What automatically makes you think people are idiots?

For me it’s:

people who think that Michael Jackson isn’t a pedophile.

people who say things like “Londanistan” “Bradfordistan”

People who say “If the Holocaust is real, why do the tattoo numbers only go up to 5 digits”

OP posts:

Goodwin says people shouldn't be censored for what they say on social media, even hate speech. He then censors people on social media.

That's not what censoring is.

Drummers. Fuck me that's a waste of a life. Hitting things counting 1-2-3-4 repeatedly for hours, every day, for years.

Really @BassinBas ? I’ve been watching Sina Drums on YouTube and it looks pretty skilled to me.

Oh yes, same here. Also the ones where you email asking a question of two (or more) options and you ask them to confirm whether the answer is (A) or (B) and they just reply "yes" Duh!!!! How hard is it to actually read an email?? Comprehension skills are clearly no longer being taught in schools.

Very hard for some people, apparently. See also reading OPs.

People who start their Mumsnet posts with "I've done my own research and..."

So everybody who starts that way is automatically stupid - even before you ask/find out what kind of research they've done, or indeed what their topic is?

That reminds me of people who used to automatically mock others with "Ooh, is that something that you read on the internet?!" - as though there's no credible, reputable or true information available on any subject whatsoever - either on the world's combined online knowledge base or indeed anywhere else.

On any device it underlines a word which isn't spelt correctly. My spelling isn't amazing (I have aphantasia), but I just go back and change something if it's flagged.

One big problem is when your typo happens to be an actual word - albeit totally the wrong one for what you wanted to say.

LeafyMcLeafFace · 06/02/2026 22:42

TRAs and transphobes - essentially people who are so fixed on their own end of the spectrum perspective that they can’t enter into a critical and balanced conversation.

Donald Trump fans.

Anti-vaxxers

Flat earthers

Racists

People who don’t understand that regional accents are only an indicator of where you live and not your intelligence or worth on a financial level or as a human level.

People who don’t understand that a preference of film / hobby / decor / clothing doesn’t make them superior or inferior to anyone else.

Jumpers4goalposts · 06/02/2026 22:50

People who are even considering voting reform.

Just to double check on this one, would you include an elderly woman that got upset because there was a biological man in her single sex hospital ward? Is she a transphobe and therefore stupid? I’m bravely asking because you said you could have a balanced and critical conversation about it.

There has been a real push recently about his music - I hear it a lot more on the radio. I get that it’s good and it’s entwined with people’s memories.

I had a conversation with a British man who was black and he explained how important MJ was to him and that he wouldn’t stop listening to his music. I then asked him if he would let his son sleepovers with MJ and he couldn’t answer.

I’m not supporting what MJ did, but do we have any proof of it? I wasn’t sure of that.

Also, on the point of liking MJ’s music but not supporting his behaviour, this reminds me of the very frequent thing of people admiring someone’s work but not condoning their actions (e.g. Roman Polanski, Woody Allen and many others).

l think it’s possible to admire someone’s work and, at the same time, criticise and call out their behaviour. I know many will disagree, but that is my current view.

Thedevilhasfinallycaughtupwithhim · 06/02/2026 23:05

Epstein Island was another crazy conspiracy theory that turned out to be devastatingly accurate.

OneWittyGuide · 06/02/2026 23:08

This is a strange post! Very subtly political.

  1. Talking about MJ who was a controversial figure (supposedly a pedo, who supported Palestine).
  2. Mentioning something apparently in support of Muslims and against racism
  3. Mentioning the holocaust…which one? There are many…current ones are Sudan, Congo and the one that we can’t say on social media because it’s being censored!

Given everything that’s coming out in the Epstein Files…which admittedly I haven’t read because I couldn’t bear it…how many times are Muslims or Michael Jackson mentioned versus…white men of other religions that’s aren’t Muslim?

Who are you and what’s the point of this post?

CantstopsayingFFS · 06/02/2026 23:08

People that believe everything they read.
Probably most of the people on this thread.

Especially now he's dead, he won't benefit from any royalties. And his kids are messed up enough, I don't begrudge them earning off their dad's music.

He was aquitted so not proven beyond reasonable doubt, but there were so many accounts that it seems vanishingly unlikely there isn't some truth to it.

The Holocaust was a one-off unique event. There are not ‘many Holocausts’. There have been many conflicts throughout this decade and century and history, yes, but not ‘many Holocausts’. The current conflicts in Sudan, Congo, Ukraine, Israel and Gaza are conflicts - not Holocausts.

The reason why it’s described as a specific event is because it was unique in the number of victims it caused and the fact they were murdered on an industrial scale.

Whilst I hope you have good intentions, I really do want to point this out, because what you said will be upsetting and offensive to many people.

OneLimeDuck · 06/02/2026 23:31

Men who regard looking after their children as babysitting.

Men married to a SAHM who won't get up during the night to see to the children as 'they have to get up for work in the morning' as if looking after a house and children isn't work.

Men who think taking the kids to the park at the weekend makes them a great dad.

Men who ..... okay you get the picture 😀

Yes I know I am a man but even I can get annoyed at some male attitudes.

Bradistan has been around since the 70s. I agree it’s stupid but it isn’t recent.

Holocaust deniers are next level stupid. Ditto flat earthers, David Icke fans, people who think star signs actually mean anything.

OMG flat earthers!!!
my wife and I actually met a flat earther who was arguing with my very assertive wife. The FE said “but how do you know the earth isn’t flat, they just tell you the earth is round and you believe them”
to which my wife replied “ no I’ve flown on Concorde and I’ve seen the curvature of the earth”. A conversation ender.
