What is your most hated household task?

For me it's hoovering. Or vacuuming, whatever you call it.

I'd rather clean the toilet or wash the floor on my hands and knees than hoover. Bloody hate it.

I hate all housework, but cleaning bathrooms is the worst. I hate it so much it can actually make me cry real tears (of self pity).

MidnightMeltdown · 06/02/2026 23:10

Oh, and having to wash cat dishes and food cans 🤢

unsync · 06/02/2026 23:23

Washing up - it either survives the dishwasher or it doesn't. Bins come next, why is it always raining on bin day?

Picking up other peoples dirty laundry off the floor and putting it in the laundry basket 1 foot away.

Pick it up off the floor and put it on their bed, with a note to say nothing gets washed until they can put it in the laundry basket like a normal person.

HoobleDooble · 06/02/2026 23:51

Cleaning the oven or getting the hair out of the shower trap.

mismomary · 07/02/2026 00:01

Changing the beds. Awful.

Whatnameisif · 07/02/2026 00:35

It used to be hoovering but after I swapped the useless Dyson for my amazing Miele which actually sucks stuff up, I hate it much less. Still don't enjoy it mind.

Least favourite is possibly cleaning the toilet - it's a new one with feeble flush and we have extremely hard water so it's like everything absolutely welds itself on. Sandpaper is the only thing that seems to get it clean. Or emptying the food waste caddy into the outside bin and then cleaning it. Gross.

Hand washing dishes. I hate it SO much. Thank goodness for the dishwasher, but there is always stuff that can't go in.

I’m the opposite! I hate loading and un-loading the dishwasher but I find washing up by hand so satisfying and relaxing.
I’m sure my willingness to wash up is the only reason my dishwasher-less parents and PILs invite me to family dinners…

isitmytime · 07/02/2026 00:44

Washing dishes
putting away the dried washing
anything bathroom related

I do like hoovering, dusting, putting a washing on, changing the bed and I bloody love a good declutter session and getting rid of stuff I’ve accumulated but don’t need.

Bertiebiscuit · 07/02/2026 00:46

All of it. If I was rich i swear i would live in a hotel and never cook, wash up, hoover, dust or do laundry again. I never iron anything, often eat off paper plates using disposable cardboard forks and spoons, instant noodles from a pot (the Itsu ones are tasty and quite healthy). Good job i live alone tbh

Changing the beds. Awful.

Same changing the bed is my most hated task.

I pop the clean bedding on the end of the bed and OH changes it and washes the bed linen.

boobaaaa · 07/02/2026 01:46

All of it. I just can’t be arsed.

PithyViewer · 07/02/2026 02:01

Tidying, I think. You don't get the satisfying cleanliness or nice smells that you do from cleaning or laundry. It's boring and takes ages, putting everything back.

PithyViewer · 07/02/2026 02:02

mismomary · 07/02/2026 00:01

Changing the beds. Awful.

Oh yes, that's a PITA.

HorribleHisTories15 · 07/02/2026 02:03

Emptying the bins: bathrooms, bedrooms, kitchen.

Friendlygingercat · 07/02/2026 02:05

Putting the bloody shopping away after Tesco has delivered it.

Putting the bloody bins out and dragging them back in.

Thesejobs require no skill and are a waste of my intelligence.

Sheknowsaboutme · 07/02/2026 07:41

I love cleaning and will happily take a day off from work to clean when everyone is out.

but chopping onions is not what i do. Never. I always buy frozen and ready chopped.

Notellinganyone · 07/02/2026 19:19

Changing a king size duvet cover gives me existential despair every time.

HattieJ2 · 07/02/2026 19:20

Duvet change

petrol in car

LindorDoubleChoc · 07/02/2026 19:20

Thinking of what to have for dinner.

daffodilandtulip · 07/02/2026 19:34

Cooking tea. Every damn night for the rest of your life. Getting on for 30 years so I've made around 10,000 and I still never know what to make.

My top tip for any young woman is ‘marry a man who loves cooking (and food shopping)’.

So many of my female friends say they hate cooking and thinking about what to cook ad nauseam. I have zero interest in it, my husband bloody loves it. I think I last cooked something over a year ago.

Oh I might hate cooking but I’d still rather remain single than marry one, even if he cooked every day!

@TheeNotoriousPIG Love your username . I used a round extension lead and plug the hoover in . It is really long so you can continue to hoover up the stairs .

Thank you! My username is in homage to a famous pig that I once knew. She had starred on TV before I met her.

I have had the fear of God put into me (from work) about extension leads and how they can set on fire if you use them when they're still coiled up... and judging by the work ones, I do not have the patience to wind them all the way up again afterwards! 😁Thank goodness that I have robot vacuum cleaners upstairs and down. Now I just need one that can climb the staircase!
