What is your most hated household task?

For me it's hoovering. Or vacuuming, whatever you call it.

I'd rather clean the toilet or wash the floor on my hands and knees than hoover. Bloody hate it.

I Hoover every morning before I leave the house at 7.15! I hate ironing….

YourWinter · 06/02/2026 21:10

Changing the bed. Hate it. But I hate all housework, except washing up.

ASometimeThing · 06/02/2026 21:11

All of them. I’m spectacularly lazy.

We have a cleaner but she doesn’t change the beds, so changing our bed (when my husband is away, as he usually does it) is something I loathe.

justtheotheronemrswembley · 06/02/2026 21:11

Whe it's my turn to wash up and I go into the kitchen to find all the plates and everything have been dumped in a bowl of cold scummy water.

Cleaning windows.

AccidentalPrawnYouFool · 06/02/2026 21:13

Packed lunches, emptying the dishwasher, laundry. Feels fucking never ending!

Nicecatneighbour · 06/02/2026 21:13

Vacuuming the stairs. Don't mind doing the floors, but the stairs, nope. Hoping to move to a bungalow. Or a barn conversion.

AccidentalPrawnYouFool · 06/02/2026 21:14

Re hoovering - get a robot vacuum if your home is suitable. Game changer.

mondaytosunday · 06/02/2026 21:18

I find changing the sheets a royal pain. The duvet cover was always DH’s job! I now use a coverless one (I’m a widow), but also hate fighting the fitted sheet so tend to buy the next size up.

FlyingApple · 06/02/2026 21:22

Putting stuff away.

Hoovering, mopping, wiping, all that is fine but I hate having to clear up first.

Queenage · 06/02/2026 21:24

Cleaning the inside of the windows. They never look clean and always smear. 40 years I’ve been cleaning the windows and 40 years I’ve failed to stop them looking like the dog’s licked the glass.

Can you wash a double or a king in a regular washing machine? I also hate it and leave it to DH but we have single coverless duvets for DD. I'm now thinking maybe for our bed too...

I use the Tody app to motivate me a bit and my most hated tasks are a) persuading DD to tidy her room and b) persuading her to tidy the spare room/office where she watches YouTube does her homework and c) tidying up the dining and living room where everyone just dumps stuff but you can't hoover till they are tidy.

Nopenousername · 06/02/2026 21:25

Emptying the dishwasher!

OMGitsnotgood · 06/02/2026 21:25

Cleaning the oven

Lovelivingbythebeach3 · 06/02/2026 21:29

Cleaning the shower trap!!!

nowizewords · 06/02/2026 21:29

Washing up!

Grumpynan · 06/02/2026 21:30

Cleaning the bathroom, I mean it’s not a nice job is it and you can put money on that next time you go in there somebody has been first, I never seemed to get to use a nice shiny bathroom.

cleaning windows - hate it and I they always look smeared.

the most forgotten job - sweeping the front door porch, it seems to be always messy with leaves etc, I only think of it when I go in or out .

CoodleMoodle · 06/02/2026 21:32

Another vote for putting things away. In general, but also specific things like the shopping. The worst is putting the washing away though, especially hanging things on hangers in wardrobes. Don't mind the actual washing, drying and folding... If I lived by myself I'd leave all my (clean) clothes in washing baskets and never put them away!

ToothSmush · 06/02/2026 21:35

Love hoovering
Love washing up
Hate all aspects of doing the washing.... I think because it takes hours to see through to completion.

TooBusyGazingAtStarss · 06/02/2026 21:38

Pairing socks.

Deciding what to cook and food shopping. Hate both.

Me too I absolutely loath this. Every week its " what will everybody eat that is healthy, not UPF, quick to cook" ... then going to buy it... ughhhhhh I hate it! I dont mind cooking though.

Seaforme · 06/02/2026 21:40

I cleaned the blinds on one of the dining room windows today - detest doing that which is why I only did one - only two more sets to do! Maybe it will get done in the next month.

Next is window cleaning, we have those stupid little wooden things that make it look like lots of panes of glass. So fiddley and can never get them looking gleaming.

I love doing the washing and putting it away and ironing thank goodness because it’s never ending.

Funnywonder · 06/02/2026 21:40

FloofyKat · 06/02/2026 20:10

Changing the bed! I hate battling with the duvet cover, in particular.

This is what I was going to say! DP pretends he can’t do it by basically ending up wearing the duvet cover like a shroud after 10 minutes of huffing and puffing and effing and blinding. Ah well, at least he’s obsessed with vacuuming.

GCSEBiostruggles · 06/02/2026 21:43

Folding all of the laundry and putting it into the right drawers. If I leave it for a few days it feels like it takes a week to do. Also dusting; lots of things on shelves.

JaneIves · 06/02/2026 21:44

Anything laundry related - sorting clothes for a wash, emptying the machine, hanging it up, folding it away and ironing. I detest ironing.

But I love a good hoover/mop, put some tunes on and off I go!

TheNameWasOnceChosen · 06/02/2026 21:46

Hey, one thing to be glad about being disabled!!
I'm single, so I'm responsible for everything. I have a gardener, cleaner and a window washer. Most I do is feed the cats and put stuff in the dishwasher (I don't cook. Cereal, soup or microwave meals).
