What is your most hated household task?

For me it's hoovering. Or vacuuming, whatever you call it.

I'd rather clean the toilet or wash the floor on my hands and knees than hoover. Bloody hate it.

All of them (except laundry). Sadly I live alone so it's all my responsibility. This is why I have a cleaner, so that once a fortnight some of it is someone else's responsibility.

Emptying & washing the food waste bin!

Get a robot vacuum. “Lenny” has just vacuumed and mopped my kitchen for me 🤣

PearlTeapot · 06/02/2026 20:09

Putting laundry away, it's just so repetitive and it's like you know your future self will thank you and you know you don't want to live out of the laundry basket... but you still have to do it. Every day. BORING!

I also HATE putting food shopping away. I don't know why I despise this task as much as I do but I really can't bear doing it. But the food shop is my job so alas this task falls on me once or twice a week. KILL ME!

FloofyKat · 06/02/2026 20:10

Changing the bed! I hate battling with the duvet cover, in particular.

elliejjtiny · 06/02/2026 20:10

Laundry, especially in winter when everything takes forever to dry.

Sadza · 06/02/2026 20:22

Get an eufy. I hate cleaning bathrooms but I love ironing.

Slightyamusedandsilly · 06/02/2026 20:24

I don't actually mind washing up. Don't want a dish washer. I don't mind dusting although I only ever wet dust. Can't see the point of dry dusting. And I only do it when I can see the dust and I'm already doing general cleaning.

I don't even hate changing the bed although I'm lazy about it.

In a perfect world, we could swap tasks. I'll do your dishes and clean your toilets (maybe on different days) if you'll hoover once a week for me?

I've got a Harry Hoover (Henry's brother) and it has a massive cord. I live in a 3 bed semi. I plugged it into the dining room/central and I could do every single room upstairs and down. Stupid me didn't even attempt this until today. I'm amazed. Dishwasher, nah, been there and fecking hell, the effort of loading everything correctly, well, you can wash up in that time and be done.
Ironing, I've become much more relaxed. Things that must be ironed, well I put on a TV program or turn up the radio and time passes really quick.

Hotafternoon · 06/02/2026 20:47

Changing the bedding, especially the quilt cover. I have arthritis in my thumbs and no strength in my hands, it is so painful trying to make the bed. i dread it every time.

Steroid injection in a month and I can't wait.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 06/02/2026 20:49

Every single one.

Middlemarch123 · 06/02/2026 20:55

The three cat litter trays. Can’t bear leaving used litter in the tray. Constantly cleaning out the trays. At least one of the little lovelies waits until the trays are clean and replenished before leaving me a thank you deposit 😂They all go outside when they want, but come in especially to use their facilities!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 06/02/2026 20:58

Emptying the kitchen bin and food waste caddy. Fortunately they are DP’s “jobs” but he travels a lot with work so I can’t always escape.

This one is so stupid, but I also hate cleaning and filling the cat’s water dishes. Our last cat only ever drank from filthy puddles or the top of the wheelie bin, and it seemed like such a silly pantomime doing them every day for her to ignore them. We sadly had to have her pts in 2024 and we now have a little boy cat who is a good drinker, but it’s still somehow ingrained in my mind as a pointless task.

DiscoBeat · 06/02/2026 20:59

I do like hoovering (just as well as I have to do it twice a day due to a shedding dog!). Not keen on ironing but DH does that. Cleaning the bathroom is my least favourite, we have 4 and it takes so long every week!
Laundry I like but don't like pairing up socks. My little odd sock basket has to be overflowing before I'll sort it out!

JuliettaCaeser · 06/02/2026 20:59

Deciding what to cook and food shopping. Hate both.

wishfulthinking25 · 06/02/2026 20:59

Putting the clothes away

fruitypancake · 06/02/2026 21:00

Emptying the dishwasher, it’s relentless 😂

Mondal · 06/02/2026 21:01

Bathroom, folding and putting away washing, mopping

Gingercatlover · 06/02/2026 21:01

Dusting and bathrooms.
Love hoovering, have mine out at least twice a day.

Sidebeforeself · 06/02/2026 21:01

Ironing. And please nobody come on here and say just buy clothes that dont need ironing… cos they dont exist in sufficient variety .My friend says she doesn’t iron and I think “ I know. Your clothes look all creased!”

Soonenough · 06/02/2026 21:02

Anything to do with food. Buying it , putting it away ,cooking it , cleaning up after it . Hate it .

DappledThings · 06/02/2026 21:03

Cooking and everything related to it like planning and choosing meals. I would choose washing-up over cooking every single time.

Beesandhoney123 · 06/02/2026 21:04

I like ironing. I don't like cleaning bathroom floors. I sometimes think I'd happily take ironing in during the evenings:)

Soonenough · 06/02/2026 21:05

@TheeNotoriousPIG Love your username . I used a round extension lead and plug the hoover in . It is really long so you can continue to hoover up the stairs .

SpikeGilesSandwich · 06/02/2026 21:08

Scrubbing kitchen and bathroom, really hurts my hands, and the shower screen/ oven/ bath/ hob/ whatever looks dirty again 5 minutes later. Angry
