socks1107 · 08/02/2026 09:13

Most years I preferred the winter but I was sad this year when summer ended and the rain and gloom the last few weeks is starting to really drag
me down! Ive loaded out March holiday into my weather app and check it daily reminding myself summer is only 6 weeks away for me!
I think above got older I like both extremes summer and winter it’s messy spring I hate!

Not everyone on this thread is #teamwinter …

usedtobeaylis · 08/02/2026 09:22

I'm with you OP, I prefer the winter and the dark nights, it feels better to me. The summer is a sensory nightmare with light and heat.

My daughter is a big light person and I never thought anything about it until this battle with her. I didn't know big light people existed!

I take it I can't expect 27-hour days in my lifetime? I'm disappointed.

I think it's like a gazillion* years from now so sadly unlikely 🙃

mydogisthebest · 08/02/2026 09:29

I don't mind the cold but I absolutely hate and detest the dark morning and evenings.

I think I could live with it never being dark. Had a month long holiday in Sweden in the summer and loved that it never got dark.

Lamps are prissy and fussy and don't actually light up a room with any degree of effectiveness. Hate them!
