I walked around Winchester yesterday. Managed to do it in between rain showers but the river was literally at the top of the edge and just going over at 1 point but only to the point it formed a puddle on the grassy bit! I would imagine it’s one deluge away from coping!

Met are forecasting at least another week of wet weather!

Mandelson seems to be off the front pages this morning - for the time being

Efacsen · 08/02/2026 09:05

Back on the front page already!

Good, if that’s true @Spandauer. He’s to blame for the aping of Reform.

Meanwhile, the new leader of Reform in Wales has bought a house in Bath, it’s rumoured. Candidates in the Senedd elections must reside in Wales. Maybe he’ll move in with his Mam and Dad for the duration of the election.

I was reading about that too. He keeps saying he has moved back to Wales to raise his children in the valleys. It all seems very dubious as locals don't seem to have spotted him in the wild yet.

Reform hasn't yet announced any candidates at all for the Senedd so it is not even clear which seat Thomas would stand in.

Isn’t Bath some distance from the Welsh valleys? I thought it was in an entirely different country.

It is but we're not talking about our brightest and best, here.

This is a good article, but very sad.

Perhaps it has relocated to the valleys of South Wales?

I shared this link yesterday

So he does own a house in Bath but it is rented out? Hopefully he will be required to prove that.

Lalgarh · 08/02/2026 10:38

Ayesha Hazarika on sky saying the party is FEWMIN at the revelations about Starmer and picking Mandelson when there were perfectly good female options.

Hang on, I distinctly remember her actively lauding his appointment as a riposte to the clamour at the time that was urging picking Farage. I remember because she was inexplicably referring to Mandelson as an "alpha male" who would get on with the Trump LADS

McSweeney has resigned

And he takes full responsibility in his resignation letter.
Just maybe Labour are starting to learn that comms matter.

ThatbloodyRoblox · 08/02/2026 14:36

Just checking into the new thread to mention McSweeney but I see Duncin beat me to it.

Good riddance. Wouldn't be surprised if he went to comms for Reform. Weasel.

Didn't he say he wanted to take the left out of labour or something? I have lots of friends/family who vote right and support right wing policies. It's not a bad thing not to be left wing. But it's incredible fuckery to decide to cure the main left wing party in the UK of it's left was. Just join another party? And there's nothing wrong with being centrist labour, but equally more left wing positions belong too.

I agree about a move to Reform. But if he liked reform policies he should have started out there.

SerendipityJane · 08/02/2026 15:43

McSweeny: Am I then not popular?

All of this thread: Erm, well, put it this way: when people slip in what dogs have left in the street, they do tend to say “Whoops, I’ve trod on an Morgan.”

Obviously not good at bringing the left, right and centre of the party together. Ridiculous when Labour is notoriously good at infighting.
