What automatically makes you think people are idiots?

For me it’s:

people who think that Michael Jackson isn’t a pedophile.

people who say things like “Londanistan” “Bradfordistan”

People who say “If the Holocaust is real, why do the tattoo numbers only go up to 5 digits”

OP posts:
Shufflebumnessie · 05/02/2026 17:57

People who put their car into reverse as pedestrians are walking behind the car. Why can they not wait an extra 2 seconds until the person is clear of the car?

DiscoPants2000 · 05/02/2026 17:59

Reform voters
Those who adore Trump, no matter what he does
People who don’t pick up their dogs shit
People without kids who park in the parent and child spots
Drivers that don’t stop to let people cross at the zebra crossing

There’s plenty more, but I’ll just leave it at that!

Anyone who pronounces ‘Th’ as ‘F’

Oh that's not fair. My DH literally cannot pronounce "TH". He can't help it and it really annoys him.

But mine is anyone who does not know how to use a reflexive pronoun correctly.

SapphireSeptember · 05/02/2026 18:00

People who think the Nazis were Socialists. (They weren't.) Said that to someone on Facebook who said they were, and got told to read a history book. 🙄
One of my exes was a flat earther and believed some ridiculous theories (among other things.) I'm glad I wasn't with him for long. He was lovely and a good shag but he would have driven me bananas, (he wasn't very bright, sad to say.).

honeylulu · 05/02/2026 18:02

People who get pets and then rehome them because they hadnt thought the commitment through.

People who get their children christened but never set foot in a church otherwise (or are vocally atheist WTF).

People who think "woke" and "feminist" are insults.

People who race to get their kids to the next thing up for social media pics even if it's not good for them. For example FF car seat at the earliest opportunity "all grown up in his big boy seat" when the RF one would have been much safer for a couple more years. Also wedging baby/toddler feet into rigid mini branded trainers, soooo bad for growing bones but hey who cares if it looks good on Instagram?

People who argue to get the service charge removed from the bill even when service has been good.

Topseyt123 · 05/02/2026 18:05

Brexshit voters. Reform voters. Usually the same people.

Trump supporters.

People who butcher the English language with poor to non-existent spelling and grammar.

Conspiracy theorists.
Antivaxers.

CremeBruhlee · 05/02/2026 18:06

People who when you say you are going to London say ‘are you going to see a show’ 😂

SapphireSeptember · 05/02/2026 18:07

@honeylulu Atheists are getting their kids christened? 😱 Yup, that's bat shit. Why? (My church doesn't do baptisms until children are older, but DS had a baby blessing. 😊)

ThatNaiceMember · 05/02/2026 18:08

Definitely to people who are the issues on social media openly. It's one thing to be anonymous on a forum but to air all your issues about. For example your children's dad when your children can read it. It's just awful and stupid.

viques · 05/02/2026 18:09

BlushingBrightly · 05/02/2026 16:19

This plus
Anyone who uses the word 'sheeple'

And Hubbie, hollibobs, nom nom nom, crimbo!

SapphireSeptember · 05/02/2026 18:09

CremeBruhlee · 05/02/2026 18:06

I can beat you, I've been asked if I'm scared to go to London when I've told people I'm going to gigs.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 05/02/2026 18:11

Many of the things already said plus:

People who say "don't be boring" just because you don't want to get pissed or because you've had enough and are ready to go home.

People (mainly men, let's face it) who call older women a "Karen" because they have the balls to stand up for themselves or someone else.

MIddle lane hoggers on motorways, meaning that normal flow is slowed down and people have to swap lanes more around them.

People who stand at the top or bottom of an escalator in everyone's way, trying to figure out what direction they need to head off in. Just bloody MOVE, will you, and then figure it out from over there!

People who could, but who choose not to, educate themselves about things like pensions, and then express shock when they're approaching retirement that they're hardly going to have enough to live on.

People who jump from one bad relationship to the next, and they have children, and they then wonder why the children are badly behaved or have mental health issues.

Usually so they can get into the best or nearest primary school.

dizzydizzydizzy · 05/02/2026 18:13

People who STILL talk about the the MMR causing autism. That research was found to be fraudulent about 20 years ago. Or other anti-vax talk - such as one I heard recently from someone who is convinced that all doctors know that vaccines are harmful but they have all decided as a group they are going to keep it a secret from the rest of us.

People who argue that climate change isn't happening.

Conspiracy theorists in general - yes, the Americans did land on the moon. We have mooneocks. Loads of them and they are not the same as anything on earth. If it's a hoax, how did so many 1000s of people working on the project manage to keep the secret for so long? Somebody would have slipped up by now.

People who don't understand that it is a load of rich greedy powerful men making us poor, not immigrants. And Brexit - it also making us poorer by adding loads of extra bureaucracy. And actually it is also making it harder to control immigration because we no longer have access to various EU data sources, such as intelligence on criminals.

People who believe in pseudoscience - especially regarding human health. I know somebody who thinks that writing an 8 in the air with your finger behind someone's back will cure them of something- can't remember what.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 05/02/2026 18:13

Oh, I know! People who use a "x" or "xx" at the end of every sentence in a text or whatsapp.

FiftyShadesOfPurple · 05/02/2026 18:13

People who can't accept that others have different experiences and frames of reference - who assume everyone has read the same books, watched the same films and TV, been to the same places as they have.

sashh · 05/02/2026 18:13

People, particularly women, who don't believe anything a woman says unless a man says it.

I once had a disagreement with my mother, they were staying on a farm on holiday. The farmer had a stent fitted (early 90s not so common). My mother explained it to me, I corrected her, she said, "he knows because he has had it done".

At the time I spent half my week in cath labs as part of a team inserting tents.

havingamarvelloustimeruiningeverything · 05/02/2026 18:15

Smokers and vapers.
reform supporters.

Dollymylove · 05/02/2026 18:17

Billie Eilish 🤣🤣🤣

Mingspingpongball · 05/02/2026 18:17

Idiots - the OP specifically asks for- rather than things that irritate…

I don’t think I’ve personally met anyone I would call an “idiot” (driven around/behind some though) and I don’t mind being the first poster to mention that someone lacking sufficient intelligence to function appropriately to the society we live in is more likely a slight poke at intellectually disabled people and I really hope it isn’t that.

Surely the OP using “idiot” couldn’t actually include things like people who use “draws” instead of drawers or “could of” instead of “could’ve” and people who speed (presumably here it’s intended to mean people who break speed limits) or someone who uses a parent/child space who doesn’t have a child (clearly a selfish and inconsiderate person but hardly an “idiot”) ..?

Now, I’d think an idiot is someone who is wilfully ignorant in the fashion of the OP’s post..
And to that end much and all as I really hate poor SPAG I wouldn’t call someone who copies things they read online as “idiotic”.
It is laziness and probably lack of education- though not always: I was infuriated and sometimes amused by a highly respected defence law firm using the term “I will revert to you” repeatedly (you never WERE me do you can’t “revert” to me!!)

I think people lacking foresight on matters like Reform and the facts “out there” about Farage, Trump and the likes are dangerously blinkered. But there’s something about the in- built human need to hate (it certainly seems like this) that says (to me) these are angry people, stupid about a lot of things and, in my view, idiotic. You don’t need to have any political affiliations to see what those characters are really doing and what will happen if you vote on the policies they present (let alone the ones they’ve yet to cook up).

…and calls those who haven’t ‘weird’ or ‘attention seeking’.

canuckup · 05/02/2026 18:21

Oooohhh one of my specialist subjects 😂

Anti vaxxers

People who are religious

Vegan, but occasionally eat McDonald's

People who spend fortunes on expensive cars, eating out etc but then claim to have no money

Hereforthecommentz · 05/02/2026 18:22

People throwing the word 'anti vax' around. Most of them mean people that didn't get the covid jab.
Vegans that lecture.
People using the word racist and then not being able to come up with any examples or evidence of them actually being racist.
Celebs that virtue signal.
Mumsnetters that obsess over SPAG. It's a forum not an English exam paper.
Trans activists
People that say 'I believe in science'.
Pro Palestinian supporters.

Outspoken atheists that still partake in Christian holidays.
Labour supporters that complain about reform but are too stupid to realise they are the reason reform exist.

But mine is anyone who does not know how to use a reflexive pronoun correctly.

I have minor issues like this with pronunciation of words.
I have some words I just cant pronounce at all such as entrepreneur. I believe it's because I was brought up by a south American woman with a very thick accent .

Jaq27 · 05/02/2026 18:22

People who walk along the street with their eyes glued to the phone in their hand, missing out on the trees, the flowers, their toddler, their dog, human life etc
Sad idiots.
People who stop at the top
of escalators or in front of ticket barriers.
Bloody idiots.
People who use the ‘basket-only’ check out for a trolley load of shopping they have managed to jenga into a basket that’s balanced on their wheeled shopper.
Annoying idiots
